This is exactly what I need to be doing. The perfectionist in me always wants to go into way to much detail. Luckily I have Neocolours & woody's. I'm definitely trying this. Thanks for uploading!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It takes a few tries, but stay with it. I have the same problem with perfectionism to the point that it takes the fun out of it sometimes. I hope you have fun with it! It has helped me a lot! 😊👍
When you were doing the beach scene I was screaming "OMG get the peach for the sand! You're gonna run out of time! Peach!!!" You grabbed the peach. I let out the breath I was holding. 😅
Loved it. Respectful suggestion for the next one. Is it too much trouble to leave the reference image on screen while you are tweaking the pictures and talking about each one in detail at the end? It would be so helpful. ❤ For me there were all difficult 😅 cause I dont do landscapes, but among all, the seascape was the easiest and the most difficult was the one with the fence. Overall a really good practice. Thank you ❤
You’re welcome! And no, it’s not too much to ask. I will make sure I leave the references up next time. That’s a good idea. Thank you! I agree, the fence was a lot harder than I expected too. 😊👍
These are so fun and great practice. I just happened upon video with only a pencil and sketchbook close by. But I really struggled with the fenceposts! I always have trouble with them. Any chance we could focus on fenceposts and like rails on bridges and things. You did great with the fenceposts. I loved the house one. I'm so loving your videos!
Welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’ll keep that in mind when I’m finding references next time. Fencing and bridges would be great practice. Maybe some light posts too. Thanks for the feedback! 😊👍
I had been wanting the Neocolors for a while and your last video like this put me over the edge!! I got em! I love these timed challenges. I'm anxiously rooting you on! Great idea to do landscapes! I like all of them but faves are tree, cacti, and bright colored marsh/river. Looking forward to more.
Good selections. I like the variety. My favorites that I drew were the house with flower field, and the beach scene. Those were the easiest for me. The most difficult was the trees on the path. My faves of yours were the cactus scene and the river scene.
Thank you so much for your feedback! The house and flower scene really surprised me too. I think the amount of flowers makes it seem more challenging at first glance. Thanks for watching and sketching with me! 😊👍
Having so much fun, watching these videos. Love how you always make it work in the end. Thank you 🙏 I’m a teacher and was gifted a set neocolors by a student. I’m gonna give it a go myself! I loved the cactus most, by the way.
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! I hope you give it a try! The Neocolors are so much fun! Thanks for watching and sharing your favorite! 😊👍
That was fun. I had my Koh-I-noors 12 packat hand, I would say the beach was the easiest and cacti the hardest. I did get the flowers though, always started from the -------------------------------------- line. It helps if you keep the 'artist's grip' of the pencil or crayon or which ever supply you might have Also I never do lanscapes so thank you for making me do landscapes
That’s great! I’m glad you had fun! It’s nice to be prompted to draw something that you normally wouldn’t. I thought about doing portraits next, because I never do them. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
I've been binge watching your TH-cam channel. I love the two minute sketches because it's something I can do when I feel like I don't have any time for art. Now I'm searching online for the pictures you selected because they are gorgeous and I didn't get enough detail to go over them with water. xD I want to finish them too! I love landscapes because while hard to sketch, I find them so soothing.
That’s great! I’m glad I can help with quick art sessions! The pictures might be hard to find. It takes me a long while to find them myself. You could try pausing the video when I first show the pictures in full view. Or take a screenshot if you have the device for it. I hope that helps. Happy binging! ❤️😊👍
Thank you so much! I use parchment paper in my other sketchbooks. I think it just slipped my mind when I started. You’re absolutely right though. Parchment or wax paper works great and it’s thinner than using paper, so it won’t bulk up your sketchbook too much. 😊👍
While I can pick a favorite, I don't have a least favorite! I loved the first one with the fall colors it looks similar to the lowlands near where I grew up.
I am so glad I came across you today! I can't wait to get home to replay this so I can try it with you. I have watercolor pencils. Once I do these, I will let you know which one is my favorite. Thank you. I can't wait to dig into more of your videos!
I’m glad you found me too! I hope you enjoy sketching and painting along later! It’s harder than it looks, so don’t get too discouraged after the first one. Have fun! 😊👍
Thank you sooooooo much for your video's you have helped me when I really was so nervous to do anything on my new SketchBook and water color books. I remember the video when you just made a squiggly line and said that's it you can move on to the next page or create from the squiggly line lol I loved it I'm still nervous because I want to do perfect pieces and I don't want to waste the paper. So everyday I keep watching your videos to give me inspiration to create. Also thank you for introducing to me your and chunky pencil, it took me back to when I was little and had so much fun in school when they would pull out the fat crayons. But these you use are amazing I just love them they make me want to try and do what you create. I'm a beginner so I'm taken all the tidbits you teach. Have an awesome day and please keep creating and posting I love the landscapes and your bugs and insects lol ohhhhhh and your cows 🐄 I want to try drawing them 😁
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad the videos are helping to get you moving in your sketchbook! I know it’s hard to let go of the perfection mindset. I try to focus on having fun with it. If it’s bad, at least I enjoyed it and I know what I need to work on next time. I agree, the Woodys are so fun to use and really add a playful feeling! I’m glad you like them too! ❤️😊👍
Eventually I'd like to try this...but watching it was fun. The river and beach scene were my favorite of yours...I didn't like the house one...and all those flowers would drive me bananas. The road and the cactus one turned out well.
That’s what I love about them too! They really do have a lot of pigment in them! I like watercolor pencils, but they get a little too washed out once you add water. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback! 😊👍
I stumbled upon this video and this was fun to watch. Love the dandelions with the house. Water definitely brought these into view. The cactus drawing turned out awesome!
I just discovered you and this video, so I thought I'd just jump right in. The only thing close at hand was my small sketchbook and a black pen, so I drew rectangles (roughly 3"x4"), sketched quickly, and wrote down color notes outside the rectangles. I'll take some watercolor to them tomorrow and see what they end up looking like. This was fun and a great exercise. I may try the entire video again someday with watercolor pencils. Thanks!
@@artbyheather I included the color notes in the 2 min time limit, and did the actual color work today. They didn't come out too shabby, except for those darn dandelions which look like yellow rocks.😄 Thanks so much for this exercise. It's a great way to warm up and a perfect way to do a bit of art every day.
Yeah, the dandelions don’t have much shape to them. It’s also hard to work with when they’re at the same level as the tall grass. Sounds like you got some good practice in! Nice job! You’re very welcome! 😊
@kathysunshine699 Sorry about the music interference. The program I use sounds different on my computer. Once I upload it to TH-cam, it always sounds different to me. I’m still trying to figure out what volume level is best. I also use free music, so my options are limited. 😅 Thanks for your feedback. I do appreciate it. I’m glad you enjoyed listening to me and I’m grateful for your viewership! 😊👍
This was fun to watch. I'll have to try it. You would have fun doing Journaling By 5's by Shannon Green. There are lots of videos of people doing it. I did a whole note book full of it.
Honestly I really like how the one with the trail and tree came out!! It looks straight out of those old timey childrens book, then the fence and the other trees in the backgrounds is absolutely gorgeous 💗
Wow! I had a stroke on my dominate side of course! So I'm using my right arm to do any of my art. I was using my watercolor pencils couldn't find my other ones, story of my life. I know 2 minutes was not enough time. so I just watched over and over again Lol I got as far as the 3rd one, not completed by any stretch, my house is really wonky but hey I never said I was a Da Vinci, I wish! Then my dinner came. I'll get back after that. I liked the variety of the pictures!
Thanks for watching and sketching along! Getting to the 3rd one on a non dominant hand is pretty impressive! I’m so glad you liked the picture selection! I hope you enjoyed sketching the last few, they’re my favorite. 😊👍
Beyond the’ which did you like best’, this was very ….what’s the word…*POW*, for me! The biggest takeaway for me was ….Get the horizon and basic shapes down first!!!You hear that all the time, but you SHOWED me! I am so going to do this whole session today. I loved your skies….and noticed you putting blue around the clouds on the desert scene and saw how that looked like clouds when you wet it. I loved how the cactus seemed shaded on one side (the original line) after you wet it. I loved how the flowers in the house scene looked too. Loved the yellow halo around the center. A quick way to grab the impression of the original. This was all very enlightening for me. Thank you so much Heather. By the way…my favorite was the trees and fence down the lane. Another jog for me…stop making all my tree trunks shades of brown and black!!
That’s great!! I’m so glad you got so much out of this video! I know what you mean. (To hear it versus seeing it.) It’s that lightbulb moment. I love when that happens! I hope you give it a try. Just remember to keep trying. The first time can be discouraging… but the more you do it, the more you’ll learn. Have fun with it! Also, I was So guilty of the tree trunk thing too. It’s all part of the process. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
Watching from Liverpool, England. Thank you so much, I have recently taken up coloring books using pencils and I love it! I have just bought some budget water colour pencils and small paint pallette, have never tried sketching/painting before and your video is just what I need to have a go. I look forward to watching more of your content. 🖍🖌🖍
Welcome! I’m so happy to help! I personally love being able to draw and paint at the same time. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do! Thanks for watching! 😊👍
My favorite was the cactus picture and the hardest for me was the first one. This was so fun! I just did them while I was at work when I needed a little brain break.
That’s great! Perfect for a brain break! As long as you don’t get in trouble at work..😅 That first one was definitely tricky. Thanks for sharing your favorite and sketching along with me! 😊👍
@@artbyheather this was the first of your videos I saw, so I didn't know you go back to them and finish them up later. I used highlighters and markers so that's not gonna happen for mine 🤣 oh well! They're so vibrant and fun!
Thanks for this. I sketch on location a lot and have been wanting to add color to my casual sketches and this is a great way to use water soluable materials.
I love this idea to warm up. I wonder if you picked your colors first then when you start do the horizon line then the biggest object first then hit the details. They turned out pretty.😊
That sounds like a great game plan for these warmups! I always feel like I have a good plan and then once I hit the timer… it all goes out the window. 😆 Thanks for watching! 😊👍
It's very fun to watch you paint. Suggestion in your layouts, watch your tangents on your horizon lines. Because you brought the reeds up to but not crossing your horizon line on your seascape, your horizon cuts the layout almost in half. Tangents are what you try to avoid when you draw. Good exercises. It enjoyed them.
My favorites were the cactus (super), and the houses. I would just use one page for each one. I’m anew subscriber, that’s how much I loved this exercise!
Thanks for sharing your feedback! And Welcome! Im so glad you enjoyed it! You’re right. I think one page each worked better last time. I can always use the back pages for something else later. 😊👍
I’ve been thinking about playing with my neocolors. They were a gift, and are pretty much new to me. I stumbled across your channel, and this was really fun to watch! I think I’ll try it, but I’m going to cheat a little and pick my colors first, and THEN start the timer, haha…because I’m a chicken! 😂
🤣 I thought about doing that also! That’s totally fine by me. It’s still practice, even if you need to cheat a little. I hope you have fun with it! Thanks for watching! 😊👍
I like the house picture followed by the trees and path. I like them all. I have Catan D' Ache water crayons too and love to use them when time permits. Keep on creating!
I think you chose great pictures as reference. I do love the house and tree pictures together! I think you should make a painting using those 2 references together!
The branches of the first tree in the one with the fence and trees looked beautifulll! They had great shape and they looked so real!! Also, I think it would be cool if you changed this up a little bit by using a different art supply like colored pencils or something, depending on what you have and if you even wanted to😊
Thanks so much! I have used watercolor pencils in a previous video, but they were a little hard to see on camera. I thought about using acrylic paint, but maybe limiting the color palette. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊👍
Omgosh, I just found you and I loved this video! I'm going to go back and do this with you! Thank you so much for sharing.. could be a game changer for my art as I don't usually do warm ups. Thanks again!
That’s great! I’m glad you found me! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Just remember that you will get better the more you do it. My very first try was a dog picture and I only got half of it drawn and it looked like a teddy bear. 😆 So don’t get discouraged and have fun! 😊👍
What a cool video! I wanted another minute to lay down the basics of some of these! It showed me how you can lay down the composition in just a few minutes. I love how you narrated your thoughts as you went. It helped me learn The thought process. I also thought about how to layer the complementary color on top of the bright color sloto mute it. Although I love watching art videos, I don’t draw. But you Inspired me to try this!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m not a drawer either, but there is a lot to learn from this exercise, like you said. I’m so glad you gave it a try and learned a little something in the process! Thanks for sharing your feedback! 😊👍
My favourite before the water was the first but then I added water and my paper refused to blend out the black and dark brown I used for the waterline and edges on the stream. But in the last one I had learned for whatever reason black and brown just wasn’t blending out for me so I worked out how to work around it and I loved how my cactus turned out. Thank you for sharing this was really great to work alongside of you throughout your process and I am subscribing for future videos. ❤❤
Oh no. I’m sorry your paper wouldn’t cooperate. At least you were able to figure it out on the last one! Thanks for watching and sketching along with me! I’m so glad you enjoyed the process! More to come! 😊👍
My favorite is the one with the cactuses! I stumbled on to this video as it came up as a watch next option, im glad i watched it :) at first i didnt like the 2 minute limit since tbh i felt like you didnt have enough time to get any where with any of them really, but after watching till the end i think YOU changed my mind haha. I have never seen these crayons before, i actually didnt know watercolorcrayons exited. I was quite shocked at how it looks when adding water to them, i guess thats when my mind changed about the 2 minutes. Sure you/i could get much further if we add time but that would also defeat the purpose. Getting that "oh i wanna finish it, i wanna do more"-feeling is much more important than making them look great. I did not paint along, but i think i will the next time. but i think i need to buy either watercolor crayons or pencils first cause i think i'd enjoy doing it with that more than with acrylic or oilpaint. Im gonna go watch what other videos you have now :)
Thanks! I’m glad you stuck around! The benefits of this exercise are so great because not only do they vary from day to day, they vary from person to person. I love using water soluble materials to do these, but you can always use a ballpoint pen to practice shading and value. Either way, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Thanks for watching and sharing your favorite! 😊👍
I love warm-ups like this. I would like to a suggestion, especially for complicated subjects like the landscapes (or the figure for that matter). From my experience doing 50 drawings in 4hrs (a favorite exercise of mine - 4.8 minutes per drawing), since you are using such a small time frame, and going back in later, don't worry about colour. Think line and tone. For me it is compressed charcoal, water soluble graphite, fountain pen, or reed pen and ink. If I have time, I go back in with water and create a basic value structure. Occasionally I revisit the sketch with watercolour or markers. Watercolourist Charles Reid, just did a quick, almost blind, contour drawing in pencil or pen. Just something to try.
Wow! That sounds like a real workout! I’m sure you learn a lot doing it that way. I did think about doing them in a monochrome way, to take the color picking out of it. You’re right, not having to think about color would allow you more time for value and structure. Maybe I’ll try that next time. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊👍
For me, the first one was the hardest because i was focusing too much on getting the good color (i was doing the challenge with alcool marker). The one that surprise me the most was the last one. I saw the picture and I was like "what are all those colors", then the timer started and I just keep going and im very happy at the result after 2 min. LOVE doing time challenge ! Especially along with someone. Thank you. Last thing, I know because of youtube DMCA stuff you cannot do this challenge, but one i like to do is put a music playlist of song i like on random and I have the time of the song to sketch something. I got a couple of nice mockup doing that !
Thanks for sketching with me! I’m glad you kept going! It’s really interesting how having a time limit forces you to be decisive and not over think. The more you do it, the better you’ll get at it. You’ll see it affecting your work without the timer also. Thanks for sharing the music challenge idea! I’ll have to give that a try. (not on TH-cam) That sounds really fun! 😊👍
You can use anything! Just a pencil or pen. If you have colored pencils or markers… someone posted theirs on instagram and they used highlighters because that’s all they had on their desk. Using any kind of paint would be a fun challenge. If you like watercolor, you can do the quick sketch in pen or pencil and then go over it with the watercolor. Some pens will spread with water, that might be fun to try! Use whatever you have. It’s a lot of fun! ❤️😊👍
I think as long as it’s mixed media or watercolor paper it should work well. I don’t have a lot of experience with different papers, but I have found that I like using paper with less texture for water soluble materials. I think it blends out better with the water and leaves less marks behind. I hope that helps. 😊
I’m glad you enjoyed my video! I’m not sure what song you’re asking about. There is no song playing at the beginning of this video. If you can tell me the time stamp in the video when the song is playing, that would be helpful. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
That’s ok. It gets easier with repetition. I still think some are more challenging than others. I hope you give it a try! If not, thanks for watching! 😊👍
This is exactly what I need to be doing. The perfectionist in me always wants to go into way to much detail. Luckily I have Neocolours & woody's. I'm definitely trying this. Thanks for uploading!

Thanks! I love that one too! ❤️😊👍
When you were doing the beach scene I was screaming "OMG get the peach for the sand! You're gonna run out of time! Peach!!!" You grabbed the peach. I let out the breath I was holding. 😅
🤣 it’s interesting what you forget about until the time is about to run out. Thanks for watching! 😊👍

Where did you get your picture to drawing?
I've been struggling trying to find an after school routine but, I think I just found it. ❤ I hope my little one likes the idea as much as I do. 😊
That’s great! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Have fun with your new routine! 😊👍
This was fun to watch. I'll have to try it. You would have fun doing Journaling By 5's by Shannon Green. There are lots of videos of people doing it. I did a whole note book full of it.
That sounds interesting! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Honestly I really like how the one with the trail and tree came out!! It looks straight out of those old timey childrens book, then the fence and the other trees in the backgrounds is absolutely gorgeous 💗
Thanks so much! It’s a great picture! 😊👍
Love this! Think the beach and cactus turned out really well. 👍
Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
I just stumbled on this 4 weeks later and I loved all of them but the flowers were beautiful!
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you found my video and enjoyed it! 😊👍
Thank you! On to more today!
So glad you showed up in my recommendations. Looking forward to trying these out.
That’s great! I hope you have fun sketching along!
I love them all. 💜
Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked them!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Yes, I see what you mean. Thanks for the tip! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 😊👍
Love the cactus #1. Close 2nd trees and road but all were great. Thanks for the push to do it.
You’re very welcome! Thanks for sharing your favorites!😊👍
What a great idea! I'll be trying this very soon. Thank you 😊
I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching! 😊👍
Very cool 😎 absolutely loved the last two, it was magical to watch you put the colour on the cacti 😍 I also thought your skies were stunning ❤️
Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked them! Thanks for sharing your favorites!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your favorites! 😊👍
The big tree picture turned out really good. Also love the sky in the beach pic. Great job!
Thanks for sharing your favorites! 😊👍
Loved doing this
. Just had black pen. Did small .. great practise.. glad i found you.
That’s great! Glad you found me too! 😊👍
I think you chose great pictures as reference. I do love the house and tree pictures together! I think you should make a painting using those 2 references together!
That would make for a great painting! Thank you so much for your feedback! 😊👍
So enjoyed watching…I need to do this!
I hope you give it a try! You can do different times also if it’s too fast or too slow. 1 min, 3min, 5min. Find what works best for you. 😊👍
@@artbyheather oh I guess I didn’t see it unless I don’t remember…🤔
No worries. It was months ago. You might have just missed it. 😊
YEEESSSS!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I FREAKING LOVE THIS!!!! 😂
😁👍 So glad you enjoy them!
I love this!!!!❤️😂👍🏻 thank you!!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great exercise !
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The bech scene is wonderful
Thanks for sharing your favorite! 😊👍
These were all such good practice - thanks for such a great selection of photos and for getting me inspired to have a go! Loved it! :))
That’s great to hear! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!
Love this 2 minute warmup what a way to get started. TFS I may have to try this on my channel. 🤙❤
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s a great way to get moving! Thanks for watching!😊👍
This was so fun I loved it! I loved not knowing the timer too 😅 like pressure was off me
The tree and pathway one I found the hardest!
Thanks for watching! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I wasn’t sure if showing the timer would help or not. Thanks for your feedback! 😊👍
I just went on
a ride on my anxiety rollercoaster😂😂😂
🤣 It definitely gets the blood pumping! I hope it was still an enjoyable ride.
@@artbyheather
It is a great way to get out of my head, or break a block by creating different compositions.
That’s awesome! Let that momentum really take over.
I liked the 🏜 desert scene best 🙂
Thanks for sharing your favorite! I really like that one too! ❤️😊👍
I love the cactuses! Cacti? 😅
😆Yes, Cacti. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
I don't have many art supplies and your video inspired me: I need more toys!
I’m so happy to inspire you! Go get creative and thanks so much for watching! 😊👍
I loooove thiiiis!!! But I dont have neo colors and cant afford new supplies right now 😭 What else could I use?
You can use anything! Just a pencil or pen. If you have colored pencils or markers… someone posted theirs on instagram and they used highlighters because that’s all they had on their desk. Using any kind of paint would be a fun challenge. If you like watercolor, you can do the quick sketch in pen or pencil and then go over it with the watercolor. Some pens will spread with water, that might be fun to try! Use whatever you have. It’s a lot of fun! ❤️😊👍
Trees and fence the hardest one. but had trouble with the dandelions, too. The first one was easiest for me.
The tree was definitely challenging! Thanks for sharing your hardest/easiest! I hope you enjoy it! 😊👍
My favourite is the cacti one ❤
Thanks for sharing your favorite! 😊👍
Anyone else see the man’s face in the paper towel next to the sketchbook? Full face, eyes (one winking) nose, mouth and chin! 😮
I think I see it! Looks like an older man with thin lips? It’s kind of creepy looking! 😳
Definitely creepy old man. 😬
There’s 3 men’s faces…2 full face and 1 in profile. We all must have Pareidolia. I think it’s kind neat.
😆👍 We definitely have it.
What is the best paper that you have found for watersoluable pencils, graphite or neo?
I think as long as it’s mixed media or watercolor paper it should work well. I don’t have a lot of experience with different papers, but I have found that I like using paper with less texture for water soluble materials. I think it blends out better with the water and leaves less marks behind. I hope that helps. 😊
I liked, I subscribed! ❤🇦🇺
Thank you so much! And Welcome! 😊👍
i liked the creek
Thanks for sharing your favorite! I really enjoyed sketching and painting it! 😊👍
Hi! I enjoyed your video! What song is playing in the very beginning and near the end? Kinda Rasta. Thanks, Kathy
I’m glad you enjoyed my video! I’m not sure what song you’re asking about. There is no song playing at the beginning of this video. If you can tell me the time stamp in the video when the song is playing, that would be helpful. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
Dam those are some thick colouring pencils, they will last a good while, are they wax and what's the brand
They are Stabilo Woodys. They say 3 in 1. (wax crayon, coloring pencil, and watercolor pencil.) They are similar to the Neocolor II.
What was that song that was playing whilst you were adding the water and who is the artist singing it please?
Ice & Fire by King Canyon.
You might try mixing a little orange into the green.
Yes, you’re right. That would add a little earthy color to it. 👍
👏👌👍
😊👍
Did well
Thanks! ❤️😊👍

That’s ok. It gets easier with repetition. I still think some are more challenging than others. I hope you give it a try! If not, thanks for watching! 😊👍
