Any one who didn't vote got Sadiq Khan and Keir Stalin. You must vote to keep a party OUT, not to bring a Party IN. Voting is not an emotional spasm. We will probably never get a free and fair election again. Have we thrown our own Democracy and freedom down the drain? We are going to reap what we sow, because we couldn't be bothered to vote, or take any interest in what our politicians were doing.

    Andy,
Really appreciate your down to earth approach to our current politics.
I've 'come out' as a Reform UK supporter, but I understand the reticence of some to do the same.
    Time will tell.
If Reform UK manage to legitimise their party & structure further, then support will grow, and supporters will feel less worried about demonstrating their preference in public.
    ... continued ...

      @StephenRBritt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for that Andy!
To continue ... my limited experience of Reform UK supporters concurs with most of the stereotypes, but I don't say that critically.
My belief is that there is still much support to be gained from disillusioned Conservatives, but even more from the 'working class' left - those that voted for Brexit.
      Keep up the good work.

This fact is for your answer on the question you gave. The reason labour won is the 1st past the post voting system. The reality is Labour won 1 seat with 23000 votes. On the other hand Reform needed 800000 votes to claim 1 seat? How is this fair? It isn't ! Proportional representation is the only way to have a fair election in my opinion.

A Referendum was held to changed the Parliamentary Voting System.
A form of Proportional Representation Voting System is designed to prevent one
Political Party having overall control of a chamber.
      The Devolved Government of Scotland.
Since the detailed above was created, a PR System has been used to elect MSP's to sit in Holyrood.
YET, for many years, Holyrood had been described as
"The SNP majority Devolved Government of Scotland"
      So no guarantee.
It was a PR Voting System which was used in Germany, which allowed Adolf Hitler to become
Chancellor Adolf Hitler of Germany. 1 February 1933.
      The State of Israel 🇮🇱.
A PR Voting System is used to elect Members in The Knesset.
Today, this has resulted in PM Benjamin Netanyahu "getting in to bed' with very Right-leaning Politicians, (MKs)
to form a Coalition Government, with the possibility of only needing one Cabinet Member, disagreeing, causing The Government to fall.
THE RESULT: Five Elections in four years.
This brings instability to a country, and affects Foreign Investment, has a negative impact on growth within the economy.

I live in a democracy with PR voting and know in advance how my vote and that of others count. For example, 10% of votes for a party gives 10% of MPs in parliament. In UK FPTP no one knows whether 10% gives 0 or 75 mandates. I would have a big problem with that. And understand well those who do not want to participate at all.

The City of London is known for its invisible earnings, as a hub of financial services such as insurance, commodities trading and investment. What is less well known is that the City of London Corporation is the oldest continuous democratic commune in the world. Two thousand years of self-government is quite an achievement. For no one to really notice is perhaps the greatest achievement of all. Invisible earnings, invisible power.

That's the power base. Old as the hills.
In 1910, the French social scientist, journalist and writer Francois Delaisi (1873-1947) wrote a book titled La democratie et les financiers (Democracy and the Financiers) in which he detailed how France in his day, despite its claims to being a 'democracy', was in fact controlled by 55 individuals, who he said, 'governed' and exploited it. Delaisi points to a member of the French parliament and asks: "Which side should the poor man support? The people pay him 3000 francs a year, and the shareholders pay him 30,000 francs!" and goes on to ask how far a socialist deputy, in this case Alexandre Millerand, who was earning 30,000 francs (this was 1910!) representing insurance companies, could be independent. Large-scale capitalism, he wrote,
had succeeded in making democracy into the most marvellous, flexible and effective tool for exploiting the whole population. Financiers were usually imagined to be the enemies of democracy....but this was a fundamental error. On the contrary, they run democracy and encourage it, for it provides a screen behind which they can hide their method of exploitation, and they find it their best defence against any objections which the populace may raise."

The 18th century was a glorious epoch for the City and its Corporation. Conflict, however, remained between the Corporation and the Crown, and two different concepts of state and empire developed, one based on “free trade” and championed by the Corporation, the other based on prerogative rule and the sovereignty of the Crown. The City of London supported George Washington and provided funds and men for the cause. The citizens of London reminded the king, to the point of treason, that it was they and not he who had won the civil war.

I voted reform but have a few doubts ,Nigel Farage has to really step up this next 4or 5 years so far I’m less than impressed but he has to be allowed a bit of time and can’t afford to waste it .
