  • If you have, or want, a HB Toys Wilderness Beluga R1001 or R1011, then this video is for you. In this video we work to get the stock receiver waterproof with some conformal coating. This upgrade makes the trucks splash proof and water resistent. It makes a HUGE difference if you run, trail, or crawl in an area that has water, or you want to cross water with the the truck.

Thanks, Dirk! It definitely helps if you run in places where the truck may get wet

Great job waterproofing the circuit boards. Another waterproofing tip, a lot of times the water can get into the pins for the connectors too, causing a short between pins. These shorts don't usually do permanent damage like they can on the circuit boards but are one of the main causes for servos to glitch and freak out. battery connectors are also susceptible to shorts and can destroy your battery. Try encasing the connectors with a silicon water sealant like bathtub caulking. The silicon doesn't permanently bond to most things, it stays flexible and isn't to hard to peel off if you need to unplug things.

The receiver box can be supplemented with a pair of Ø6*4*10?? aluminum tubes and some longer screws, for example, to give more height and avoid the water problem, although the servo would still be the first victim. When mine arrives, I will try to make this improvement and raise the servo speeds as well.

I also have the R1001. A newbie question , do you only need to waterproof the receiver. How about the esc and the 2 servos . Nice channel by the way.

The ESC it comes with is a Hobbywing 1060 and is already waterproof. I actually don’t know about the servo since I changed mine out but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it.
Thank you for the compliment! I appreciate you checking it out.

@@YARCWest Thanks for the quick reply. Actually, in our country we use clear nail polish to waterproof receivers. Hard to find silicone stuffs here. I'm concerned about the servos since I've read here in yt that servos can be finnicky in water.

That certainly could be true. When I got mine wet on the first run the receiver stopped functioning and when I put a new receiver on to test, I did have steering but was only one run in water and changed the servo out the next day. The stock servos are definitely nothing high quality.
