Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is a full 3D remake of the first game in the legendary Wizardry series of RPGs.
The first party-based RPG video game ever released, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was a direct inspiration to series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Digital Eclipse's revival preserves the appeal of the classic, with many upgrades for modern role-playing game fans.

I love Wizardry 8. I can still hear both the magnificent character creation and the Arnika soundtrack. Please, do not disappoint.

I would pay anything if somebody were to create an English version of the PS2 sequel to Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, aka Busin 0: Wizardry Alternative Neo. I would like to know how much it would cost to finance such a project. Somebody needs to get this ball rolling. Every year that passes me by I always find myself running a quick internet search hoping to stumble upon an English translation or remake of the game. This Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord remake could be the beginning of something much bigger. Thank you for remaking this awesome-looking game and sparking a feeling of hope in my heart, I really appreciate it.
It would be great to see wizardry 8 in HD as well. I can only guess the cost and I am not an expert. Maybe several thousands even 10's of thousands? If it just a translation job, plus a HD upgrade id say my guess is decent.

I once killed Cosmic Lord in Wizardry 8. Can't believe it was 20 years ago already. To me it was the best piece in the genre.
The Dark Savant trilogy was quite good for it's time.

Played this on the Apple 2e... fun to see it back, I can still remember installing it on floppy disks and was surprised at how many it took.

From what I have seen of the remake gameplay it looks great. I love the music OST too. I can't wait to get this on switch. Wizardry is the grand daddy master king of ALL RPGs when it came out in the 1980s. And that's no joke and can be proven.
My dream materialized. Just three days ago I was thinking about how great something like this would be and now I discover that it is already a reality. It's the original and my personal favorite of the entire series. And he's as old as me... Incredible!

Not necessarily. I'm a big RPG fan and I'm only 26, there's people born long after older games came out that still enjoy high quality retro releases.
Without the Cranky Apple II floppy drive and low res green screen I doubt it will be as good..... still give it a look tho

should come to consoles like PS4. the japanese inspired DRPGs can't rival the best western DRPGs. Wizardry 8 especiallyl deserves to be remastered and go multiplatform, one of the ultimate RPGs. I'm impressed the characters avatars portraits art looks entirely better than many DRPGs out there. though I seen what Among Theives dev was doing with live action portraits and feel that is a better direction to go with avatars/portraits, better than paintings.

Please please make it so a thief can use a sling (heck add slings or bows) so they are not 100% useless when you don't have to open a chest.

Still playing Baldur's Gate 3 and will still be doing so tomorrow and for weeks BUT buying this right now because I know I will have a great time with it soon, haha
I'd be into that game if it didn't have the most bland visuals imaginable, and also if it didn't have the creepy, disgusting, and pointless nudity and sex scenes. If the game had an actual art style that looked nice and didn't force itself to be rated M just to target casual gamers then I think I'd have enjoyed it.

Wish it was getting the documentary treatment. So many people around Wizardry at the time, it felt like a central point for all 80's computer RPGs. Especially all those cameos in IV.
Hell yeah! Please make more dungeon crawler remakes, like Might and Magic 6-9! This is a great start! Im more than a fan to these games!
EXACTLY, Might & Magick 6, 7, 8, were DOPE! 9 wasn't AS good BUT it DID have alota kewl new ideas for general Dungeon design (that, in a way, felt loosely inspired by things like old-school Gameboy/N64 Zelda/Alundra games "Puzzle-Dungeons", or maybe vice-versa?) which was pretty nice
... my Main in M&M8 was a Cleric dood I always named Admiral Nelson (don't ask, I dunno why I "wrote" him that way, was a nerdy kid lolol )
I don't think the Might and Magic 6-8 parts need a remake, they are already very accessible as is and the graphic style aged well, it has a certain charme that fits the genre.
I spent hundreds of hours in those games.
But the first two parts could need a remake because they are very antique and cumbersome to play nowadays.
@@Pelendralaar94 no, they aren't, M&M 6-9 aren't even playable anymore unless you know how Computer Science & how to code/reprogram computers, otherwise they're unplayable now, waaay to outa date to be compatible....
Anyway, in a side note, I got a concept for an indirect Sequel, like 100 years after the last entry Timeline-wise;
Might & Magick: Might of the Emperium
Would be an Action-Rpg of a similar nature to say Dragon's Dogma, sorta, but with a complex Skill System & high Lvl Cap like OG M&M 6-8, that would require you to hit up Combat Ranges (like old-school Training Grounds) to actually gain Lvl's after getting the Exp, with new Classes like Arcane Marksman, & Fencer-Mage, for a couple ideas ....
(When I say Dragon's Dogma, I mean the general feel of it, more or less, but with multiple Difficulty settings, for players who want a particular kinda challenge, the hope would be to, if even possible, have a system that turns on/off groups of Recovery-Frames in Animations to speed up/slow down the general feel/pacing of Combat, so from fast-paced to near Tactical-Rpg in speed, by way of enemies Anim.s taking way longer or having no added "Warm-up" time at all, with 2-3 settings in-between, depending on Skill/Preferences)

Wizardry 1 is a good game to make a remake out of. However,... I see no reason for Early Access here. This might be the easiest game possible for a graphical upgrade remake. No need to release before it's done (which shouldn't take long).
I've only ever played Wizardry Tale of the Forsaken Land on my ps2 and was always curious on the other games, really good timing i must say :D

It's basically Etrian Odyssey's grandpa.
Wizardry is what Etrian Odyssey is based on. They even got the composer of Etrian Odyssey to compose the soundtrack on the same PC-88 system that Wizardry was on back in the day, to make it extra authentic.
