- Do you own a Carbide3d Shapeoko and interested in purchasing the PwnCNC ATC? This video is for you. In this video we discuss the step-by-step installation of the PwnCNC ATC onto Carbide3d's latest Shapeoko 5 Pro CNC Machine.
The PWNcnc ATC utilizes the ISO20 tool holders that are an industry standard making the addition of more tool holders affordable the easy to source. The ATC is available in both 110v and 220v configurations along with 1.5 and 2.2kw. This is an easy upgrade to install without any special tools required.

that's quite the spindle. beautiful work!
A better name for this would be "power draw bar" which is what Tormach calls the feature on their CNC mills.
Did you change the z axis assembly or it the original one?
Nope, it is the stock Z carriage, however I did install our 80mm spindle mount instead of using theirs.
Great video, Daniel.
Hey, will you be doing any videos for the Longmill or their SLB any time soon? 🤞🤞
It is definitely coming. The summer crew has ramped up working which relieves me of a bunch of stuff I was doing personally. Relaxing atm doing some much needed personal honey-do items then I’ll be recording more videos.
@PwnCNC That's good to hear (not the honey-do part). 😁
Enjoy your relaxation.👍 Looking forward to the Yellow Friday sale too.
What size wire chain did you use?
I swapped the left side chains to a 18*50 which gives plenty of space for the ATC's tubes and wires.
@PwnCNC thank you so much, one more question please, when do you think the PwnCNC Conversion Kit featuring the Masso Touch Controller (preorder) will be ready to ship, I'm ordering mine the Thursday before valentine's day
Noticed that you didn't have any type of air dryer system in the installation. Everything I've read seems to indicate that is needed. Do you really need one or is it just overkill?
It really depends on your conditions. With air compressors… pulling conditioned air causes less condensation inside the tank. In my conditioned garage, I have a dehumidifier running constantly. Under these conditions I’m producing pretty dry air coming from my compressor.
An air dryer is still recommended even the smaller kind. Something is better than nothing… my something is the dehumidifier.
How does this spindle compare to the 1.2kw from carbide create? I assume it’s a little more powerful since you said it was a 1.5kw
Although not exactly compared in this article (pwncnc.com/pages/comparing-spindle-kits) it does a good job of comparing features that are part of the VFD.
If you only compare the 1.2kw vs 1.5kw it is a super simple ours is slightly more powerful motor. Where we shine is with our VFD Enclosure and the many features we've chosen to expose from these Delixi VFD's. Along with the upgrade path into one of our ATC's.
You mentioned the Shapeoko doesn't support ATC. What is your recommendation for buying a CNC (for woodworking) that would support full ATC?
For the Masso controller, the one we've researched the most and for sure certain it'll work with the ATC very easily, only the Onefinity Elite and Mill Right's Mega-V2 have the Masso Touch controller.
The cnc4newbie machines are also tested to work with the ATC, however the documentation for their controllers is still being worked on.
We are working on a Masso Touch conversion kit that can be installed onto any CNC machine, but that is not yet ready for purchase.
Daniel, presumably this works with a Shapeoko HDM as well in the same manner?
Yes exactly. Great news though… I’ve determined how to trigger the “forward” function when the rpm command from the controller goes above a minimum value. This eliminates a step currently required by the controller because of the lack of a forward trigger relay.
We’re documenting this new setting and excited to get a video to show the full feature.

This is cool but kinda gets rid of the A in ATC, granted its a shaepoko limitation.
Completely agree. MTC is still viable for certain folks who have either disabilities or needing a faster way to change their bits.
After installing this onto my S5P, i turned to developing the Conversion Kit. Replacing the machine's electronics and installing a masso touch controller which enables full ATC functionality.
