      It's the interviewer's specialty to be a know-it-all and be obvious (except it appears that he doesn't even know that he is).
      If you've ever met someone who isn't smart but thinks they're really smart, he kind of reminds me of that. A few more brain cells, and he'd have more discretion.

But as it happens, I am not surprised that Robin and Billy had a good understanding. They were/are both free thinking guys. My life as been enhanced by these two. The thing about Parkinsons is that the mind is still there. Billy is still in that body. His mind and comedy is still there but the effects of the disease and the medication he has to take to try to keep it at bay have slowed him right down. It's sad to see those physical effects but this interview proved that he is sharp as ever.

    • @fishypaw
      @fishypaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Parkinson's disease makes it difficult to talk (as well as everything else), My dad suffered with it for many years. It really affected his ability to talk quite quickly but thankfully with the help of some cutting edge speech therapy techniques he was still able to communicate, but just not as fast as he used to or wanted to.
      The worst thing about this disease is (like you say) 'the mind is still there' but it is slowly being locked in.
      I wish Billy the best, a fellow Glaswegian who, for many a decade, has made life on this crazy planet a lot more tolerable and amusing

    Bit of a loaded question from that lady. But brilliantly answered by Sir Billy. I've had mates who have committed suicide, you can spend your whole life wondering why you couldn't see the signs. In the end, you have to understand that there truly is nothing you could've done, they'd made up their mind and no pleading or self pity can fix that. All you can do is remember them and cherish the time you had with them.

    Life is like a party. Nobody usually gives you shit for wanting to leave a party early. "Oh, I've got a headache" or "I need to get up with the kids in the morning for school", that sort of thing. And people are usually gracious about it. "Oh thanks for coming, it was nice to see you."
    We need to approach death the same way. Why is there so much fear surrounding it? We don't get to choose how (or even _that,_ when you think about it) we come into the world, but why can't we get to decide how we leave? If you're not happy, or you're tired, or whatever reason you have, why shouldn't you be allowed to leave the party when you want to? Why is it we will put our pets to sleep when they're sick or old, and acknowledge that they count on us to ease their suffering, but we get all fussed and awful about it when it's our Nan, or our Aunt, or our friends? Is it because we consider _our_ lives more important? Is it because our friends and family look like us, and we can talk to them and understand them when they talk back? Is it because we can just go out and buy another pet, even one that looks like the old one? Is that the difference? Our acceptance that with pets we know we'll only get them for 15 or so years, and a couple bucks later we can have a new one?
    If you're tired, or you're sick, or you've accomplished your entire bucket list, you should be allowed to leave graciously. You'd think that after 100 billion of us have died since we first arrived on the scene, that we'd have a better handle on the process. We all die-there's no escaping it-so why not enjoy life while you can and leave on your own terms?
    Besides, it's your own party. Do what you want. And remember, nobody ever died from double-dipping a chip in the dip. So take a chance.

    The tragedy of suicide for loved ones is the “if only I could turn back the clock” scenario. It really eats people up inside but the truth is, they’ve already made up their mind and there is nothing, besides placing someone in a rubber room in a straight jacket, you can do to stop them. Billy is right though, truth is, you just have to get on with it. If you watch Billy’s documentaries, you can tell he loves people and he loves life and Parkinson’s is just another hurdle you have to get over.

    @JamesFaction 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Billy is a shadow of his former self. But he's made peace with that, accepted it, and even talks freely about his decline in interviews. He still enjoys life and makes the most of it. On the other hand, Robin Williams knew he was facing the same decline and couldn't accept it. BTW I think it was found out posthumously that he was misdiagnosed with Parkinsons, he actually had a similar condition called Lewy Body dementia.
    Williams said many times in interviews that for him standup was "therapy". At 63 his condition had worsened to the point where he couldn't do standup, couldn't do comedy the way he used to. I think without his "therapy" he wasnt coping anymore? At any rate, Robin Williams is missed by many including me. One of the greatest comedians ever. RIP.

      Okie Rider Try a billion, the reason I typed about the prostate exam was I just watched that routine again last night and I nearly died.
      You think you can remember everything about what Billy says but there's no chance, he has given so much good material over the years, and Robin too.

    Is it just me or do young interviewers seem stupid, with completely insensitive questions, they seem to have a moral compass to ask questions which make u squirm because a normal question wouldn't do.

    This is before everyone found out he had dementia. Everyone thought why would he kill himself. If it was Parkinson I think he would have lived with it because his mind woyld still be intact.

    • @NxDoyle
      @NxDoyle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      He _did_ have Parkinson's _and_ Lewy Body Dementia. Parkinson's can affect the mind, especially with depression and uncontrollable pathetic sentimentality, which can feed the depression. (I use 'pathetic' in its original context.)

    What a couple of awkward and amateur interviewers, Billy handled them well.

    I played this video hoping to hear Billy really talk about Robin Williams as they were the best of mates but these 2 clowns interviewing him were as dead pan as you can get. The questions were not thought out & the lack of empathy is deafening - very bad. The old Billy Connolly would have crucified them.
