Thanks so much for this video! I just wanted to provide some context on the handheld versions of N+: in order to support ourselves while we were making N+ XBLA, we licensed the handheld rights to Atari. Unfortunately, despite promises to the contrary, the developer didn't listen to our input/feedback, and as a result they are (in our opinion) inferior versions that don't feel right. Originally we weren't supposed to work on them at all, however once we saw how terrible the levels were, we realized that we'd have to make all of the levels ourselves or else fans would be really disappointed... this tripled our level design workload and was incredibly stressful. Anyway, our games aren't for everyone and tend to fly under the radar, so it's nice to be reminded that there are still plenty of people out there who appreciate them.
Yo the man, the myth! Hope you don't think I edited you too dirty. I was curious about the handheld games because they never came up in the talks. Did they just kinda make you guys creative leads, or just more of as consultants and do their own thing? The way those games turned out it really feels like they kinda just to the ball and ran with it.
@@skippy7552 No worries, actually I had completely forgotten about that talk. :) I don't remember what our official position was; we were supposed to consult with the developer regularly, but after our first few visits we realized that they weren't listening at all to any of our feedback (because they didn't have to, since it wasn't really in the contract). Got the game just now, your video sparked memories of me and my cousins battling it out and trolling eahcother on this game. and holy hell was it a vibe. Thanks!
Not only did you convince me to revisit the joy & pain the N series brought me, but the music you used in this video also had me digging out some old MP3 players I had, and listened to some old chiptunes I haven't heard since the 8Bitcollective was still thriving. So thank you for that.
"You're eventually going to hit a wall." YUUUP. Mine was buying it on Switch and then seeing the menu and how much friggin' stuff there was to do. Ahhhh, analysis paralysis! Great video, my dude. Exquisite vibe-age.
Real nice video, that punch from the N+ main menu music at 4:42 was such a huge hit of nostalgia. I've never forgotten about this series, and I'm always happy to see it getting repped, especially since the devs are still around in its circles and commenting and talking about stuff and sharing info. Thanks for making this
"The N Game" as I used to call it... was a huge part of my 5th grade existence, along with Line Rider (I tend to merge the two together into similar simplistic experiences). I also got N+ on the DS and N++ on the Switch as well. All great games in the same series. I appreciate the iterations and their additions.
Thank you for this video! I completely forgot about N+ , and at this stage in my life.. a good brain break game is needed. I definitely want to support this team, so I’m buying it! Great Video dude!
Fond memories of playing N and N+ many, many years ago which came back when I saw the thumbnail to this video. Had no idea there was an N++. Great video.
For me, 10 years ago, N was easily the most fun option on the internet after finishing your school work early in the computer lab. Played the heck out of N+ too on my DS, thanks for making this.
Dude, I remember wasting so much hours on N as a kid. It was very different from the games available on those flash game sites like Y8, Newground, etc. I didn't know that they made TWO MORE SEQUELS??? I'm going to have to visit those sequels and the original N for nostalgia's sake. Thanks for the video!
The loved the original N so much when I was in school, and I was hyped to find N++ on the Switch. Then when I was playing I started recognizing the music artists like Lorn. It's one of my favorite games on my Switch. My kid and I play co-op together until a lack of skill devolves into deliberately dying in absurd ways and competing for who can die fastest.
Found this game as kid when it was a flash game. forgot the name of it and could never find it for years. then found it when i got a bit older, this video just showed me there’s newer and better versions of the game. Awesome game and good memories with it also, the song in the soundtrack Rival Consoles - recovery has been in my playlist by coincidence as of recent, small world.
Dude you just unlocked some memories. I used to play N back in the golden Flash days and I didn't even know it. And to see how far it has all come, nice!
man ive not played this game in like 10 years and i can still identify levels. "oh i remember that one. i was stuck on it for like 4 hours and wanted to throw my psp out the window. great level." "hey its the level where i gave up on getting gold badges for every chapter" what an excellent game
Man this video was such a fun ride and a trip to nostalgia. While I never had a console so I can't count N+, I really enjoyed N v 1.4 during the Flash years from elementary to high school (and its Nreality modded version that allowed custom backgrounds and even more gameplay features!!) and when N++ came out it was fascinating to see how much effort they put into having color schemes, background music, new enemies and levels and redefine what they started all those years ago. Just glad there's enough viewers and commenters on this vid showing a good amount of people having had fun with N too on their younger years. Just want to add that personally, N v. 1.4 will remain peak to me -- if only at least due to Nreality existing on how even more moddable levels and your ninja is in a way that N++ doesn't do, plus how user created level maps are easier to make and copy, as they are basically long strings of text you can save to a text file without needing online integration whatsoever (and Numa did exist online where you can share maps if you wanted to). Not to mention all the art people have done with the levels, some of which were shown here to be fair.
i love that thumbnail, i didn't even know what to expect and even in the intro, i didn't even know what video i was watching. also never heard of n++ b4, nice introduction!
When I was younger me and my brother, mother, and father would all play N+ and later N++ co-op levels together so this series is so dear to me. The great thing about co-op levels in these were every level is designed for 2 players to beat but with 4 players, it would stick 2 players in each section that was designed for 1 player. This basically meant me and my brother would always try to pair up with one parent each to spread the skill and our parents would struggle but still feel like they were succeeding because we were passing levels. I really miss it and playing it with my family, maybe I’ll try to organize it again when I go home for Christmas this year.
I remember everyone in my middle to high school playing N, and I got pretty nostalgic picking it back up on Steam, the skills I had back then didn't immediately come back, but they did eventually....kinda.
I loved playing the original flash as a kid, then got this for my ps5 recently and it brought back so much nostalgia, this game is the perfect example of less is more
I played this a lot as a kid, good memories. Thanks for the video, I had no idea how much it has to offer, didn't know the history or that it has a community.
Thanks for making this! It was a real blast of nostalgia in the best way. I went by tktktk during the old days of original N. Haven't had the itch to play or design levels in many years, but this does make me want to return to possibly my favorite game series of all time.
1:55 that is just the definition of a field in abstract algebra. It could either be a joke on filling the text field with the definition of a field, or a joke response to the question of “what is your field of expertise?”. In any case, it’s a nerdy field joke.
Dude I love this game and it's amazing to see someone highlighting it like this. I remember playing the original N as a kid and the feeling of finding N++ on the steam store a decade later. Great video!
The beauty of N is that it's both brutalist and brutal, getting this fullspectrum FLASHGAME vibe: this somewhat edgy yet fun world you usually platform and die through. When I played N as a kid it always had this vibe that you are more or less stuck in some brutal training room for superninjas or character signed under a dubious contract and after getting bagged got dropped in a less than humane lab and a guineapig
I played the original flash n back in middle school and managed to get some top 10 runs and even short term world records, discovery of triple and quadruple bounces off of bounce blocks, it was such a good time in my life
My boyfriend has been a long-standing N fan, from the original flash game, to the sequel on the XBOX, to the next sequel on the 3DS (I think) and now to the steam release that has the levels of most games and extra ones for N++. He's also speedran the game a couple of times, but I don't think he's submitted any run.
Genuinely this is one of my favorite platformers of all time, iirc I first saw it as the original N from a NerdCubed video ages ago, then jumped on N++ the moment I realized it existed. Even if I am absolutely terrible at it N++ holds a very special place in my heart, one filled with toggle bombs and gold
When I was in elementary school back in 2006, everyone played “Ninja Game” - and I was the best. My crowning achievement was having one of the boys come up to me (a girl) in class and ask me to pass a level for him. Such a classic.
Im so glad you made this video, im going for 100% and ive had a fair share of rage moments already but the game never feels terrible to play, its a work of art
I didn't even know this ever got a console or handheld release, although I must have seen it somewhere because I always remembered it being caled "N game" or "N+", but the Flash game was the only one I ever played, and boy did I ever. Anyway, thank you for sharing this well written, tightly edited, and very heartfelt love letter to one of the best games of the Flash era. The early to mid 2000s were a beautiful time to exist on the internet, before the promised utopia of Web 2.0 left nothing but a firey dystopian hellscape of affiliate marketing blogs, e-commerce dropshippers, and whatever tf brat summer is.
I had N+ on 360 and DS as a kid and absolutely loved them, but never even realized the differences, or just chalked them up to the same minor ones you'd see in handheld versions of most games. Anyway, I just immediately bought N++ on Steam after finishing this video and I can't wait to revisit this game.
i clicked on this video because i was surprised that someone would make a video about a flash game let alone a video that received this much attention. turns out there are more games in the series than just the one i saw on armor games 8 years ago. great video
Finally! Someone talking about N! Give this game some love, it's absolutely one of the best platformers ever! It's movement system is unbeatable to this day!
the original N game survived every move to a new computer since 2005. Still have a copy on an old MP3 player I used in school. AND I F***** DIDNT KNOW THERE ARE SEQUELS! Thanks so much for the video, I'll soon be addicted one more time! :'D
Best platformer for sure, and some of my favorite devs ever. I apparently was the first person from the EU to order some swag from the shop back when N++ was announced/released - I still have and cherish the handwritten note that they added to my order. 💜
As someone who has been playing any form of N since around 2006, I just wanted to say this video is fantastic!! Within my time play playing the original flash game, I was able to interact with some awesome community members and make some awesome memories from it. I didn't start playing N++ until around mid 2019, but it sure had me in its clutches when I got back into it. I spent the majority of 2020 and 2021 highscoring and such, but I didn't get into it once I started going for 100% after meeting up IRL with golfkid (another community member who has been in it as long as me) for co-op in late 2021. Once I saw the progress we made, that's when I knew 100% was within my reach as I never thought it would be something I would achieve due to the amount of stuff required for it. It wasn't until June 2022 that I achieved it and now I look back on it feeling glad I've done it (plus the devs will send a nice certificate once you achieve it). Going for 100% really cemented this game series as one of my favorites and I'm happy to have been involved with the community. This game is more of a way to kill some time nowadays, but it is still a fun time for me (no matter how long I play for). Finally, the part of the video where you're up late into the night really hits home for me. This happened multiple times to me when highscoring to get the top spot and even when I was going for 100% on some levels (especially some of the secrets/secret levels). Thank you for making this video as it sure did make me walk down memory lane!! :)
Thank for stopping in, I'm so glad this is getting out to the n veterans. Ya'll are the reeason the game has lasted this long, I hope one day to 100% myself but time is fleeting right. Sorry for not reaching out to the community that much, you guys are some amazing people I'm coming to learn
I was a fan of N back in the Flash days. Definitely one of my Top 5. I would hurt my tiny fingers from pressing the keyboard arrows so hard lol. I had no idea there was a N++, will definitely check it out (hopefully with a controller this time, my fingers deserve a break)
oh hey one of my favorite games! oh hey one of my levels was shown! awesome :) thank you for highlighting this amazing game, ive been playing N since the childhood days and 2 years ago I've came back to play N++ and oh my goodness this game is so cool... but also so underrated. a video like this was bound to happen and im glad someone made it, cheers
I used to play N all the time on school computers as a kid. I never knew they made an N+ let alone an N++! Since I found this video, (today) Ive spent hours playing. Thank you for such a cool video.
I remember playing this game as a flash game yearsss ago. Like what... more than a decade ago? To see a video on it in 2024 is insane. Even though it's really nostalgic, I had never won many levels. I just remember the game being stupid hard, which easily filtered me considering I did not have the patience for it back then lol. But I always liked the concept (and stick figures).
I was obsessed with n in college. I played through the whole thing, lost my save, played through it again, looked up where flash game saves ended up and backed it up so I'd never lose it again. I bought a DS to play n+. I just installed n++ on my Steam Deck and am getting back into it. I had a real worlds colliding moment when I saw that quick clip of Mare giving a talk with her laptop propped up on a bunch of Dominion boxes; Dominion is one of my very favorite games ever.
Yoo N++, the game ever! I remember coming across the original N as a kitten and finding it too hard to do just about anything, then years later seeing N++ on Switch and realizing I recognized it from way back. So I bought it (on Steam though) and gave it a try, and I'm still not good, but better than 6-ish-year-old me could have dreamed. There was a time when I played it incredibly often, including when I had downtime at school, but it's been a few years and I'm sure I've rusted up. I really ought to revisit it though, so I can de-rust and maybe clear a couple more episodes. Maybe this video will put me back on that N++ kick!
I loved every second of this. Really creative and fun to watch. Thanks so much for making this video with such care, especially including the brief history which I think is very interesting, (probably mainly since I played n and n+ too.) And 11:10 is extremely relatable 😂
Oh man, I used to play the original N back in middle school. I'd pop open my little laptop and ask anyone in my class to play co-op on lunch break. Great video, I'm gonna buy N++
Played 100% of the original and a good deal of N+. Nobody else seemed to know about them, so nobody understood my excitement when I saw the trailer for N++. Good to see I wasn't alone! Nice vid, man.
Speaking as someone born in the early 90s, N is, to my mind, one of the icons of the golden age of Flash games. It's up there with Submachine as one of *the* games of that era, alongside Fancy Pants Adventure and Samorost.
Man, this awoke something primal in me. A good portion of my childhood was spent playing the original. I had no idea even N+ existed. The only other game that had movement that felt this good was worms armageddon ninja rope levels.
This was freeware that came with my 360 when I got it over a decade ago, been on the drive all this time bit somehow never played. Thank you so much for making me correct that mistake
Thanks so much for this video!

I cut that part of the script because I don't know the game well enough to comment on it, it just felt like dead air. Also none of my friends wanted to play lol :,)
Anytime dude, tracker music is rad as hell. I'm shocked how unknown those guys are, most people just know The Follin Brothers stuff
"You're eventually going to hit a wall."
YUUUP.
Thanks for making this
I'd just like to say, as someone who hasn't thought about N since middle school, thank you. Time to rediscover a childhood favourite.
Good to see that after literally two decades this banger series is still highly appreciated.
N+ was my childhood and now N++ is my present
Thanks for the video!
a classic. thanks for bringing attention to it. games made for the joy of how they feel should be more commonly appreciated
Awesome game and good memories with it
also, the song in the soundtrack Rival Consoles - recovery has been in my playlist by coincidence as of recent, small world.
Dude you just unlocked some memories. I used to play N back in the golden Flash days and I didn't even know it. And to see how far it has all come, nice!
man ive not played this game in like 10 years and i can still identify levels.
"oh i remember that one. i was stuck on it for like 4 hours and wanted to throw my psp out the window. great level."
"hey its the level where i gave up on getting gold badges for every chapter"
what an excellent game
Actually getting N++ because of this video, amazingly done ❤️
Hell yeah and thank you! glhf
Thanks for making this! It was a real blast of nostalgia in the best way. I went by tktktk during the old days of original N. Haven't had the itch to play or design levels in many years, but this does make me want to return to possibly my favorite game series of all time.
Man I love N since it's debut.
1:55 that is just the definition of a field in abstract algebra. It could either be a joke on filling the text field with the definition of a field, or a joke response to the question of “what is your field of expertise?”. In any case, it’s a nerdy field joke.
This game blew my mind as a kid. It was probably the first game I remember where I noticed how good it felt to play. I bet it still holds up
Dude I love this game and it's amazing to see someone highlighting it like this. I remember playing the original N as a kid and the feeling of finding N++ on the steam store a decade later. Great video!
Holy hell this is a tight video... I bought N++ on sale from a recommendation by a friend, definitely putting it higher on my list now
The beauty of N is that it's both brutalist and brutal, getting this fullspectrum FLASHGAME vibe: this somewhat edgy yet fun world you usually platform and die through.
When I played N as a kid it always had this vibe that you are more or less stuck in some brutal training room for superninjas or character signed under a dubious contract and after getting bagged got dropped in a less than humane lab and a guineapig
I remember playing the original n and being so impressed by it. Truly a gem! So timeless
He's also speedran the game a couple of times, but I don't think he's submitted any run.
ohhhh my god n+ on like xbox 360 arcade was one of my favorite games growing up 😭😭😭
Genuinely this is one of my favorite platformers of all time, iirc I first saw it as the original N from a NerdCubed video ages ago, then jumped on N++ the moment I realized it existed.
Popped into my algorithm when I was eating lunch, 10/10 experience. Great food video, keep it up man
tyty, hope you had a good lunch
"As a noise music fan", I love the term "this stuff is a mute button for the noise in your head" - that's perfectly put.
i clicked on this video because i was surprised that someone would make a video about a flash game let alone a video that received this much attention. turns out there are more games in the series than just the one i saw on armor games 8 years ago. great video
Finally! Someone talking about N!
Give this game some love, it's absolutely one of the best platformers ever! It's movement system is unbeatable to this day!
incredible video, awesome pacing, incredible editing, so sick!
The kind of video this kind of game deserves, thank you metanet and skippy7552!
the original N game survived every move to a new computer since 2005.
aw man thats sick, I love when mail has a little bonus like that, makes it so sweet and personal
Bought a copy the moment I finished your video
I had no idea there was a N++, will definitely check it out (hopefully with a controller this time, my fingers deserve a break)
oh hey one of my favorite games! oh hey one of my levels was shown! awesome :) thank you for highlighting this amazing game, ive been playing N since the childhood days and 2 years ago I've came back to play N++ and oh my goodness this game is so cool... but also so underrated. a video like this was bound to happen and im glad someone made it, cheers
happy to deliver, crazy to think n has been around longer than a lot of AAA franchises
Glad to see one of my favorite games from my childhood is getting some mainstream appeal.
N++ is killer, I remember my buddy and I used to play it back in the DAY in 2010 in college algebra 😂😂
Dude I just put this game down after 3500 hours, and now this video's going to drag me right back in 😂 awesome vid
Thanks so much for making this video with such care, especially including the brief history which I think is very interesting, (probably mainly since I played n and n+ too.)
And 11:10 is extremely relatable 😂
Oh man, I used to play the original N back in middle school. I'd pop open my little laptop and ask anyone in my class to play co-op on lunch break.
Great video, I'm gonna buy N++
Played 100% of the original and a good deal of N+. Nobody else seemed to know about them, so nobody understood my excitement when I saw the trailer for N++. Good to see I wasn't alone! Nice vid, man.
Oh shit I wasn't even aware N++ existed. I played so much N back in the day, I gotta get this, thanks for bringing this to my attention 🤓
I think I just found my new game to spend days playing.
Incredible video, high production, informative, entertaining. This channel deserves to blow up ❤
what a masterpiece of a video, i completelly forgot these and I played every single one of them, incredible games.
the n+ demo was my bread and butter in elementary school
Oh wow, N+ was my childhood game. I had no Idea N++ was a thing - thanks for banishing the next few hundred hours of my life lol
This was freeware that came with my 360 when I got it over a decade ago, been on the drive all this time bit somehow never played. Thank you so much for making me correct that mistake
It's so awesome to find a video that voices my thoughts on this game better than I ever could. Phenomenal work, mate.
The soundtrack is also one of the best of any game
