What are the traits of AMM British Bees? Are they native to Britain? I had to requeen a lot of hives this year after winter losses. How will you over winter the nucs?

Yes they are our native bee. They are acclimatised better, so over winter well needing less feed. They are stronger and fight off wasps better. Buckfast and others have been engineered to be a calm bee able to collect lots of honey. AMM hasn’t had its fight taken out of it, so it stands up to the challenge better.
You have to know when to go into the hive though, as they stand up to you more too! Then again, we are trying to pinch their honey and get in their way! I keep both Buckfast and AMM. AMM are a bit more full on and up and at you, but they will last longer in my opinion as they are used to our weather.
I over winter in polynuc and in wooden hives. It depends on the strength of the colony going in. I also make up early splits in the spring too.

If you’d like to try some AMM we do sell them, sometimes they aren’t on the website, but we often have them to order in advance.

Thanks but, I'm doing Caucasian queens now I got from Bob Bennie. They are gentle bees and I like them. This is my first year with them. I suspect it might be an issue importing queens to the USA.@@stauntonparkbees
