The “dum dum dum daaa dah” they did at 4:50 was a reference to “Motown Philly” by Boys 2 Men, as noticed by Sara and Sean.

I'm always sad when people miss that. Most do. They do the same thing in shallow about 3/4 of the way through they give a little nod to lady Gaga's Bad Romance on which I'm sure goes missed by most people too.

One that most people miss is their nods to Walk Off The Earth (WOTE) in PTX’s version of “Somebody That I Used to Know.” If you want to catch the Easter Eggs in that video, go give a watch to WOTE’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” (aka “Six Peeps, One Guitar), and WOTE’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Their covers are brilliant, even enough to get booked for a Halftime performance in the playoffs, and enough to impress PTX enough to lace the Gotye cover’s video with plenty of visual and audio goodies to find for people who are fans of WOTE. Shawn taught them well ;)

I'll note that judge Sara Bareilles had issues with the producers too. They wanted her to be The Sexy Chick and kept nit-picking at her performance and appearance onscreen.

I love that your taste in music is so varied... it doesn't matter whether you're listening to Pentatonix, Home Free or Voiceplay, I don't think I've ever heard you say "Naah, never heard of that one" of any of the covers they've done. And yeah, Kirstie lit the blue touchpaper and exploded in this one, didn't she? 😁

Hi. So to get what’s up going forward. Each week the judges decide who moves forward. But after # 12 it’s thrown open to America to vote.
For now on they earn this. Every other group is older and much larger. Fun fact Kirstie is the only female to ever win the sing off !

    • @richardwilson5560
      @richardwilson5560 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Half right. We got to vote every week during the commercials. (Well, I did not see the actual live, so I could not vote. I would have been 2 hours late.) Somehow the judges mattered more in the vote, maybe being half the total or something? The last one was up to the watchers. (Sounds so much cooler then coach potatoes.)

The number of groups eliminated each week varied. They started out with too many, 16, to cope with in one episode, so they put them into two separate groups for the first two weeks of taping ( four weeks of broadcasts). In the first day of taping, they had both groups of eight perform one song each, and eliminated one group after four of them performed. So they went from 16 to 12 that first day. Those performances were broadcast as two separate episodes. Then, the second week, the groups sang two songs and then one was eliminated from each group, also broadcast as two episodes, so they went from 12 to 10. The two groups merged and the 10 remaining groups competed against each other starting with that third week of taping. However, they went back to eliminating two groups in that taping, one each after five groups performed, so they went from 10 to 8. Only then did they start eliminating only one group per week for the rest of the tapings.

  • @kristinhowk6465

Season 3 was the Sing-Off’s largest season, with 16 groups competing. 1 group was eliminated per week, with 3 groups making the finale. So PTX had 12 judged performances, and then 2 un-judged for the finale. Contrast with Home Free who had 6 or 7 judged performances.

I thought you'd like this one! It was just a lot of fun, especially after the intense Love Lockdown. Now they were getting to the point where they became a very tight group and they rarely got any more criticisms, even from Ben! The next one is one of my favorites, so I'm looking forward to your reaction to that one, too. By the way, there are 14 weeks, including the finale. The show started with 16 groups, and one was dropped each week, except for the finale, when there were 3 final groups, and two of those groups were dropped leaving the winner.

That's a new comment. Nobody in any reviews earlier had said they were mad at the show then? They had alot of help from the show starting with Ben Bram. The show did not want to get involved with any potential political controversy. This showed up in the last regular performance when they visited the Trevor Project and the show or network scrubbed any discussion of homosexuality from that clip which given the mission of the project of suicide prevention in that group among youth was pretty odd.
They couldn't be that mad because winning the show was why they were able to have the career they have in the first place.

Let’s try not to get too many thumbs on this comment, as I don’t want to ruin an illusion for anyone. I may just delete this as soon as you respond, Matts. For anyone reading this who shouldn’t be, spoiler alert.
Seriously, if you aren’t Matts Reacts, stop scrolling, or you may find yourself regretting it, or hating me or Matts for making or breaking an awesome illusion. Go away, unless you already know (or have an idea) of what I’m going to say, and even then, probably still just go away.
Seriously, you have been warned. If you want to retain an unshattered image of these videos, stop scrolling.
Hey, Matts Reacts, I caught you slipping on this one. I appreciate the illusion you’ve created here, so I don’t want to call you out publicly, but I do want to let you know where I caught proof of what I already suspected. I’m gonna keep it vague, still, but I knew that you didn’t know as many songs as you seemed to know in some previous medleys. You’ve been solid, for the most part, at your portrayal of the transitions catching you off guard, but there was one line in this video that wasn’t during a transition that you slipped up on. You mouthed along with a word that wasn’t in the original, twice, which breaks the illusion you’re going for. “A girl like you should wear a warning” was originally “A guy like you.” At 5:23, you very clearly mouth “girl.”
This all being said, I love what you’re doing here, it’s very entertaining. It’s disingenuous, but so is most good TV. Even if this gets out, don’t let the haters get you down, you put on a great show, and I know what goes into making each video. I hope I deterred enough people from reading this. I also still like the genuine stuff a bit better, but the illusion of genuine is pretty good, and takes a lot more effort. That’s why I wanted you to know where a mistake was made that could ruin the show for people. It could also be interesting to see a channel that doesn’t care if people find out what goes into each video, and allows debate in the comments about what’s real or fake, and whether or not you research anything beforehand. I’m suspecting that you barely do any, you’ve just already been a fan long enough to know quite a few of their songs. Knox Hill is another decent reactor that puts a lot of effort into making himself look super well-versed on topics he’s “hearing for the first time.” It’s good entertainment. I’d rather have a response from you confirming my suspicions, and then I’ll delete this, or even just a “;)” to let me know I’m correct, followed by *you* deleting this. A very short reply should still show up on my notifications, even once this thread is deleted.
