So before this performance, they were all exhausted and Scott had lost his voice due to straining over so many days! In their last rehearsal before they came out, Scott couldn't even talk😢, and they thought that they wouldn't be able to perform and that this was going to be their last performance before they went home. But they came out anyways and you can hear how soft Scott starts. But then you can see as the song progresses, Scott gains his voice and the others also gain confidence that they can pull this off. But you can truly see Scott straining and giving his all, especially in the last part💜 Also, the network wanted Mitch to not use his real voice as they felt it was too high and 'feminine', so for this final performance, they had Mitch sing in his natural register as a final f*** you to the producers, and he delivered the first Mitch slap😂
Can’t tell you how fast I clicked when I saw this. This is the performance where the viewing audience determined who made it to the final 3. No other performances counted toward winning, although there were 2 more. So they definitely left it all out there on this one! ❤️ You should also check out I Need Your Love which PTX performed as the returning champions on Season 4 (Home Free’s season) It’s also the first time the judges got to hear Avi sing by himself.
Freakin Scott!!! He is just a BEAST vocally, then in pops Mitch with that crystal clear amazing voice, add Kirstie with all that power behind the song + Meat and potatoes just dominating. Crazy performance. Just the beginning also.
The worlds first Mitch Slap!!! This was the deciding performance, America voted after this performance and the results were announced in the finale. There are 2 non judged performances during the finale. Please also react to their return to The Sing Off to do I Need Your Love.
This one always gets me so emotional. You can just hear that they gave it their all and left everything that they had out on the stage practically begging for America to vote for them to make it to the finale.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but early on in their career, Kirstin said in an interview that when they made it onto the show, she burst into tears because she was thinking that the world was going to get to hear Mitch's voice.
It is interesting because the producer's of The Sing Off discouraged them from allowing Mitch to sing lead in any of the songs. They were worried that the ratings would suffer and while they didn't say it, clearly there was some homophobia going on behind the scenes. They group really wanted to have the opportunity to place Mitch in the spotlight and this was that opportunity. Following The Sing Off when they started posting their videos on TH-cam, they tried to feature Mitch in many of the songs because they really wanted him to have the spotlight. When all are asked who is the best singer in the group they all say Mitch because not only the beauty of his voice but the ease with which he sings and moves between his registers. Mitch is a once in a generation singer and I am so happy for him. The bullying and abuse he took from other kids in grade school, middle school and high school could have resulted in a very different person but Mitch is genuinely kind, modest and such a handsome young man. I am thrilled for his success as well as all the other members. They are all amazing and it is truly a gift from God that the stars aligned and they came together to create music.
and they did just that: “become more great after time”! Chills every time I watch this, and I’ve watched it A LOT. THANK GOODNESS they finally thumbed their noses at the show producers and had Mitch do his thing front and center!!! 💜
So now you know, Saeed, why so many of us have "Dog Days" as our #1 favorite performance. So powerful! Scott's lead, Mitch's solo, the pounding rhythm section, Kirstie and Mitch sounding like a whole backup choir as they supported Scott--the goosebumps never fail me, every single time I watch this performance. I've watched all the performances by all 16 groups in Season 3, and no one else dominated the stage the way PTX did with "Dog Days" (though the runner-up Dartmouth Aires came close). Thanks so much for doing this series, Saeed! You should watch the finale, with the announcement of the winner. I still get tense watching it, even though I know how it turns out!
I definitely understand! So good! What an amazing series. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for joining me. Will see if i can find that video. Have a great day!
I have also watched the full show, with all of the performances. PTX never really had a bad night (although some of the performances were weaker than others); they were always consistently strong. But I would say that they did NOT win every night. There was some legit strong competition on the show that season. Pentatonix absolutely deserved their win, and they were definite front-runners from pretty early on, but they weren't a shoe-in; they had to work for it. Coming up with what I consider their strongest performance on "Dog Days are Over," though, was the knock-out blow that put any doubts to rest and sealed the victory.
This is the last performance that was voted on. The winner had already been chosen by the finale; it just wasn't announced until that episode. The groups all performed with one of the panel and Nick. It was the set up of the show that Mitch wasn't used, and the producers really encouraged them not to feature Mitch because he was openly gay. This performance was kind of a "screw you" to the producers. Notice they all turned their backs when Mitch started singing.
Is this actually true or urban legend? Mitch had solos in many of their performances. Plus, I believe his father stated he had severe stage fright during the competition. He was barely 19.
@mel3268 I believe the producers discouraged him from singing higher aka his normal singing voice because they believed he sounded too gay, not discouraged him from singing any solo parts at all as i think it was mentioned in a superfruit vid/stream. I do know for a fact they cut out pentatonix supporting the Trevor project which is for queer youths and only included the parts that didn't mention anything queer. The fact that Mitch wasn't exactly looking for attention and wasn't too confident probably contributed to the lower voice he sang in.
@@mel3268 Watch the vid where they went to the Trevor project. Not only did they not mention that it's for prevention of suicide in specifically GLBT youth -- from the description in the segment, it sounds like it's for all youth in general -- but if you look at a big sign on the wall of the Trevor Project offices, there's clearly a piece of paper or something stuck over part of the sign. They covered over the part that says they're about GLBT youth, for the filming of that segment. The production team shoved the whole *Trevor Project* into the closet. :( And you doubt they did it to Mitch? Also, in the Superfruit vid where Mitch and Scott are commenting on their Sing Off performances, they mention over and over how the Sing Off team was using costuming to make Mitch look more masculine -- i.e., less gay. "Mascing him up." Every time the boys say "There's Masc-Mitch! Hi Masc-Mitch!" they're making fun of that whole effort of the production team, acting through the costume team, to make Mitch look less gay. It's not just a fannish rumor.
As others have said, Scott's voice was shot before this--I believe he ended up getting a steroid shot to help him even be able to sing at all. Their rehearsal for this one was a mess. So you can see as the song progresses, and especially after Mitch's solo, they realize that they still have a chance to win, and gain confidence and give it their all. The other performances after this one don't count in the competition. "Without You" was kind of a mess because they couldn't hear each other properly. Then they sing "Una Noche" with Nick. Then comes the elimination of the 3rd place group (Urban Method) with their swan song, and the final announcement of the winner--just Dartmouth Aires and Pentatonix left. That announcement is fun to watch---Mitch and Kirstin are sooo nervous. They sing their victory song "The Eye of the Tiger" as that show ends. There is also a video out there from a Christmas special after that final show that includes PTX and the winners of the previous 2 seasons. They come back as guests to sing "I Need Your Love" on the finale of the next season, Season 4, but it's TWO years later. The show got cancelled for a year in part due to the controversy around the cancellation of PTX's record contract. You can really see how much more polished and confident they've become in those 2 years. The last "season" of the Sing Off was #5, but it was really just a single show. PTX come back then also and sang a Christmas medley. As far as their ages, Scott was 19 through most of the season, but by this performance he had turned 20 (his birthday is in September), but he wasn't going to argue with Sara. Kirstin was 19 throughout. Mitch was 18 when the show started, his birthday is the end of July, so he turned 19 during the course of the show.
Scott said after the show that he'd lost his voice for this show's rehearsal and didn't know if he could sing the lead. You could hear him push himself - the crackle in his voice came through stronger than normal - but they **all** performed their hearts out. Avi's post performance interview made my heart happy. Yes, I voted for them to be in the finale.
I have been waiting for your reaction to this particular episode. Mitch finally broke out, from what I believe was going on behind the scenes was the producers weren't keen on Mitch's high range and so this surprised all the judges. Ha, Ha...PTX rules!!!

yep, we voted too. it was obvious certainly from Love Lockdown, but really from the very beginning, that they were going to win, this was just the cherry on top. Saw them on their first 3 tours. They've come so far since them, and it's so great to see them all happy adults.

It always brings good memories to see this performance. On the Evolution of Pentatonix medley they do in their concerts, Mitch sings a variation of his Dog Days solo.
This was the last performance that counted for the votes from the viewers got to call in votes. The finale show was the top 3 groups doing they're "goodbye" performance. Honestly, it's a good thing the first of their finale performance didn't count b/c they had numerous mic problems and definitely weren't up to par. The second finale performance was a shared performance with Nick Lachey and I remember, at the time, it made me uncomfortable. He and Kirstie did a rather risque duet that was creepy. You should watch the winner announcement. It's fun to watch them react. Then, they came back the next season to guest on the finale, and then two years later for a Christmas performance.

This performance exemplifies how Scott has been the heart and soul of this group since the beginning. They pushed so hard after struggling in dress rehearsal. I’ve seen this literally 5o times and it still makes me emotional.
The video announcing the winner still makes me nervous. Kirstie and Mitch, and maybe Avi, I can't remember, look like they are about to be sick. I am so glad I didn't see these until a few years ago.
I read that Scott lost voice and was afraid they would not be able to sing. But he came through with that amazing voice. I believe they have 2 more shows after this. It was already decided after this show did not count toward them winning. Those this song, I believe is the reason the world got around them and voted them to win!!
Here's one more performance. I think it's the finale: th-cam.com/video/NKhVGz3doNc/w-d-xo.html Oh, and Nick reminded me on this one, they do sing a song with Nick on the finale. I'll list it when I find it. Didn't take me long....th-cam.com/video/5BvxL0cIejo/w-d-xo.html
No one noticed that it was 'not' Kevin doing those 'train whistles it was Avi doing his incredible 'over tone singing' You must check out some clips of him doing it...one is when he does The Lion Sleeps Tonight for the audience lol.
This one put me over the top…with you! Great reaction, I just recently discovered you. Now I’ve subed and am in the process of watching many of your past reactions…thanks for this!!!
The chances of Pentatonix happening again are almost non-existent. Having just one really successful person come out of a public regular (not just arts) high school is really rare. Having Scott, Mitch and Kirstie be in school at the same time and be that successful may not ever happen again.
Their musical department at Martin high school must’ve been really good. Mitch’s good friend Dylan from the same school also has success in music. I also once watched the Martin high production of Sweeney Todd that Mitch was in before it got taken off of TH-cam and the quality of the show was so much better than any other high school production I’ve seen of a musical. There were so many good performers and singers in that whole show. I know their choir teacher just retired and good morning America did a piece on her being so loved by all her students and showed how well she taught music.
I remember watching the season when it 1st came out and I literally would save every performance that they did and I made my husband watch them with me. It was so clear to me from day 1 when they performed that they were going to win! If I remember correctly I think there's 1 more performance it's not a competition performance but they just saying give me just 1 night with Nick lachey Who is a singer in his own right he was in a boy band called 98°. If I remember correctly the performance is just, all right.
The missing ( final) performance is th-cam.com/video/NKhVGz3doNc/w-d-xo.html which is followed with th-cam.com/video/5BvxL0cIejo/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUSc2luZyBvZmYgcGVudCBuaWNr
😂 I am so happy I only started listening to PTX after this reality show competition 😂 it's definitely not my favourite format, but they killed it 😊 Another acapella group I LOVE that is set up more like a chamber choir that does popular music is called Voctave. They did an INCREDIBLE mashup of 3 Disney Love Songs featuring Kirstin from PTX and her fiance at the time, Jeremy Lewis. It's SO GOOD 😍😍😍 th-cam.com/video/zLMeDUBKmBs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=23WBt8fUz8_15K6Y I also cannot recommend Walk Off The Earth highly enough. They are easily the best cover band in existence (vocal and INCREDIBLE instrumental arrangements) and they have fantastic songs of their own. I see you've done some Post Modern Jukebox. You will not be sad if you do more. They are also fantastic 😊

Have a great day.
I LOVE this!!!!
Poor Scott's voice sounded tired to me compared to earlier performances!
Make sure do the episode a year later when PTX came back to perform!
Will do!
@@PtxXtp I went to another school in the same county and their fine arts program is excellent. I was a band kid and their bands were always excellent.
Thanks!
Wait for it...
🤞Hoping you'll do the live performance of I Need Your Love from season 4!!!
Will do!
😂 I am so happy I only started listening to PTX after this reality show competition 😂 it's definitely not my favourite format, but they killed it 😊
Another acapella group I LOVE that is set up more like a chamber choir that does popular music is called Voctave. They did an INCREDIBLE mashup of 3 Disney Love Songs featuring Kirstin from PTX and her fiance at the time, Jeremy Lewis.
It's SO GOOD 😍😍😍

I also cannot recommend Walk Off The Earth highly enough. They are easily the best cover band in existence (vocal and INCREDIBLE instrumental arrangements) and they have fantastic songs of their own.
I see you've done some Post Modern Jukebox. You will not be sad if you do more. They are also fantastic 😊
I have checked out one Voctave performance, but will do more and definitely more Post Modern Jukebox as well 😃
I get goosebumps watching you watching them.
That was magnificent!

Sorry, alså, but this is so bad. Really. WFS, watch Florence. I mean, really.
No apologies needed, everyone has their own preferences.
I enjoy this a capella version a lot, but not everyone has to.
@@SaeedReacts. I agree, hun. All to hens pleasure. But, I mean, if you want to see a good cover, fi, like th-cam.com/video/DX0ItgAbRpU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gGzvASgXIkM36lLq
