It's not the same gun, the one in Republic Commando is an energy weapon, but the one in battlefront is actually a projectile weapon. Even the wiki mentions that they looks incredibly similar. So if I hadn't looked it up I'd have thought the same thing. Seems they just took it's design and made it into a "normal" shotgun
The “space shotgun” is exactly that. It makes its first on-screen appearance in the classic game “Star Wars: Republic Commando”. It uses small disks made of a small energy capsule that contain metal shot. It’s most commonly by slavers and bounty hunters due to its reliability, low cost of maintenance and ammo, and being unable to be deflected by energy shields.
Yes, it fires a superheated slug. Originally it did anyway, the BF2 version is a scattergun variety if I recall, which is the star warsy way of referring to bird and buckshot. The Calico was actually used as the main weapon of the "Stormtroopers" in the movie "Spaceballs". That was the full rifle, I believe. I wonder if its inclusion as an SMG in the Battlefront games is a nod to that, or if it's a coincidence.
Since the Calico was present in the Prequel Trilogy, I think George Lucas, or at the very least a member of the blaster design team, added the blaster as a nod to Spaceballs.

It's cool how you can see the similarities of the guns in which Star Wars took inspiration from. You can see a whole load of references, for example the standard issue heavy blaster for the Galactic Empire (the DLT-19), is heavily similar to the late Maschinegewehr-34
4:00 Quick correction : in the films, the DLT-19D variant is from Rogue One where it's used by Imperial Death Troopers. It's just given to the First Order in the game for lack of a sniper rifle of their own.

The shotgun shown in the video was actually based off of the shotgun in the game Star Wars Republic Commando. It’s also shown in Star Wars the Clone Wars. The version in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) is in The Mandalorian. Other shotguns are also in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005). Also the way I think the shotguns work in Star Wars is that the ammo is a hybrid of blaster and slug. Shooting slug ammo incased in plasma. Plus in Republic Commando the shotgun uses shells. The only reason there is no ammo in Battlefront 2 (2017) is just for gameplay reasons.

The shotgun is actually a trandoshan ACP shotgun, I believe it first appeared in the republic commando game. The player character remarks how it is a plasma weapon that looks like a slug thrower, and says the iconic line “I didn’t think lizards were that nostalgic.”
Very fun to watch, thanks alot Jonathan =) Btw. 9:50 is in fact a scattergun (so yes a shotgun) from the Republic / Clonewars Era, I believe first seen in Republic Commando used by Trandoshan slavers (and then promptly used against the by the Commandos) and yes it's using slugs shaved from a block of metal from what I remember.
That shotgun is from the Star Wars Republic Commando game, where the main character comments that he didn’t think anyone used projectile weapons anymore. It’s used originally by the Trandoshan faction (lizard people like Bossk) who were allied to the CIS (droid army guys).

There is some Stalker's mod that included some weapons to the game, mods like anomaly for example, there is some majors change to the gunplay, it would be nice to see him analyzing.
Fun fact is that the Imperial Repeated (tho had different firing modes and some visual difference) dates back to 1995's Star War Dark Forces. Could fire insanely fast but also in a triangular sorta pattern (3 shots, on in each corner of a triangle). One of my fav. weapons from that game next to the E-11 and the Plasma Assault Cannon of the Dark Troopers.
Hey Gamespot, just wanted to say that the "Space Shotgun" mentioned around 9:40 was actually first introduced in Starwars Republic Commando! Neat, huh?
The shotgun first appearance I remember is from the republic commando video game, it's used by the mercenary enemies on one level and you can pick them up
I still want to see him analyze Borderlands 2 and 3's weapons (if only to see his mind break from the positioning of the barrels on some of the weapons.
The weapon at 9:11 was first seen in the Republic Commando game. It's a Accelerated Charged Particle (APC) Array Gun. I was designed by the Trandoshians (Bossk's race) and they disguised it as a projecticle weapon.
Definitly would like to see Guns from the Bioshock series espacially Infinite since its my favourite. Also Killing Floor would be intresting to see. Far cry 3 Blood Dragon i dont know how much is in there thats intresting but still a suggestion.
I believe the Shotgun shown is based off of the Accelerated Charged Particle Array Gun from Republic Commando. It's basically a Spaz-12 that someone rotated the grip 90 degrees. In that game is was extremely effective against organic targets as it is half way between a Blaster and a Slug Thrower. It is wielded by the Trandoshans. "Shotguns? I didn't think anyone used projectile weapons anymore."- RC-1138
The shotgun seems to be based at least SOMEWHAT on the ACP Array Gun from Republic Commando, where it's said that they're explicity energy weapons designed to operate like slugthrowers. The game designers really went all out in making a Space Shotgun, you even get little single-shot energy cells that Boss (your player character) ejects after firing. Really nostalgic for me personally, as it was my first proper FPS Shotgun.
The DLT-19D was actually more of a modified special forces precision rifle when it was in Imperial service as we see them being exclusively used by the Death Troopers in Rogue One.
The shotgun was introduced in another star wars game, Republic Commando. One of the clones even says he's surprised anyone still uses projectile weapons like them anymore. So yeah, it's an in-universe thing but the equivalent of someone in the real world using a muzzle-loaded gun.
That shotguns first appearance was actually in Republic Commando, as a trandoshan weapon. It was an energy weapon that was configured to look like a slug thrower out of nostalgia
I 100% porcent agree with what he said 6:47 , when the new star wars movies came out, i was hoping that the newer gen weapons would be just modern weapons getting the star wars treatment, but sadly it wasnt the case for many, though, some did, and i love those few that did.
So shotgun-type blasters appeared in the original battlefront, they had 'flak' throwers in Jedi Knight, there was one in Republic Commando which is in fact this same model (it's what it's based on exactly), and more recently there was a blaster version in Mandalorian. :)
I want to say that the shotgun was a reference to the "Accelerated Charged Particle Array Gun " used in Star Wars: Republic Commando by the Trandoshans, a lizardlike piratey race that you fight in game. The gun itself is an 'energy weapon that looks like a slugthrower.' which would explain the lack of shells ejecting.
I'd say it's the same exact gun only made of universally used opposed being a trando exclusive weapon, it kind of makes sense in the role it's used as close range shock trooper weapon used when storming a position.
The shotgun is from Republic Commando, it is an energy weapon used by Trandoshans in that game. "Hmm. An energy weapon that looks like a slugthrower. I didn't think lizards were that nostalgic."
The Shotgun looking weapon is actually a weapon from Star Wars: Republic Commandos, it uses these thin little battery things as ammo which you can kinda see behind the pump. Its an Energy Shotgun in both games

There's some weapons that are unique to Battlefront 2015, including a slugthrower scattergun which is a better counterpart to the cycler rifle.
Fun fact: The shotgun in the Star wars univers apered in Star wars republic commando and had somekinda Cardrige that are actully ejected
There is some Stalker's mod that included some weapons to the game, mods like anomaly for example, there is some majors change to the gunplay, it would be nice to see him analyzing.
Yeah i would Love to See that.
The complete Mod comes to mind.
Please react to Wolfenstein guns, preferably the newer ones. I mean, we've tried fictional and futuristic, so why not alternate history?
9:16 the "slug thrower" was in republic commando, first showing up in the second mission, the trandoshans liked to use them.
BL2 Vladof AR gatling barrels make absolutely no sense
@@campknox3304 That's what I mean.
The weapon at 9:11 was first seen in the Republic Commando game. It's a Accelerated Charged Particle (APC) Array Gun. I was designed by the Trandoshians (Bossk's race) and they disguised it as a projecticle weapon.
Considering we recently got a halo infinite multiplayer reveal… maybe you could get John to review some Halo weapons?
5:10 Nice timing of the guy falling and somebody slamming a door.
7:04 in my opinion this looks a little bit like a Lewis gun.
When shooting in game you can see where the pan fits on top and there is also a lewis gun behind him in the studio
I believe the Lewis is actually there for the T-21, but yeah I can see what you mean
2:55 yeah part of their balancing was making the last Assault gun you unlock have the exact same stats as the beginner assault gun
Jonathan sounds so sad when he says “In this case, fantasy” 😂
The shotgun was also in The Clone Wars. It was used by a few of the Trandoshians, who kidnapped Ashoka during the second battle of Felutia.
Halo human weapons
Rainbow six siege
Far cry 2/5
Fallout 4
Black ops 2
Payday 2
The shotgun seems to be based at least SOMEWHAT on the ACP Array Gun from Republic Commando, where it's said that they're explicity energy weapons designed to operate like slugthrowers. The game designers really went all out in making a Space Shotgun, you even get little single-shot energy cells that Boss (your player character) ejects after firing.
Really nostalgic for me personally, as it was my first proper FPS Shotgun.
Weapons and malfunctions of guns in Far Cry 2 please....
Our boy Jon laying good content, someone give this man an award already ?
I’d like to see him analyse some of the many guns from the borderlands game series
Bl3 would be best it has the best guns.
seeing Calico as a star wars weapon is something i didn't realise was a thing i needed
I'd love to see Payday 2 or Titanfall!
The DLT-19D was actually more of a modified special forces precision rifle when it was in Imperial service as we see them being exclusively used by the Death Troopers in Rogue One.
It would be nice to see him react to Rainbow six siege or Payday 2 guns
I love that he knows even the fictional arms manufacturers with that reference to its "BlasTech heritage"
Do the Serious Sam series!
The shotgun was introduced in another star wars game, Republic Commando. One of the clones even says he's surprised anyone still uses projectile weapons like them anymore. So yeah, it's an in-universe thing but the equivalent of someone in the real world using a muzzle-loaded gun.
I'm pretty sure the gun he couldn't recognize is based on a lewis machine gun.
That’s what I was thinking
That shotguns first appearance was actually in Republic Commando, as a trandoshan weapon. It was an energy weapon that was configured to look like a slug thrower out of nostalgia
I’d like to see him analyze the weapons of Killing Floor 2
I 100% porcent agree with what he said 6:47 , when the new star wars movies came out, i was hoping that the newer gen weapons would be just modern weapons getting the star wars treatment, but sadly it wasnt the case for many, though, some did, and i love those few that did.
The scattergun has a slug variant too.
Also, Arma 3 when
So shotgun-type blasters appeared in the original battlefront, they had 'flak' throwers in Jedi Knight, there was one in Republic Commando which is in fact this same model (it's what it's based on exactly), and more recently there was a blaster version in Mandalorian. :)
Please react to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. weapons, from Misery or Anomaly mod, if possible.
Those animations are kinda not the best, maybe try Gunslinger or Boomsticks and sharpsticks.
Man, you should do Bioshock, all the three of 'em
I’d like to see him do Halo
I want to say that the shotgun was a reference to the "Accelerated Charged Particle Array Gun
" used in Star Wars: Republic Commando by the Trandoshans, a lizardlike piratey race that you fight in game.
@@SampoPaalanen hell yea, that's it
The shotgun is from Republic Commando, it is an energy weapon used by Trandoshans in that game.
