This has been a problem for far too long, way before the pandemic. People like Pierogi and Kitboga have been trying their best to deter these criminals, but more people need to get on their case.
The scammers shown in this video speak Hindi and target victims within India. They are involved in phone-based scamsThose that Pierogi and others deal with usually operate out of call centres that are located in cities like Kolkata and Delhi and they target people in other countries.

@@hoopoe_ I guess my point is they are all scamming people out of money, and this is a problem that really needs to be addressed on a wider scale. More PSAs need to be made, more people who take it seriously and crack down. Unfortunately, with the call center operations, many times they are tied to politicians, so they get tipped off on when there will be a raid, making it that much more difficult.

as an actual IT professional from the subcontinent (Bengal,not exactly india, but we do have the same accent), I had never had to contact any foreign people.....except one case, a lady in singapore. and that call was preceded by days of email exchange from my official company account. So yeah, do that. Because those of us who are really in the business would never call you out of the blue.

As an Indian let me tell you one thing, this is a parallel industry and is supported and promoted by the political leaders. They ensure to not change the laws to make this parallel industry thrive.

As a roule of thumb, I never share my personal data through the phone, especially if it's not me who initiated the phone call, especially if office worker has Indian accent, especially if person tries to rush me or threatens me in any way.

There are more places in India where small groups indulge in such fraud..but not restricted to India.. mzny countries like Nigeria is famius. Romania also know..we regularly get calls from UK numbers for jobs etc... Turkey , Phillipines are other boiler rooms for nefarious hacking cum fraud schemes ...

Take it easy. News channels have been covering scammers from every corner of the globe. I saw a documentary about a country ranking as #1 in romance scam and I burst out laughing. Reason is I know romantic lyrics from that country beat all other countries I have checked. Lyrics like a lady saying "When you first met me you said you were plucking out your teeth for me. But you lied to me". And that is even a warm up. I said to myself, those scammers are melting the hearts of their victims and melting their monies along with it.
