Regarding soldiers and beds: soldiers use the bed that is specified in their military schedule. By default, I think the "ready" plan is set to sleep in barracks, while the others are set to sleep in private rooms. But you can change those presets and even create own custom schedules. In addition to training/station settings, the schedule always has two additional options - one for bed usage, and one for staying equipped/unequipped. A tutorial on the military schedule would be really helpful for many people, since it's quite overwhelming for new players. The schedule is what your soldiers are doing while not under an active order, and what they will go back to after an active order is released/done. You can do really advanced stuff with it, like "4 of you always guard the main entrance burrow, 3 of you train and 3 partol the walls". You can even set specific Dorfs to do the tasks.
Use enemies captured in cages to help fight off sieges. Every time the goblins attack, i flick the lever on the caged elves, when the elves attack, i flick the switch on the caged goblins. I then flick the lever on the caged ettin who is easier to recapture.
I heard you can trap forgotten beast with cage traps if they are webbed. It is hard but first somehow (maybe with some delicious sacrifical noble burrowed in the room) must capture a FB with webbing abilty and trap inside a room with fortification walls so they can shoot web but not hurt anybody. After this make traps around this room and if any more FB comes make it go around this room and get webbed and step into a cage trap. It is only worth all this if you want some FB zoo (or a pitfight for attackers) in your fort. It is much easier to kill them with traps/soldiers than capture them this way.
You can trap forgotten beasts if the cage trap has a giant spider web on the trap when they step on it! Takes quite some doing to set that up but it is possible.
On number 7...they feel guilty while being confined! I cant do that to my digidwarf dogs. =( Any solutions to make my dogs love the chain setup? Or perhaps just use non dog sentries? Unsure. Why dogs in particular?
I got a trog hiding in a smoothed shaft right now avoiding the smasher... The pit being next to the smasher edge wall allowed them climb right up was problematic for me. Had to make sure it dropped into it right. Also a two z level tall drop room. Allows them not to jump. And I always put cage traps coming out of my cage room.
I've started playing DF, some aspects of the game make it almost unplayable, such as the crafting and trying to get specific items made like jewel encrusted statues and others. No many specifics in the stock interface. Tooke a while to make a underground water supply, built a very large underground resivour and tapped into a rive to do it. Once it was done I was thinking I should really build a wall Infront of the watergate or what ever it's called, I got lost in my craftsmanship and next thing I know there's message that a lever had been switched and water came pouring intoy base so I had to save scum. I knew it was going to happen tho lol. Just shows the enemy is anywhere and everywhere.

Thanks for your comment! Some good insights and inspirations there. Cheers =)

Man I love ideas like these xD
also about the bridge thing: only 1dorf can build it so it can take a while for 1dorf to haul 60+ materials :) but if u got the time
Use blocks

Gonna dig into this game soon and I'm sure I'll be binging these top tier tutorial vids. 👍

More limits to add to bridge roofing. You cant build on top of them.
Love the ideas 🙏
