His technique was so good that no matter how loud he played it always sounded musical. This is simply overwhelmingly electrifying. Bravo Maestro Horowitz!!!
The switches in dynamics that he does are out of this world. Fortissimo to pianissimo ... sometimes even fff to ppp just insane!!! And the feel! The feel he has for each piano composition he chooses to play is brilliant , unique, dramatic, and grasps the essence of the piece better than anyone. The best romantic pianist ever to walk on earth.
Fun fact: A young pianist Alexey Sultanov met his future wife cellist Dace Abele on a roof where they and other students had to listen to the concert because of a lack of free seats and even saved her from falling off while it was rather rainy and slippery!
Sad story! Alexis Sultanov won the van cliburn completion when he plaid the Mephistopheles Waltz he played so powerfuly that he broke a string! Can you imagine! He refused the CEO second place winning of the Chopin competition which he should have won and died from multiple strokes!! What a shame!!
This is always the first piece I show to someone to teach them about classical music and it is always this recording, Scriabin was such a legendary composer and horowitz an incredible pianist

In general I find this obsession with having to have a video along with the piece-(especially in H's case since he was a old man)-does him a disservice. Not that there aren't some fabulous performances from him on later videos, but his greatest work is on audio alone.

I think Horowitz's playing of this scrabin is on a different level. It literally took the work to the next level. It was a perfect performance from the beginning to the end. After listening to this song, I only listen to Horowitz's Horowitz must be God.
I'm a pianist but can't understand how he could get the same tone sounding so different. Sometimes it sound like he plays with pitch a bit too, Moscov recital has a bit of it too. This shouldn't be possible, at least i don't know how he made it without touching strings...
@@oscarmiguelhernandezgiron4724 Thanks, teacher's suggestion makes sense. What i heard was sounding similar to changing pitch of one note, as when you vibrate guitar string up/back down. I listened several times more without hearing it anymore. Maybe it was just dropout from mp3 (mistake in software), can't find another reason. Sometimes recording to analogue tape does similar things due to harmonic distortion and other causes, although not as pronounced. Imagination also does interesting things :) Whatever it was, most important thing is we enjoy his playing and learn from it.

Encuentro esta interpretación con un comienzo pacífico (mas allá de lo desgarradora y melancólica es la melodía) que poco a poco escala hacia a un climax caótico y opresivo hasta finalmente resolver. Es sencillamente maravillosa esta interpretación!!

Back then, I felt the urge to learn to play the piano like him, It was the first piece that brought my attention to sophisticated piano literature. I tried a lot to learn this, finally succeeded in 2020 [ not as good as horowitz though !]
