      Just bought the Harbor Freight one Monday, my old one set up for a year and wouldn’t fire. It was about 10 years old and I rarely oiled it, all it needs is new O rings. I’m very happy with the new one. I always use 1 1/4 inch long staples. Thanks for the video and I hope you and your family are doing fine!

    Hello Kamon, I had both the original named Hitachi nail, staple guns with a Bel Air pancake portable green compressor. I also used Senco 1/4" crown, 7/16" crown, and their brad nailer over the years as a carpenter, builder of mine own house, and putting together my tops, bottoms, pallets, boxes, and frames. Nice to see that others use the like even if this was 4 years ago. I try to buy American tools, but I sometimes need a cheap back up that can take a beating then thrown away as in using HF's small angle grinder to snip and cut blow out staples and nails in my boxes, and grinding tile, metal, and thick plastics. I will put on things temporary to be able to staple or nail at exactly 90° to help thwart that. Also I turn my frames and boxes 180° to what you show to relieve that edge stapling. Sometimes when I don't depress the safety firing tip all the way it only lets half the amount of air into the gun and it causes that nail or staple to not fire properly like you have on occasion and I myself sometimes. Pulling back the latch or slide once against the staples and making sure it is clean and free of paper or glue that holds the fastener clips together helps with the blank shots or misfires. Hope this helps you. Thanks for all the videos. I am becoming a huge fan because seeing all these things I experienced in your videos when I was young, your age with a family, and am know probably 25 + years older than you now is a good flash back. Also like the humor. Keep it up. Beekeepers and spouses. I funny challenge at times. :) 🐝

    Thanks- great to see beyond (or before) 'here's how to put together' videos. Knowing which tools work best for a job as simple as crown stapling a frame is as important as how to assemble. I almost bought a Bostich that had the front safety- now I can buy the cheaper one with more appropriate safety.

    I have one of the Central Pneumatic 18 Gauge 2 in 1 nailer/stapler and run the 1-1/2" staples in it. Along with Titebond III, this works great for most bee work, even brood boxes (I do add a few 2" coated screws to the boxes too). I rarely have a problem with my stapler, best $20 I spent at Harbor Freight.

  • @ke6gwf
    @ke6gwf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To use the Hft stapler on the frames, you can turn the box and use the stapler from the opposite direction so the safety lands on the bar instead of the edge.
    It requires a little more reaching, but makes it faster.
    Also, Hft tends to have several brands or models, and they may have another one in the same price point with a different safety design that works better for that application, so I would consider that safety design as a deal breaker if I wanted to use it on frames.
    You have to get a tool that's properly designed for your application.
    And finally, when doing frames, if that was all I had, I personally would wire or wedge the safety back, and treat it like a loaded gun exercising very good trigger control, WHILE WEARING SAFETY GLASSES!!
    Unplug it from the air hose except when actually stapling, don't have your finger on the trigger unless you are aimed at the wood, and as soon as you are done with the frame project, release the safety to normal.
    And don't leave it unattended with the safety disabled either, in case someone else picks it up.

    Great comparison Kamon. I’ve had the harbor freight brand stapler fo over a year and ran about 10,000 staples through it so far and no jams or misfires (except when I run out of staples, does that count?). I do agree that the little safety spring can be a pain on some shoots, but I’ve found if I can turn whatever I’m stapling I can usually get it to work. All in all not to bad for the price. 😃

    I went back to shooting a sideways brad cause I got over throwing perfectly good frames away cause wider part of the sides got propalised and broke off when doing inspections. I tried using these frames for the outside frames but the novelty wore off and once brood was gone I just discarded them. I use liquid nails on all joints, boxes and frames etc. I tried a couple of thousand plastic frames and donated them to the bee club, the bees prefer wood and I am happy with it also.

    I've found that the cheaper Central Pneumatic 2 in 1 stapler from Harbor Freight works better than the Banks. I've probably shot close to 100,000 staples and brads through mine and it hasn't had any issues. I have a much more expensive Bostich brad nailer that gets jammed every so often. I now have 2 Central Pneumatic 2 in 1s, I use one for brads and 1 for staples. The one thing that I did find is that the Central Pneumatic works better when the insides are greased as apposed to oiled.

    So to start with, WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!
    ESPECIALLY when doing double staples, and the safety disabled, you are much more likely to have a staple go flying or a shard go flying.
    Your eyes are more valuable than some annoyance from the glasses.
    I would be likely to disable the safety for doing that myself, just like I prefer a handgun with no safety, but eye protection doesn't slow the work down any, so no excuses for not wearing it.
