I am glad you are pointing out that too wide is not a good thing. I have a 24 Pro - same engine as the 26, fits anywhere and cuts through heavy, wet stuff faster with less bogging.
Can’t go wrong with this snowblower size! Thanks for watching pg! 👍
Another great video. My personal machine is a 2013 Ariens Pro 28. The duel belt auger pully set up is the best update Ariens had made on their machines about 15 years ago. My machine is still running its original belts. I also have a small snow removal business currently running a 2004 pro 32, 2018 pro 32, and 2022 Kraken to operate it. The '04 pro 32 would eat 2 belts a year because of it's single pully set up. The 2018 and the Kraken are also still on the original belts.
Appreciate you Z2! Thanks for sharing this! Dual belts are the way to go!
It's tough not to love Ariens. I have a 23 year old 6-24. We live in Erie, Pa, so we move a lot of snow most years. This old girl has always started and moved lots of snow (although when it's cold, I have to use the electric start - won't catch with the recoil). I had to replace the electric start maybe 8 years ago, and we sanded, scraped and painted it this past summer (I thought about sandblasting and going the whole nine yards but didn't). We finally changed the belts and friction disc (after 22 years!) and added heated handgrips (thank god, but had to disconnect the light - not enough amps for both) and the old thing will probably run another 20 years.....
Just a thought, have you ever removed your recoil assembly and lubricated the "dogs" that fly out to engage the engine when you pull the starter rope? I had to do that to my older (1985) ST824 back in the day because they would eventually gum up and not want to flip out and engage the shaft. After a good cleaning and lubricating they were right back to working well.
Awesome Barry! You definitely get some snow there! That machine will surely last another 20!
@@floobertuber good tip here!
I never imagined a guy doing laps with a snow blower with out snow would command me to get out and go buy one of these immediately! So I did, same model, 2800 smackers! Great video, thanks!
It throws imaginary snow twice as far! Lol! Appreciate the positive feedback van! Enjoy your new snowblower!
Thank you, sir! I started watching your channel this winter & I have learned A LOT. I have this similar snow thrower (Ariens 926LE) it is 20+ yrs old BUT it is still in GREAT SHAPE. But it's time to REDUE LOTS of stuff on this blower. THANKS TO YOU, I'm confident I will be able to replace MUCH of the parts that need replacing. Both belts, scrapper bar as well as replacing the shoes W/ the Armor shoes. I also have been scrapping the sidewalks to the point the bolt heads are wearing away! I'll be having to drill them out & replacing all 5 bolts as well as new scrapper bar. Then setting the shoes correctly on this blower. Spring 2024 CAN'T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH. Thanks for all your help. As a man NOW 55 years old & on disability because of MS, I'm trying to keep all cost down as best as possible. You ARE HELPING ME DO JUST THAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HELPING ME & MY FAMILY OUT. On a good warm day here in PA 55 degrees or higher, I'll be doing what needs to be done. Any suggestions with the shot directional that wonders ALWAYS to the right?! All the parts under that plastic cover look fine, but one can turn the shoot to the right whenever you want, but it stays locked to the right. I have to move the shoot back and I find myself spending a lot of time holding that lever while blowing the snow other than to the right?! Thanks again!
Hey glover! Glad to hear these videos are helping you out and saving you money! Appreciate your kind words as well! I think I know the reason to you chute wandering. There is a black cover that attaches to you chute near the deflector. Underneath the black cover on the underside is a bolt and spring. Tighten that bolt up and the chute should be under better control. Hope this helps. Thanks for being a cool fan!
That snowblower is a monster but I cant stop looking at that beautiful lawn! Look at that dark green!😂
Hahaha thanks bud! All thanks to the compost I threw down a month back! Thanks for watching!
Waiting on snow here. Just bought a platinum 28 rapidtrak sho. Getting older and want less muscling, so am looking forwards to the tracks.
Love your vids, you pack a lot in
Awesome John! Appreciate your positive feedback my friend!
I bought one of these in 2013 for 1850 and have not looked back… I live on Onondaga Hill outside of Syracuse and we get our fair share, I do two driveways and have never run into an issue with this machine…it runs on nonethanol and fluid film and makes clearing literally tons of snow effortless, wouldn’t recommend any other
Very cool Matt! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks you for the review and the cc to horsepower conversion for us goats lol. Thanks to some of your previous videos and what to look for, I picked up a 2015 30 inch Ariens deluxe for this winter up here in Canada and I can’t be more excited.
Awesome will! Congrats on your purchase! Thanks for being a cool fan!
A head to head w/ this blower and your new one would be fun to watch. Like a timed race on half of your driveway per unit.
Like where your head is at! 👍
Looking at a deluxe 24 since my old blower barely made it through last winter (and I was to lazy this summer to do anything with it). Pretty much the same features but no joystick chute control and no heated grips.... I will survive.
You will survive! I would grab that deluxe sooner than later. Once the snow hits they may be hard to get a hold of. Thanks for watching!
Hey JB, I can attest to the quality and durability of that machine . i have one from the early 2000's and it is still performing like new one. Great video as usual and Go Bills !
Appreciate you sharing this Dave! ROCK ON AND GO BILLS!
Hi. It needs a fuel gauge and a better headlight on the auger housing. Great review. Hope we get some decent snow fall this year. Last year we only got a dusting.

Hey JB: That thing is one hell of a giant machine. Impressive motor. I loved the Autumn look in the background around the 4:30 mark. Looked really beautiful.
Hey Frank! These pros are animals! Great machines! We get all four seasons in all their glory here in Buffalo!

I have the same machine, but 5 years older. It has never let me down. It's my second Ariens in 37 years. Iive in the lower Catskills of up-state NY and I wouldn't buy anything but an Ariens.
Thanks for sharing dab!
@@GarageGear Welcome.
awesome machine
It's still needs impeller kit, fuel filter, water proofed, and everything lubricated, adjusted and then maybe we can get 60 feet thro distance depending on condition of the snow but good video I love Ariens snowblower's and I modify every snowblower to better than new condition I can't help it I have to fix something even when it's not broke 🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧
Trust me! Plenty of fun to be had with this machine and my new 32! Stay tuned! 👍
They also make one that is fuel injected instead of carbureted. We’ve got one in the shop right now waiting on a new EFI chip at the moment.
Hey BCSERK, from what shop guys are telling me there are a lot of problems with the efi! My neighbor and I both stuck with carburetors this go around.
Oh wonderful....So it has the potential to leave me snowed in. I live in the country and just bought a 30" with EFI.
@@steveeab2364the cost of carburetor vs. EFI parts fail is huge unfortunately.
@@skyemac8 yup most carb issues are resolved with a clean/lube & adjustment. Easy to learn to on our own, and be back up and running in an or 2 depending on if it's your first time.

Good video and thank you, from a fellow WNY’er! I saw your vids, and heard you talk about Schaub’s, thank you! Went there to see David and ended up purchasing a professional 32 inch. We live in the edge of the normal lake effect band pattern and this should help. Agree with you that the Ariens and the dealer are great choices. Thank you!
Awesome, man! You won’t regret it! Glad you found a machine that will help tackle all that LES we get!
Great video JB! The Ariel’s 28 inch Pro is a nice machine. I definitely gotta get those Armor skid plates for my JD. Should help avoid hitting those driveway and sidewalk cracks. Gonna miss those 71 degree days too. Have a great weekend buddy. Go Bills!
Thanks Jay! The armorskids definitely help out a lot! The blower just climbs over everything! Definitely gonna miss the heat too! Hope you’re feeling a bit better! Go bills!

First snowblower review I’ve ever seen done..,in the summer. 😂
I actually filmed this in November. Lol
@GarageGear Great video, just picked up your rust-proofing ebook and looking forward to putting it into action! Would love to hear some thoughts on comparing the 24” Platinum SHO (carb) to the Pro 28 - about $800 difference (and a lot of weight). For my case I’m dealing with a 100ft x 20ft driveway - either will be a big upgrade. One of them will be in my garage soon, just need to pick!
I’ll have to see if I can get my paws on a Platinum. Either way they would be a good machine because they both have strong engines. Enjoy the ebook. You’ll have to let me know how it works and which blower you choose.
@@GarageGear
Which model is above the other? Platinum or Pro? (Sorry… I don’t know) lol
Go Bills!! (Gonna eat some feline tonight!)
@@apexiumim2741 hey apex! Pro is the model above the platinum. Too bad the bills couldn’t pull it off last nite!
@@GarageGear a quick follow up question. Do you find the Pro 28 to be pretty manageable weight-wise? It comes in at a whopping 340lbs! 70lbs more than the Platinum 24 (50lbs more than the 30”). I stopped by my local dealer and moved them both around a bit, but hard to know until it’s in the driveway!
@@weaverryanj both pro models I reviewed are very nimble with the auto turn feature. We’ll see how they do in the snow in a few weeks. Really easy to move around on dry ground.
Hi JB! Great review. I enjoy how you point out all the good and bad. Not much bad with this snowblower! Have an awesome day.
Hey Salmomlox, appreciate you as always! No machine is perfect but this comes pretty close! Have an awesome weekend!!👍

I’m Pro Honda but this is a nice machine. Only Ariens I had was old school 724 one and the Ariens 28” Sho which I sold few years later. The quality seem to be ok for few years. Than the bolts that held the shaft broke in half on all 4 bolts. I just said screw it and went Honda. I’ve owned 4 Honda snowblowers so far. An 1132, old school hs1332, hss928 wheeled and finally my brand new Honda hss1332 track snowblower. None have failed me

Great review. Glad to see you translated 420 cc in to the real # that COUNTS.... HORSEPOWER. You can have great features but if it is underpowered. you wasted your money and will be disappointed.
Yeah had to clear things up for some people! Thanks for watching my friend!
HP impresses the kids. Torque wins the race.
would be nice if you did a video on the John Deere 14sb. it has a pressurized oil system, so a good oil filter is a must!
actually some models...
I did the JX75 recently. I’m keeping an eye out for one. Usually when I find one of those 25 year old mowers they’re pretty beat up. Finding one in good shape is tough.
I suppose it's debatable, the conversion of CC"s to HPower. So the never that cones up most
frequently is 25 CC"s = 1 Horsepower. So if ir correct a 356 cc engine equates to 14 HP. WHO TO BLAME FOR THIS ? ..Blame the manufacturers. They were un error for most of this and overstated what the Hp was. So itches changed to Ccs. Thought I would share. Great Vid as always
Appreciate you sharing this Cuffy! Thanks for watching
With the exception of the engine this thing seems identical to my 23 year old John Deere (made by Ariens) 8hp 28" model. They barely changed anything. Mine has the Tecumsa engine of course which runs great. My only criticism is that when the locking hubs get packed with snow and ice it's difficult to unlock them which I need to do to get it into my shed.
Thanks for sharing my friend!
Thanks! I picked up some Armor Skids for my new Ariens Compact after watching this.

Hey silver the link is in the video description. They ariens use a 3inch on center measurement for the mount bolts on the armor skids. You’ll see on the website.

Video title says "(Better Than A 32"?)" So do you recommend the 28" vs the 32"? They seem identical specs except a few hundred dollars more for 4 inch wider runs.
Hey Peter! Either one is a great machine. Both throw about the same but the 32 can definitely inhale more snow. That’s really the biggest difference!
Just curious if you know what brand of engine this 420cc is & where it's made.
Ariens ax engines are designed in the us and built in china

Do you have any videos on the Kraken?
Unfortunately, I do not have any videos on that.
JB, I noticed something interesting about these larger AX engines - the ones with a carburator, not the EFI ones. When you throttled it up, it seemed like there's "idle" speed, and "full RPMs" ... and nothing in between. Does that accurately describe what I saw/heard?
This year, I got a new Platinum SHO 24 (369cc), and that's precisely what mine does. It's either idling, or it's FULL ON. There aren't any middling RPM speeds in between, despite the fact the dial can be moved throughout a range that's almost a quarter turn. I'd read somewhere that this is normal, and just how these engines work... but dang, does that ever seem weird to me. What do you think?
I’ve got the exact same machine. Currently doing rust proofing as per JB’s instructions. Also greasing shafts, sprockets and chains. I’ve read/seen problems with the type of steel used on newer models (cheep steel that is) compared to years past.
My unit has 6 hours from last season. I’ll report what I see/find once the belly pan is open.
@@apexiumim2741 Cool, I look forward to hearing what you find. I'd heard about the rust issues on the Platinum SHO as well... although they seem to be limited in scope. I guess we won't know, until we know.
Do you have any feedback to offer on my range-of-RPMs question above? Does yours run at any speeds between idle and max RPMs?
@@floobertuber
