    Thank you for you video is so helpful, what kind nail gun are you using

    Why do you need a flashing at the top of the window then another above the window trim board. Wouldn't it be sufficient to just have the through wall flashing at the top of the wood trim?
    How would any water get behind the wood trim if it is flashed at the top?

    What is the name of the “red” paint color on the siding In The video? It is Beautiful and is exactly what I’m looking for on my home. I’m gonna reside it this summer and want to use board and batten siding and this will be the perfect siding and color, thank you LP!!!!

      Hi Don, that awesome color you see in the video is Diamond Kote Color Cinnabar. You can see more homes that are using it here: diamondkotesiding.com/gallery/?swoof=1&siding_color=cinnabar

    Do you have to caulk along the batten strips ? Vertically?

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Loren! Caulking along the vertical batten strips is not required.

    So it’s needs a 3/8” gap at all flashings. But what about at the top by the soffit and around the side and bottom of the window? Just 3/16-1/4” gap? In the video you were using a plastic speed square, and that’s about 3/16”-1/4”. Just want to make sure before I start my project that I won’t void warranty.

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for using Diamond Kote! All flashings require a 3/8" gap. For siding that is using a H-Molding to cover field joints, a 1/4" gap is required to maintain the 3/16" requirement. As for bottom of windows and soffit lines, those request a 3/16" gap. If you have an additional questions, you can contact your local Diamond Kote rep or fill out our Contact Us form to have one reach out to you!

    What kind of nail gun is that and what psi pressure are you using

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We recommend a pneumatic “coil siding nail gun”. The model of the gun shown happens to be a MAX CN565s. Recommended pressure setting should be 80-90 psi. Nails should be set tight or flush to the face of the trim, but not be overdriven.

    We just finished a very large Hardie Panel job. It was 96 sheets. We had to install battens @ each joint. Should those joints be sealed in quad?

      Unfortunately, we can't speak to installation instructions for other companies. We would be happy to reach out and discuss the benefits of Diamond Kote Building Products. Please let us know if you would be interested in learning more.

    Are those panels precut to that width? My builder is installing lp diamond kote panel board and batten but nailing the entire sheet ( 4 x 10 or 4 x 16 ) to the exterior. I'm not sure that is the proper installation? Can I call you?

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Gabe, great question! When using 4'x10', 4'x9', or 4'x8' sheets in a board and batten application, it is acceptable to apply full sheets and install the battens in areas that do not have a seam. If your builder is using a combination of 4'x10' sheets and 16"x16' panels, they'll want to make sure the spacing between battens is the same to achieve a uniform look. Hopefully we were able to answer your question, however if more information is still needed, please feel free to reach out to us at (800) 236-1528 and press option '1' for Building Materials. Thank you for choosing Diamond Kote Building Products and best of luck with your build!

    Why can't you install the 16' panel and span multi-stories? This forces a band board at the floor level.

  • @mwgilmore9953
    @mwgilmore9953 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is a redundant question, but I want to really clarify the answer. I have 1/2 inch sheathing on the wall, I'm going to put the 16" panels directly on it (yes Tyvek/rain screen). Will those nails hold ( the nails won't be hitting the studs)?!!!! Why don't you show the totally structure in this video?

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 16” vertical panel is designed to be installed over minimum 7/16” structural sheathing. The nailing pattern is every 6” all the way around the perimeter of the panel. Use a hot dipped galvanized nail with a .092 shank and penetrating through the sheathing at least ¼”.

    what is the minimum gap horizontally between the trim and the panels? it looks like you only applied the 3/8 in gap above and below the window.

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question. For above the flashing, you will need a 3/8" gap. On the sides and bottom of the window it is a 3/16" gap.

    What type of house wrap is required for LP?

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Loren! A non-compressible, breathable, and water-resistive barrier is required behind the siding. You may want to consult your local building code for any additional requirements specific to your area.

    How long does the touch up paint last before it must get re touched up?

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! The touch-up paint is the same exact paint we use on our Diamond Kote products, so you should not need to re-visit and touch up at a later date. Certain areas of a home and weather conditions could potentially require more touching up than others, however.

      Hi Tim! We recommend not applying anything other than house wrap under our siding, but you can double check your local building codes to see if it's required.

    Is Diamond kote fire resistant

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diamond Kote LP SmartSide Strand materials can be used in several fire rated exterior assemblies tested by the Gypsum Association; GA-600 Fire Resistance Design Manual, as follows:
      For 1 hour walls, see GA File No. WP8105.
      For 2 hour walls, see GA File No. WP 8418
      Please let us know if you have further questions. Thank you.

    These are 16 inches wide. What are you nailing them into? Is there a stud behind or what? And if a stud, what do you do if there is a deviation from 16 inches OC? Most walls are NOT sheathed with OSB.

    • @diamondkotesiding
      @diamondkotesiding  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For aesthetic purposes the preferred method is for a batten to be centered, or the space between battens centered on a wall. It is highly unlikely that wall framing would accommodate this. Therefore the vertical siding must be installed over a minimum 7/16 Category wood structural panels with an APA Trademark that contains the consensus Standard DOC PS 1 or PS 2. Hitting the studs is not required so framing spacing is not a concern.

      @@diamondkotesiding I ripped 3/16 from each board (doing so is no different than any other field cut), nailed 3/4" furring strips to each stud, marked the position of each stud precisely. I have installed already some ten of these boards, going directly into studs (even if I missed, I would have gone into the furring strips), while maintaining the 3/16 gap. I was forced to do this because I have fiberboard sheathing with blown cellulose insulation behind. And yes, I installed a noncompressible house wrap. Thank you.
