    Great review. Basically this is similar to a Joola Vision with foam inject added (or just a lighter weight Hyperion). I have the Vision which I really like but may consider one of these for my next paddle, unless I decide to try a thermoformed paddle.

      I am planning on buying some lead tape and playing around with it as it is my first time. I usually just play with the paddle stock. I know lead tape is kind of subjective to the person, but I just wanted to know how you would set up the prism-flash in terms of how much lead to use/location, as well as if you personally use some sort of tape to go over the paddle or if that is not super necessary.

      @@pickleballeffect also, I think this paddle is definitely ideal when playing with a durafast. I played with franklins yesterday and it's hard to generate lots of power from the baseline. it seems almost necessary to have lead if you're playing with that ball, haha. Have Gruvn r16e, love it for its power for serves and drives, its a little head heavy, but i have no issues with that, i use no lead tape or overgrip, i like it stock, i can tighten or loosen my grip at will. my soft game resets are also great, i may lose a couple hand battles here and there, but i get more wins over my power game. Im thinking v7 will act like my Gruvn at less of a cost?

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the only major difference between the two paddles is that the prism flash has the foam injection around the perimeter and the gruvn doesn’t which is actually an upgrade from the gruvn and it’s still less expensive. It would be a natural transition for you and I think you’d like it.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It does have a good feel to it that seems to dampen vibrations well and would be arm friendly that way but the V7 model is a bit head heavy and because it's a control paddle you have to put a little extra into it to generate power which makes it less arm friendly. The Flash model however is lighter and would be easier to manage that way.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question? Do you play with the paddle grip circumference as is typically 4 1/4” or do you build them up to say 4 3/8” I ask because I’ve only played with the engage pursuit MX and it’s 4 3/8” stock. I’ve switched to the vatic flash and it’s 4 1/4” feels small to me obviously but thinking I’ll just get used to it hopefully without trying to build it up.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  ปีที่แล้ว

      I play with an overgrip on every paddle regardless of the size. Not with the intention of building it up I just like the feeling of a fresh grip all the time. I personally prefer grips around 4.25” though before I put the over grip on.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just depends what you're looking for. The Prism series are pure control paddles and help you slow the ball down and reduce pop ups in every scenario whereas the Pro series are more all-court style paddles that give you more pop and offense but are also a little more challenging to control when you're getting attacked or are stretched out. If you have a good sense of touch then go with the Pro series for the added offense but if you need help controlling the ball and reducing errors then the Prism series is good route.

      @@RobPauley I thought the 14 had a decent amount of control, but was really surprised at the power it has. The ball flies off it like a rocket compared to my Paddleteks, Ronbus R1 16 and Bison Rampage. The Vatic Prism Flash 14 has LOTS of spin, but that should be common to both. The balance is great and it is lightweight for faster hand movement.
      I have not tried the 16, but it still has a low swingweight of 114-115 (according to tests). The 16mm twist weight is 6.4 (moderate). I would say the twist weight of the 14mm is lower than that and I noticed it spinning in my hand more than some of my heavier paddles.
      The sweet spot on the 14mm was better than my Ronbus or my Bison Rampage. It would not surprise me that the sweet spot on the 16mm is even bigger.

      I wondered the same thing...here is the answer I received:
      These small surface inconsistencies are a byproduct of the thermoforming process, which we use to manufacture our paddles. A fine wet cloth is heat-pressed over the carbon fiber surface for several hours to texturize the surface. Please note with our paddles, the roughness of the surface and what you can feel by touch do not indicate how much spin it can generate, as the weaving is present on a microscopic level. A finer carbon fiber surface can even generate more spin than a surface that feels highly gritty.
      Although we take every measure to minimize variance, they may still occur due to the nature of the process.

      Thermoformed paddles have foam too but undergo a different construction process that involves a lot more heat and pressure that makes paddles stiffer and more powerful than non thermoformed paddles.

    Flash or V7 for a beginner ?

    Great review. I noticed Vatic Pro says the Flash has unibody construction so that should make the handle strong. They also say "Surface - Raw TORAY T700 Carbon Fiber with heat compressed texturing". I wonder what that last part means? My wild guess ... perhaps they're using the same "prepreg" face material as their thermoformed paddles which is a dry layup that requires heating to cure the prepreg's glue. But instead of a mold, it might just be a heated press for the sandwich. Or maybe all gen1 sandwich paddles have always been manufactured this way and Vatic is just hyping? Anyone know? Looking forward to demo'ing the Prism.

      I imagine it's the same as the gen 1 sandwich paddles but they are just saying it differently ha.

    Braydon, How does Prism Flash 16 MM compare with original Ronbus R1.16. Is there more power? I have the Robus R1.16 and really like the control, and the swingweight cause I am getting over Tennis Elbow. I know I don't want the V7, but I am wondering if I should buy the Prism Flash to get a little more power without pushing my arm too hard.

      The Prism Flash sounds like it fits the bill well for what you need. It has a touch more power and is more stable than the R1.16. Very similar feel and control and the swingweight is very manageable and won't aggravate your elbow any more than the R1.16 would. You can even request a lighter weight on Vatic Pro's website at checkout just to be safe too.

    I got the Vatic Prism Flash 16 and I love the lower swing weight versus CRBN 1x, the paddle I was playing with when I got tennis elbow. I like its relative softness. But, I think the forgiveness and sweet spot is much less than the (Lite
    ) Engage Pursuit MX Pro 6.0 I have which is of course a longer face, and a longer handle. ThT is a paddle that even does more of the work for you. I’m using it play non-dominant hand for now as my dominant hand recovers. I’ll keep trying the Vatic Prism Flash but if anyone has a rec for a low swing weight paddle that has a larger sweet spot let me know.

      Look at Vatic Pros regular Flash, not the Prism Flash. It’s thermoformed like the 1x but with a lower swing weight like the Prism Flash.

    How do the Prisms compare to their leading competitor, the Ronbus R1.16 and R3.16? They are nearly the same price and seem to be very similar non-thermoformed raw carbon-faced paddles.
    Thanks!

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those don’t have the foam injection and the Prisms do. The foam improves forgiveness, power, and gives the paddles more of a dense, plush feel. I personally prefer the Prisms over the gen 1 sandwich paddles like those Ronbus ones. However, the Ronbus R3.16 is much lighter than the Prism-V7 so if you don’t like the extra weight and want that true elongated shape then the R3.16 would be the route to go.

      I have a ronbus r1 and I really like it, but I just got the prism flash and I prefer it even more. It just feels a bit better. Hits a little harder and is better for the soft game as well. Both great paddles but I like the prism more.

    Great content! What would you recommend between the flash and V7? I am a former tennis player and have been using the OG Franklin Ben Johns paddle for 2 years now. It’s fine but the face has gone smooth and sweet spot feels small at times, so I am looking to upgrade. I have no problem producing my own power and place more value on spin and control. Thanks!

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The main difference between the two is weight. The V7 is weighted similar to the OG Ben Johns so if you like the balance and feel of that one then go with the V7 but if you want something lighter then go with the Flash.

      @@pickleballeffect Appreciate the help! I think I could get used to either of the weights considering I only have experience with one paddle and they all feel very light compared to a tennis racket. I am leaning flash since I mainly play doubles and spend as much time as I can at the kitchen line. Wondering if flash + lead tape might give me the best of both worlds.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Woopigmavs That's the set up I would personally go with. Especially for doubles since the Flash is more forgiving.

    Have you added any lead tape to this paddle ? Or it is not warranted.

    • @pickleballeffect

      I have some lightweight strips on the bottom two corners and some edge guard tape on there now which added like .3oz. Here’s the edge guard tape I use, a.co/d/huM5h3b. But the weight didn’t change much. You could go without it.
