I cannot explain logically why, but when you get used to the poppiness of the 14mm pro flash you feel almost unstoppable. The power and spin is great and the weight on the paddle is so low that hand battles are a breeze. One of my favorites for sure but does take soft hands!
prism v7 was one of the better paddles i purchased when starting out (for context, i purchased the ben johns hyperion and i liked the vatic more). I played with it stock for like 2 months and it felt ok but something felt "missing." I then started to mess around with lead tape at 9 and 3 oclock...and OH MAN. it has changed SO MUCH. Became one of my favorites in no time. Used it for a while until i found out about sixzero double black diamond lol. But vatic is definitely on the best budget high performing paddles out there
I think it's best to have two or three Paddles in the bag. 16mm PRISM flash for when the ball is going out (cold day, higher altitude, fast ball, fast gameplay, wind at back) and a 14mm Thermoformed Flash for when the ball is falling short (hot day, dead ball, hitting into the wind, high humidity, low elevation). You can get both for the same cost as these newer more expensive paddles. Also, the PRISM is cheaper to replace so it's possible to replace it when the spin drops off as the paddle wears out. So this system would be the cheapest total cost of ownership and give more flexibility to the player to adjust to circumstances. When drilling use old Paddles, when competing use new Paddles with fresh grit.
At 67 years old I've played tennis, ping pong and raquetball in the past, I started out in pickleball with the Prism Flash and love it! The control it gives me is amazing and was just what i was looking for, I will stay with Vatic when I upgrade to my next paddle. Thank you for you input it was very informative.
I personally love the Vatic Pro paddles, haven't used the Alchemy though, but the V7 is amazing! Use it in singles and in doubles and it is great, and also for the price!
Been using prism flash 16mm for quite a while. I like the control it has for my prefer style of dropping and dinking. It does lack power though. ordered DBD infinity when it first came out but decided to cancel and went with prism flash 14mm. No regrets
@@darrinuhl8103 yes I personally would start with the 16mm if you are a beginner or intermediate. The 14mm may be more poppy if you don’t have the control and touch dialed in. The 16mm is a solid paddle and I really think you can grow with this paddle for a while before you need to upgrade to something else. And if you’re lacking power with the 16mm, you can add lead tape.
@@darrinuhl8103 I really don't know. I think it depends on the person if they are able to adequately generate power on their own. Remember lead weight can also be added to balance out the swing weight or to create an overall bigger sweet spot for the paddle.
Vatic is a great company and I own a few of their paddles, but i wish they made a product line between the Pro and Prism series, similar to what Ronbus did with the Nova line
I have the Vatic Pro Flash 16mm. I do think my game improved since I had it for a few months but I think i still not maximise the potential yet. It does get better control from what I feel.
Santa is bringing me a Prism Flash 16mm. Can't wait! I strongly prefer control paddles with low swingweight and high twist weight for hands battles. I can generate more than enough other but need all the help I can get keeping it in. 😮 My current daily driver is a Hudef Apex 16mm after failing with multiple Gen2 paddles.
Coming from the Hyperion as my go to that I won a nationals singles title last yr, I now prefer to play singles with the V7 Prism 16mm & the Prism Flash 16mm for dubs. Both forgiving around the NVZ with very lil pop cuz it's not thermoformed. Both still have some decent power. If someone feels the Prisms don't have enough power, hit the gym, girls. I'm now curious of each in 14mm. I've also played with A LOT of different pricy paddles, & Vatic is my new go to. Thx Vatic 😁
Great review! I would like to know if you would consider the 14 mil prism a control paddle? I have the legacy pro and pros. I'd consider them a power paddle, and I'm looking for something with more control. Would love to know if you think i would notice a difference even in the 14 mil.
Have question: Do I go for the long handle or short handle for the PRISM V7? Just watched your video and I’m sold. Gonna buy Prism V7 for myself and Prism Flash for my wife.
Short handle unless you think you really really need the 2 hands for the backhand but I use a 2 handed backhand and honestly don’t have any issues with the shorter handle
To me it’s solid but a little underwhelming if you are looking for power when you compare it to the gen3 and other power paddles out there. Still good pop, I also find the grit level varies a lot between them. Some get super good grit while others don’t, I don’t have rpm numbers on them
Great review. I am leaning to the VAtic Prism Flash 14mm but am also considering the SLJK Halo 14mm. What are the differences and which is better for an intermediate and current top club tennis player.
Do you have any thoughts on how the long vs “short” handle versions affect performance for the Prism V7? I’m wondering if it’s similar to the notion of what you mentioned with the Flash 14mm (going all the way). I’m tempted to just go for the long handle for better reach and leverage, but I don’t have a tennis background and I don’t want to lose any of that cushy playability ☁️ ✨🎾 💵 ☁️ Thanks, great video
Imho the effect on performance is almost negligible. I’d go for the long handle just for the that little bit of extra reach. They both play fairly cushiony and I couldn’t really tell a difference between the feel between the LH or SH versions
Thanks Will. Had the Flash 16mm but sold it. Waiting on the upcoming 6.0 line of concepts/proto types that I heard are coming. Alchemy for sure is "ugly"
I’d go Vatic over black ace any day. But Im also just personally not a fan of the Black Ace from prokennex. At least the original black ace. The De La Rosa Black Ace is ok to me though
@@PickleballWill Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate it! I have liked this video and subscribed to your channel. I went ahead and purchased the Vatic Prism Flash. I just started playing in an intermediate class (I used to play tennis way back in high school), and I'm getting pickleball elbow really bad though, using a Head paddle. I'm hoping the Vatic will help to decrease that. Any other advice you have would be much appreciated on how I can address the elbow pain. I enjoy playing, but if this will be a continued issue, then I guess I'll have to give it up...or play much less often than once or twice a week.
Hey there sir! Love the videos and the great breakdown of this line of Vatic paddles! I am excited to learn to play pickleball and looking at paddles. Want one for beginner but can move with me as intermediate level and a paddle that is not basic that may not give me best experience of starting out. Suggestions from anyone please.😊
@susanscandles : The Vatic Prism V7 with a discount code is probably THE BEST value paddle in terms of performance for the dollar and will allow you to grow your game will into your advanced play time... you'll probably wear the paddle out before then... I LOVE mine, controlled power, spin & control out the wazoo and a good looking paddle on top of all that... like Will said - these are EASY to recommend, at under $100...
@@darrinuhl8103 I own both, and find the V7 shape to provide a more generous sweet-spot and better "plow-through" on off-center hits.... YMMV, however...
