- Will it be third time lucky over the very brutal and rocky Joubert's Pass!?
My previous two attempts had resulted in catastrophic failures in different ways.
Located south of Red Drum and Marienfluss in the amazing north west of Namibia this small mountain pass is a real tyre shredder, will you take you vehicle over it one day?
This is the story of a year long LD stay in Namibia..... with you in the passenger seat!

I’ve towed a fully loaded off-road trailer over Rooi Drom Pass (Joubert Pass) a few days after towing down Van Zyls Pass a bit further to the north. In my mind Joubert Pass is the worst of the two. After that trip I had to turf all my BFG tyres on the vehicle.

Love the video! This really tickles the sense of adventure and excitement, stress, happiness, relief and then concern all in one day. It’s a real emotional roller coaster!
In saying that, I would still take my landy up there for the adventure and the memories, both good and bad as it’s a package deal when over landing. Thanks do much for making these videos!

Not sure I'd tackle that pass in my old lady 110 hicap as I have a camper box on the back , but it did look like great fun if a bit scary. Hats off to you mate you're doing a fantastic job. I have watched this episode 3 times so far.....
Fair enough! It is a bit of a vehicle smasher, but at least quite short and not too high or technical, you can drive it solo etc.
It's always good to get the heart pumping a bit 😃

I drove that pass in 2022. Donated my breaks on the leveller sections towards Rooidrom. 3 days driving to Kamanjab were a little nerve wracking 😬😬😬

I think its a lot more fun in a rental 4x4 when you don't have to care much about the vehicle!

don't think that is joubert pass , that's rooidrom pass for want of a better name . joubert pass runs north south east of there . thanks for the great channel , really enjoyable .

It is called that on many maps, but also Red Drum pass in some circles it seems.
And there is another 'Joubert's pass' south of Sesfontein towards Opuwo as well which I think is the one your referring too?
I couldn't get 100% clarity from anybody including the locals so went with what is on Tracks4Africa.
Either way, its quite rocky 😀😀

Would you do it again, or think the state of the pass is to much wear and tare on the vehicle and risk?.

An extremely taxing 4x4 route indeed ! Bugger on that rear diff/axle, hope nothing serious to fix. Oil leaks ever a good thing. Till next episode, hopefully with good news .. .. .. .. .. best.

It refers to a time starting in 2020 when people were asked very kindly to stay at home - I ran away to Namibia for a year instead where it didn't apply that much. If you start at Episode 1 this first series tells the whole story:
