  • A snapshot of this morning here in Olas Altas Mazatlan. Super dangerous and sketchy - watch out! Police everywhere, guns drawn, etc. Or maybe I was watching the news somewhere?

    Sooooooooo DANGEROUS!!
Oooooooooooooooooooh. Ima scareded. Been there, and would go back in a heartbeat. We walked everywhere including an hour and a half walk inland from beach to check things out. Never once did we feel unsafe. Don’t panic! Get organic! Hahaha

I took a cruise a couple weeks ago, saw Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo. In that extremely short time my wife and I both liked Mazatlan the best. The humidity is real though, I was sweating like you or worse in all three of those places after walking for several hours. Definitely not a place I would want to live if my I had to work outside all day. But if I had an indoor job, no problem.
What I liked about Mazatlan was the layout around the port area and the colorful older buildings, definitely had some character! There is an excellent pastry place along the blue line.

That market was the cleanest I have ever seen. I live in Veracruz Veracruz and all the markets are nasty and the people are just hustlers all the way through but they are nasty, trash and food all over, vegetables and fruits on ground just plain nasty. Why worry about your sweat? Here in Veracruz Veracruz it has been over 96degrees but the feel-like temperature is 110. It is plain hot normal to sweat.

I have lived all over Mexico for 4 years. On one hand, there are a ton of things to do in Mazatlán, the Malecon is safe 24/7, and the ocean is beautiful. But his town is loud, dirty except for the Malecon area, full of corruption, and petty theft is rampant. The Federal cops will shake you down in a heartbeat but the local cops are great. I live on the beach is a high rise and before coming, did my homework and heard NONE of this, only great reports. I see others have had better luck but feel either Puerta Vallarta or Ajijic are far better suiting for full time living IF you have a little "extra money". As for me, I had my fun but am burned out by the grinding poverty one see daily, plus I love my home area of South Florida. My lease is up in a couple months and while I had a blast down here overall, will not miss it one bit.
