A lot of people think recent OldFo Whiskey Row bottlings haven't been as good as in the past. I can't really verify because I'm newer but the 1920 I had 2 years ago was significantly better than my recent one. That would be a good video Idea - Source some older Old Forester bottles (3-5 years ago) and try them blind against newer ones.
Their head taster, jackie zykan, left in i think june 2022. She started a distiller hidden barn with the son of a well known whiskey (more so moonshine) family. His name is on the tip of my tongue, but not coming out. Pretty much seems to be when OF started going down hill. Too bad she wasnt still there when they released 1924, that would have been a much better release. Not that it is bad, but could be better, especially for the price. Could use a little more proof as well.
I agree with them. The recent bottli gs of OF really havent been as good as past ones. Seems like once jackie left and started hidden barn their stuff has not been as good
Bought that sagamore Rye today after watching Wednesdays video. I always pour the first two ounces of any new bottle into my infinity bottle but, my infinity bottle was full. So, I'm drinking from my infinity bottle tonight(and it is FABULOUS!)in order to make room for the Sagamore addition. Will sample Sagamore tomorrow. Thanks for the education.
I grabbed a Sagamore Double Oaked from your Christmas recommendation video for my Father in Law. I loved it so much that I got one for myself and got my friend into the whole lineup as well. Beautiful bottle
Had a great day. I picked up a bottle of Jim Beam Black Label 7 yr last week and today my step son brought me over two more bottles for an early Fathers Day Gift. He's such a good guy. And now I'll watch this video.... Always a good time with good drinking tips and new things to try.
I’m a big fan of the Fox and Oden DO. The brand is blended by Nancy Fraley, that particular bottle is a blend of 8-15 year bourbons. The gray label is their straight bourbon IIRC, it’s very good as well. They also make a single malt.
Nice blind again! I bought the Woodford DO and Old Forester 1910 over a year ago and they have tasted there way out of my rotation and I’ve moved on to different pours! Cheers
Was able to grab a bottle of Peerless DO Rye at the distillery this year. It's fabulous. It looks like on very rare occasions, the Hyvee near us gets it in, so hopefully I'll be able to buy again. Also, love how well the Woodford DO did in this. What an amazing, affordable pour.
I have a WR double oaked store pick that smells and tastes like butterscotch. I ran to the store the next day to get a second bottle before they ran out
Jason C (Mash & Drum) gave a real good review of that Fox & Oden too, but the 100 price point scared me off. I know I'm going to buy it eventually because it seems to be sitting at that price.
@12:10 "You know how I am with candles..." I've got a Glade Plug-In in my kitchen with Vanilla Caramel Twist oil in it. Every whiff reminds me of a fantastic vanilla-bomb bourbon note. Try it!
This video seems to confirm my long-held belief that rye is a better base whiskey for double oaking. Double oaking a whiskey gives it an extra punch of oak but also can impart some additional sweetness, honey, marshmellow, and sourdough notes. Those are all things that a regular bourbon kind of has already. Rye whiskey has more floral notes but often drinks above its proof. A secondary oaking tends to decrease the pepper notes of rye "spice" and replace them with more mellow buttery notes. It works very well to bring the rye into the palate of a bourbon drinker. What is missing in the market is a malted rye finished in a secondary oak. Malted Rye always has very dark cacao, vanilla bean, and coffee notes. When you double oak a Malted rye... you get creamy chocolate, Vanilla wafer, and honey. The only bottle I have that is malted rye with a secondary oak is Old Potrero Malted Rye finished in a Toasted Barrel. It's incredible but I think a medium char secondary barrel might have hit the spot a bit better.
I've seen a few other comments about it, but I think an Old Forester Whiskey Row Re-review would make for a really interesting video since most people agree they've been off their game recently
WRDO and 1910 are mainstays in my basement bar. Love them both but WRDO is more available where I am so it's one of my go-to bourbons. Peerless is amazing but pricey in these parts.
OF 1910 is one of my go to bottles, it is better deeper into the bottle. I'm going to have to revisit Woodford Double, haven't had it for a while. TonyB
Interesting turnout. I’m a fan of Woodford and the 1910. Agree both may not have the “punch” but both are just solid sippers and readily available which is a bonus.
I keep changing my mind on double-oaked bottles. I have often raved about some, only to discover a couple of months later that I'm not as enthusiastic about them. I don't know if it's the whiskey changing over time, or if my palate has changed, or maybe it's tied to whatever I've had to eat. 🤷
I took a bottle of Old Forester 1910 to drink with my cousin who brought Woodford Double Oak to drink and compare together... as I watch this video I am enjoying the Woodford.... But I have finally found Old Forester Rye which I have be searching for, for two years and also enjoy.....
I blinded 1910 and WRDO the other night. Both awesome, I preferred the sweetness of Woodford more. Would be interested to see results if I did it again!

OF 1920 was my favorite for several years; I have also found that the flavors I used to enjoy have changed! Now that could just be my palate changing; but I no longer purchase it!
Thanks, been seeing many people posting about that. Bought my 1st 1920 & 1910 this year, for $48 & 41, so looks like I missed out on the good stuff. Wonder if that's why I found them priced much lower than MSRP.
I love 1910, but mine has a very good nose, I have one good pour from my WDO SLB pick. To me It’s good . I hope it gets better. If and when I reach for them the 1910 is my first choice..
If you guys can find one you gotta try the Peerless Toasted. I love it. It's phenomenal. I'm trying not to crush the bottle by drinking Elijah Craig Toasted instead lmao
I just blinded sagamore double oak with the 2XO Kiawah Blend I highly reccomend throwing that in if you continue this series it beat sagamore on complexity pretty good imo
I was shocked when i went to the store and saw what peerless is going for. They had 4 of them. Yikes. I'd be mad if i bought it and had your notes. What if you saw russell 13 for $150, blantons for 80, j bowman for 65, bcbp 65, larceny bp 60, ec toasted 60. what would buy and what is your profile preference. I like more barley, oily body, little tang, oaky, not a sugar sweet bomb.
1910 is such a shame cause it’s fantastic but just doesn’t stack up to Woodford and others, even after getting some air. It’s got a nice cinnamon hint to me tho
Some stuff is so weak on the nose. Any thoughts or ideas. Did the previous ones diminish it for the later ones? I'm guessing not. Some stuff if so weak in different areas.
The last two videos have thrown me off with the top pick on the right (from the viewer perspective). Can you go back to putting them with the lowest on the right 😂
The chemistry between you two is unmatched
Excuse my ignorance, but I didn’t know 1910 was a Double Oaked, I tried it for the first time and I loved it. I love Woodford Double Oaked also.

I do love Woodford Reserve Double Oaked - my fave.
OF 1910 was a neck pour from the looks of it. That one really improves over time after opening.
Agree, I wanted to jump through the screen with that review.
I agree with them. The recent bottli gs of OF really havent been as good as past ones. Seems like once jackie left and started hidden barn their stuff has not been as good

I agree with you on the Woodford Double Oak, needing a cask strength version
I was the dope who ran into you guys at the Peerless gift shop when you were picking! Glad to see this.
I wonder if Jackie Zykan leaving Old Forester is affecting the taste of their bourbon.
Definitely a huge possibility.
That Peerless DO Rye SLB pick is one of my favorite bottles in my collection, and I wish there were more of them available.
Had a great day. I picked up a bottle of Jim Beam Black Label 7 yr last week and today my step son brought me over two more bottles for an early Fathers Day Gift. He's such a good guy. And now I'll watch this video.... Always a good time with good drinking tips and new things to try.
Love the longer videos. 👍🥃
I’m a big fan of the Fox and Oden DO. The brand is blended by Nancy Fraley, that particular bottle is a blend of 8-15 year bourbons. The gray label is their straight bourbon IIRC, it’s very good as well. They also make a single malt.
TH-cam loves these guys 😂 I get notifications the new videos dropping the same min it drops lol no other channel dose it but this one
You probably have the bell on for them but not on other channels
@@Ona1000 naaa swear this bell goes crazy
Nice blind again! I bought the Woodford DO and Old Forester 1910 over a year ago and they have tasted there way out of my rotation and I’ve moved on to different pours! Cheers
I found the Fox & Oden last year and have been enjoying the Double Oak, as well as their Bourbon. 🥃

Excited about tonight! I’m going to be watching with some WR Double oaked store pick.
I have a WR double oaked store pick that smells and tastes like butterscotch. I ran to the store the next day to get a second bottle before they ran out
Great episode, been hearing great things about Fox and Oden. See you all tonight!!!
I tried 1910 for the first time recently and was really underwhelmed too. I tried it against Woodford and it was no contest.
Jason C (Mash & Drum) gave a real good review of that Fox & Oden too, but the 100 price point scared me off. I know I'm going to buy it eventually because it seems to be sitting at that price.
YEAAA PEERLESS!!! Onto the live stream now, see you guys there!!
@12:10 "You know how I am with candles..." I've got a Glade Plug-In in my kitchen with Vanilla Caramel Twist oil in it.
Every whiff reminds me of a fantastic vanilla-bomb bourbon note. Try it!
"YOU LIKE SCENTED AIR!!"
I love the OF 1910 but in this Blind with some proofy options I can see how this gets lost in the shuffle.
This video seems to confirm my long-held belief that rye is a better base whiskey for double oaking. I mix the 1910 with the 1920, equal parts. It's a solid pour.
I prefer 1915 to 1910 or 1920
I’m have to try this. 🥃👍
So that would make it a 1930 OF😂I WILL TRY IT for sure
Has anyone ever tried mixing those with OF 100P or OF Rye?
Just made a blend of this and put it in a home barrel for a couple weeks. Almost already halfway through it a month later.
I think I enjoy your relationship even more than the reviews.
I picked up a bottle of Woodfords double oak and was amazed how yummy it was! Double oaks for me! Love WILD TURKEY 101 also.
I so enjoy you guys that I watch your videos even though I would probably never buy the whiskeys.🤣
Great show! It’s just a water heater though. You don’t need to heat hot water lol.
I've seen a few other comments about it, but I think an Old Forester Whiskey Row Re-review would make for a really interesting video since most people agree they've been off their game recently
Peerless double oak my favorite double oak hands down and 1910 was rly good to
I am excited to hear about the golf tournament!
WRDO and 1910 are mainstays in my basement bar. Love them both but WRDO is more available where I am so it's one of my go-to bourbons. Peerless is amazing but pricey in these parts.

Interesting turnout. I’m a fan of Woodford and the 1910. Agree both may not have the “punch” but both are just solid sippers and readily available which is a bonus.
You know Trenton it is possible to take a cold shower! It is summer so it won't be too cold. Man up!
Man I am glad you cleared that up I wasn’t sure what I was smelling this morning
Curious to see your thoughts on First Call Double Oak as their Master Distiller came from Woodford Reserve. 11:56
SOMEONE get these guys a new bottle of 1910 oh man
Yes I agree, my wife comments about the aromas coming from my 1910 sitting beside me. I don’t understand ??
I keep changing my mind on double-oaked bottles. I have often raved about some, only to discover a couple of months later that I'm not as enthusiastic about them. I don't know if it's the whiskey changing over time, or if my palate has changed, or maybe it's tied to whatever I've had to eat. 🤷

Only have had Woodford and 1910. Like both and prices are in my wheelhouse. 🥃
You guys should try the Pursuit Spirits Double Oak!
That feel when your favorite double oaked gets last place in the blind
If old forester double barreled a batch of 1920, they'd dominate the double oaked market.
I’ve got the Woodford and 1910. I enjoy both but the Woodford is just a little bit more complex.
Are you guys talking bout the Essen hous in middlebury indiana
I blinded 1910 and WRDO the other night. Both awesome, I preferred the sweetness of Woodford more. Would be interested to see results if I did it again!
The 1910 might be the batch you got, cause that’s one of my go to’s and it’s usually sweet rich and caramel.

Peerless DO rye is one of the best out there. Surprised at 1910 in last.
We desperately need a cask strength Woodford double oaked
Ask Trenton if he combs his hair with a pack of firecrackers. lol 😂😂😂

Did you all consider the Pursuit Double Oak for this series? Fantastic pour!!
When sipping bourbon, is it better to do it before eating, or after? Or personal preference? Would eating spicy food make a difference?

Oh, the 1910 was a neck pour…. Now it makes sense. The neck pour is real, people
Kurt, you need to time your sips between Trenton’s comments!
Sneaky Peteza.
fox and oden is joseph magnus people ans is fantastic grey label is reg bourbon
Seems like Old Forester isn’t as good as it was before.
It's time to buzz cut that hair Trenton. It's hanging on for dear life.
Sooooo. With this video and the last one, what I’m hearing is rye’s are better double oaked 😂
