I've never heard of a majority of these games, so I definitely learned even more about the PSP's insane library. Also, there was a Macross game on the PSP?! I need to get that now! Awesome episode as always man!
The PSP is the console that got me into handheld gaming. Ever since then I've always found that handheld consoles really do have the best games. The times we live in with all these Linux/Android/Steam handhelds is like I'm living in a dream. I get to play every single game from every single emulated system on my favorite form factor to game on.
i was liturally thinking to myself lastnight that this thing in my hand was a time of no pay to win, no buying extras to get an advantage. was all to do about skill. i do miss that.
Black Leopard, also known as Kurohyou (Or Black Panther) is amazing. Great music. Solid graphics. Even the combat is made by the same devs who made Def Jam: Battle for NY. The story is also quite impactful, showing that there's more to fighting than just the fight itself. Kurohyou also got a sequel, Kurohyou 2: Ashura Chapter. Expanding to add new combat styles and even adding the city of Sotenbori (the city Majima started in for those who played Yakuza 0). Outside of the game, it also got a two-season live-action TV show and a manga adaptation. Dunno if there are English translations of those or not. Those wanting to try these games, they japan only sadly. Though there are English translations for each one. The 1st one only has the story translated by a group called KHHSubs. The 2nd one was 90% fully translated by a group called TeamK4L. This has more side-content translated and a fully translated story. The last 10% was just some smaller side content left untranslated. TeamK4L did say they were taking up translating the rest of 1, but it's still ongoing. Sorry for the wall of text. I just like Kurohyou 2 a bit.
Dude, Black Rock Shooter was DOPE when I played it! The tight-knit combat system might turn some off as you'd probably want to freely move about, but once you get settled in, the battle meditation hits like a TRUCK.
BRS has such a great combat mechanic and it's a very stylish game overall. The story is kinda all over the place and you may feel like something is missing but it's just such a good experience that you may be forgiving with it. I played it for the first time in 2017 and it still surprises me that this game didn't receive a proper sequell. Now there's a mobile game of it but let's not talk about that...
I was hoping to see 7th Dragon 2020 here, and I was not disappointed! I talk about the games to just about anyone who will listen to me because I love the 7th Dragon games and think they're criminally overlooked. Easily one of my favorite JRPG series ever.
Last Ranker is awesome! I've been playing an english patched version and although the game is not perfect, the ranking system mixed with the storyline makes for an engaging experience and you want to keep playing to reach the top of the chain. Such a shame it never got a western localization due to PSP's poor sales outside Japan.
So many Imageepoch games... Every once in a while something reminds me of that company and all their wonderful rpgs. It kills me to think how many amazing and unique games will never be made. Last Ranker is one of my favorites, though I never got to finish it as the partial patch lost me. I think the game I spent the most time with was Sol Trigger. Man, that's one hell of a game. I should also try to finish Arc Rise Fantasia or 7th Dragon 2020-2 next time I have some free time. Anyways, thanks for the great recommendations. Great video as always.
Lovely to hear about more gems on the PSP; a library I'd have loved to have explored more of back in the day if I had a second memory card for it (and a place to store said memory card). 3:58 - I remember really looking forward to Black Rock Shooter, reading many an article about it on Siliconera, but at some point lost track of it. The 2013 release probably didn't help; I was focused on my Wii U and 3DS at that point. The 4:47 dodge only mechanic with a heat limit sounded pretty cool; kind of pseudo-turn based and a 3D game that never had to worry much about camera control on a system with only one control stick/nub. 7:55 - That's pretty cool; Hudson here trying to keep the spirit of the Bandai Wonderswan alive. 13:32 - I'd vaguely heard of all the games on this list but had never heard of Infected. It's rather vibrant for an apocalypse and the snow effect is subtle but splendid.
I actually played a lot of those games on the list. It's a shame many psp games never got ported to English like Macross. Thanks for the modding community to help translate games even today, so many years after the PSP shut down
my favorite PSP game that i have never seen anyone talk about is Free Running. its a parkour/tony hawk style game with huge open levels in the uk. can't recommend trying it enough
Genso Suikoden: the woven web of centuries got a translation patch recently and nobody talks about that, so if anyone likes that series and is interested in a really great entry then it's out there for you to play.
Hello, I stumble upon this video (And part one of PSP games nobody talks about) to see Queen's Blade Spiral Chaos in it. And I was not disappointed, the reason why I seek that game because I'm more familiar about the Crossover spinoff of Queen's Blade Spiral Chaos called Queen's Gate Spiral Chaos. That game has many guest characters from I guess most Japanese Media alongside the Queen's Blade cast, and the Raunchyness is turn up to eleven on Queen's Gate compared to Queen's Blade. I know that game ever since it appear on the article on my local Gaming Magazine during my high school years.
I had the chance to play Black Rock Shooter and Last Ranker back then (even when it was just in japanese, but the gameplay and music is really good, so that's why I kept going) . And I wish I have the chance to play more of this. And if I may ask, what song is using in the background of "Infected" part? I am sure I heard it before somewhere.
Speaking of Queen's Blade have you familiar with the Crossover Spinoff game of Queen's Blade called Queen's Gate Spiral Chaos? (Another PSP game that has a lot of guest characters).
Black Rock Shooter was my very first PSP game I owned and played and I loved it. I did 100% Achievement twice with my physical Japanese copy, then got the english vers on PS Vita and got 100% achievement twice again. The game is far superior to Kingdom Hearts -Birth by Sleep- since you don't need both L/R buttons to lock on enemies. You only need one for locking on enemy while the other is for activating skills. Very fun gameplay and challenges.
