- The Pit Boss Dual Burner Portable Gas Grill is a nice little budget option, but it has a serious issues as it comes from the factory. This video goes over my impressions of the grill and how to overcome some of the design flaws.

I love my Weber Hot Shot portable gas grill , I added drip pans , craycort cast iron grates , thermometer , Craycort reversible griddle plate and a 1lb to 20lb propane tank adapter and an adapter for filling 1lb canisters . Still cheaper than buying a newer grill at almost twice the price . I refurbished my 1992 Weber Hot Shot that Weber made for the Marlboro cigarette company . New models are the Weber Go Anywhere Gas Grills . Grills and makes char marks like your favorite restaurant by a Gourmet chef . If you don't like yours , I'd love to refurbish that one too , they are better made than the new grills and the regulator is better for heat adjustments . Thanks for the great videos and happy grilling , Oh yeah ! I made a smoker box for wood chips to get the smoky flavor of a charcoal grill ! Life is good ! Porterhouse , Home fried potatoes and eggs for breakfast hot off the grill . 😉👍
On my rv I carry a grill and a Blackstone griddle. I really like the Blackstone. I carry two 5 pounder propane tanks so I do not have to contend with the 1 pounders. However I keep a single 1 lb tank as an emergency backup. Good video.
A Blackstone would be awesome to have. Right now, I have a lodge cast iron griddle that I'll throw on a Coleman white gas stove. It works pretty good, but having the full size Blackstone out back would be a nice addition.
Just bought one for camper . I have a griddle but sometimes a grill will work faster. Thank you for the info ordering some sealant now
Great video! Came here for the same reasons you mentioned. Prefer live fire with charcoal, but sometimes I just want to grill a single steak or chicken for a weekday meal, and want something small, easy to start and two zones for a fast easy and safe cook.
Thanks! I'm in the same boat. I love my charcoal grills, but this one is great for the the smaller meals. I grill a lot more due to this being so easy.
Wow!!!! Thank you so much for this presentation!!! Was looking at getting a replacement for the Coleman on our boat which makes a greasy mess.
My pleasure.
A lot of portable grills have the flaw you fixed with silicone sealant, but this grill and many others also have *another* flaw: when it's windy, the vent slots on the sides causes grease to blow out & drip down the outside. *The now-discontinued Member's Mark portable grill probably has the most notorious reputation for this.* There is one solution that solves this problem (as well as the problem of dripping through the bottom corner seam): add sheet metal deflectors on the inside of the firebox just above the slots, angled inward @ ~ 30° towards the bottom, leaving a gap at the bottom that some air can flow through but grease will drip straight down off the edge. The sheet metal you'll need for this can be scavanged from leftover 'flametamers' or some similar sheet metal.
The wind was an issue in keeping heat, but thankfully it didn't get windy enough to blow grease out. My little foil trick helped mitigate the windy conditions I was grilling in.
Great video. . If u use the adapter and don't use all the gas in the 1lb tank . Can u tank it off without gas leaking out .. or once on there . U have to finish it .
Thanks. You can pop off the tank without wasting gas.
Very good review! I just received my unit today. Thanks, for heads up with the "flaw." You should have actually shown the sealant being applied to specific area. I will order some of that heat silicone.
Thanks. I just wanted to make sure the modification worked before making the video. It's still going strong!
Very informative. Thanks! Any tips/ suggestions for cleaning the grease up after use? I expect storing it without doing so would be a mess.
My pleasure! I use a spray bottle with dish soap/water and a plastic bristled brush to get the big stuff off, then I come in with paper towels to get the rest.
The Cuisinart Chef's Style Stainless Tabletop Grill Model #CGG-306 is the twin of the Pit Master and has the same problem.
did you have a problem with the burner knobs? After the fourth use, the knobs would not generate a spark. When I turn on the gas tank and manually use a lighter, there is hardly gas coming out. I figure, it must be a part defect.
So far the ignition still works on mine. I'd contact the company and see if they can help you out.
Excellent, very helpful video. Thanks, Mike
My pleasure, take care.
What is the match light tool and the hose and regulator for and how to use them?
This has a fixed regulator. Just attach it to your propane tank and let it rip. The match light tool is used if the internal ignition breaks. You light a match, hold it in the tool (extension) and then manually light the burner.
Nice fix! Do you think you could boil a 4 quart pot of water on this Pit Boss grill? And heat up a frying pan enough to cook hashbrowns & eggs? I'm trying to figure out what would be the best 1 cooker solution for power outages... I don't know if that would be a 2 burner coleman stove @20k btu, a 2 burner grill, or a griddle unit. I'd like to be able to do it all with one unit. Which do you think would be best?
This looks like it should throw a lot of btu's with 2 U-burners, vs some other grills that just have 2 single straight rod burners - does it? But is it enough to cook spaghetti, too? lol thanks!
Thanks. As I said in the video, this grill is almost like an oven, in that it requires the lid to be closed in order to build up any respectable level of heat. Boiling water or trying to use it like a stove is not easily done. If you remove the heat deflectors, is is a little better for using like a stove, however my Coleman 2 burner stove does a significantly better job at being a stove than this grill. I purchased a cast iron griddle/grill from Lodge that turns the Coleman stove into a decent flat top or grill in a pinch. I'd definitely recommend going that route it you're looking for a do-all emergency cooking unit.
You should use some of that high temp sealant to also cover some of those vents?
You absolutely could. I do like the temporary option of the aluminum foil though. The vents help when it's not windy.
Great Tutorial! Thanks !!
My pleasure
I always sear at REHE temps 10/10 would recommend
REHE?
Mine gets way too hot I can only use 1 burner as low as it will go and it still runs really hot
Have you tried smoking meat with one burner and a smoke tube and the meat on the opposite side with the burner off?
I haven't. I use this grill for quick foods like hotdogs, sausages, burgers, and the occasional chicken thigh. If I'm going to smoke something, I'll use a different grill. I do love this little thing for how fast and easy it is.
Yeah definitely a design flaw...
What do you bet it's made in China 😮
It's definitely made in China.
The easiest way to overcome the propane grill problems is to Shitcan the piece of shit and cook on wood or charcoal.
Yeah, however a charcoal grill wouldn't be a great idea for a wood deck.
@@ironridgeoutdoors just put a little iron plate down if ur worried... i keep my charcoal grill underneeth a roof in a open shed... so i can grill all year when its raining and stuff... people have to adapt...
