You have to remind yourself that that was live! No auto-tune, no lip-syncing, just a natural and pure beautiful voice.
indeed it was shown live..... however - I have listened to this song a thousand times before and it sounds (a lot) like they used the original studio recording from the album and just got him to lip-synch to it for the show. That was kinda normal practice back then for live TV.
@@joanbaxter-c1z performed live
The 70's weren't ALL drugs and sex and rock n roll, there were also lullabyes and mellow tones.
If and Color My World by Chicago both relaxing.
@@rogue5369 we had it so good in the 60s and 70s music wise. Part of it was because of the draft taking away all of our young men to send them to Vietnam to lose a useless war. I think they want us to be gone. Especially after I found out the truth about 9-11.
Reminds me of a radio station in Oklahoma City that only lasted a few years around the early 2000's called KMMZ, Memories FM...and all it did was this 70s soft rock stuff. Carpenters, Bread, Jim Croce, etc.
Hearing Bread transports me right back to the 70s. Wish I could stay there.
Don't we all?? 😊❤
Your exactly right! My frosh year in college, sitting in bean bag, head phones, dreaming of my future.... would love to go back! Peace from Northern Michigan!
Me too. ✌️❤️
Yeah, so bittersweet for me
You are very right about that!!!!
Everything I Own is one of my all time favorites. Bread is a walking lullaby!
Yes, honoring his late Father.
Also my favorite
Oh yes! Such a beautiful song!!!
He already reviewed it.
@@normaedietrich9410 thanks!
I’m so blessed to have been able to grow up listening to this wonderful music. I’m 59 years old and the song is still beautiful!
I agree .... I still knew all the words ... 61 today!🎉
@@stephaniewarthen HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎈🎈🎈
I"m 70 and I feel just the same way about this era of music as you do. :) Well said.
We were very lucky!
@@stephaniewarthenHappy Birthday
"And when my love for life is running dry, you come and pour yourself on me." One of the greatest lyric lines ever written.
If you want to cry, something everyone should do once a day, EVERYTHING I OWN, a tribute to his deceased father. 💔
He already did a reaction to that one
@@DonnaConner-fk4lm Yes he did, it was one of my favorite reactions! 👍
I truly believe that those of us in their 60s and 70’s know for a fact we had the best music ever ❤
Such a FACT!!!!!! 👍😁🫶
We certainly did.
@@user-oh2hs6jh5x 😁🌷
Amen
David Gates has such a beautiful voice.
I graduated from high school in ''77 we were so blessed to be in the era where real talent and music 🎶 was the norm.
Bread was the music to slow dance to in High School😊
A 1979 grad here, and I completely agree with you 🫶 from Hanover PA

@@333perfection Same.
1977 here too. Riddle Oregon.
I’m 60 years old and this was mine and my boyfriend’s song when we were in middle school. We dated for 2 years, then went our separate ways. 36 years later, we reconnected on Facebook and we’ve now been married almost 9 years. Every time I hear this song I get emotional. So does my husband. Thank you @Black Pegasus! ♥️
That is such a beautiful story ❤
@@sassymess7111 aww thank you. I guess we were meant to be. You’re very sweet.💞
Such a beautiful love story!
I'm not crying...you're crying...I just have something in my eye.
@@unrulyjulie4382 💞💞
Aw Bread!!! This was my wedding song 40 yrs ago. Beautiful song ❤
Mine, too. 1988. "If" and "Time in a Bottle" both.
Beautiful choices!
Mine as well 41 years ago Also Lady by Kenny Rogers
George Harrison once praised this as one of the best love songs ever written. So true. The music is beautiful, but the words are a perfect poem of love and devotion. Everyone dreams of having someone who loves them in this way.
Just a thought BP - this couldn't just be in your "arsenal" when dating. If it doesn't come out organically, it won't work as a line to pull out for the moment.
George was wrong. The best love songs ever written are George’s ‘Something’ via The Beatles. And Paul’s Maybe I’m Amazed via Wings.
Though I concede this is a lovely song and Gates is a fabulous singer.
@@personalcheeses8073 Agree with both you and the original poster. IMHO l think all three songs are amongst the greatest romantic songs EVER. Don't ask me to choose which I think is best...I can't...Awww, I can...I gotta go with "Maybe I'm Amazed". I'm a "Wings" freak...🤣
Wow, if the man who wrote SOMETHING is praising your song who's to argue?😮
@@sassymess7111 Don’t you just love the generosity and respect that acknowledgment shows from one great songwriter to another.
Bread, so many hits when I was in my early 20's. Guitar Man, Baby I'm A Want You, Everything I own...the list goes on. Thank you for making sure that real music lives on.
I was going to recommend the same two songs. you got here first.❤️✌️🌼
Aubrey,
The fact that we are still listening to the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, shows the quality of the artist of those times. I was looking at my Spotify play lists and I don't have anything after 1997
And now this beautiful voice is singing to his cows on his ranch in Washington state, still married to his sweetheart.
I have had migraines my entire life. Used to be no help for those back in the day. Used to draw a hot bath and listen to the best of bread. Only relief I had. Nothing better.
I got thru kidney stones with Steely Dan, lol. The power of music.
Countdown To Ecstasy
You've reacted to Bread before.. I think I actually wrote my first comment after " Everything I Own" in my opinion the most amazing dedication to a loved one who passed.
The first recording David Gates made was Jo-Baby in 1957. He recorded it to impress a girl named Jo Rita. They are still together
I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me ☺️❤
That is so sweet.
My favorite part is the ending:
"And one by one,
the stars would all go out.
Then you and I
would simply fly away"
Poetry set to music. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. One of the finest singer-songwriters of all time.
I once sang this song six nights a week at a lounge in my small town. A very polite gentleman tipped me five dollars a night to play and sing this beautiful piece of music. It reminded him of his late wife of 35 years. He finally quit coming in because he went to be with her. I had all but forgotten it. Thanks for the memory.❤😢
Thank you for sharing ... so sad.
Everything I own. Brings me to tears. Everytime
Absolutely beautiful love song.❤
"The Musical Time Machine" is he name of the BBC program that this was on.
Thank you. I thought it was obvious myself, but he seemed to be struggling with that one, LOL
@@jeffreyboyer3714I know! Oh, my goodness!
This is the most beautiful song about love, sung by one of the most beautiful voices ever. No worries. If you could have sung those words in that voice, stalking would have been the last thing on any womans' mind. Regarding my favorite song by Bread, this would be a toss-up with " Everything I own." That song was written by him for his father who had passed away. I read the story a long time ago; he was close to his dad, and his father had passed away while he was on tour Thank you so much for this. It is a wonderful feeling to hear a great song that one hasn't heard in a long time, and it takes you to a better place...at least for a little while.
Wow, I am all of a sudden 16 years old, sitting on the second row, center, with my very best friend, watching this man, in the very first concert I ever went to. 1977. My blessed Daddy (RIP) stood in line to get the tickets for me so I would not have to skip school.
David Gates Songbook is a work of pure perfection, the complete writer producer and singer.
Oh, this granny remembers that time in my life that bread was on the radio. Growing up in the 70's was the best. I'm sorry y'all didn't get the chance to experience rock n roll as it came out. Our minds were blown on a constant basis.
Being weeks away from 75 ...you can keep the mentality of women nowadays. I take pride in having a strong man to take care of me...I take care of him. We go through life together, side by side. True partners, lovers and caretakers. I feel love & blessed.
Lucky you!
You said it, sister! I'm 65, and I have one of those wonderful men too!
My sister in-law went to school with him & Leon Russell. David & Leon had a band together in HS & even after they'd tour together with Jerry Lee Lewis. Can anyone imagine letting your 15/16 year old sons perform in clubs around the Country??? She also knew Gailard Sartain & Gary Busey who used to do a Saturday night show call Mazeppa Pappazoidi, my brother went to school with Busey & my sister in-law knew Gailard through preforming at the Tulsa Theater. These songs have a special place in my heart, the music I grew up with, the music of the 70's & 80's!! The BEST & their wasn't a moment that my record player or radio wasn't on!!
My favorite Bread song EVER! A thing of beauty. The song is named "If." Musical Time Machine is the name of the BBC show.
This is one of the most beautiful love songs I have ever heard. Profound and thoughtful lyrics set to a simple melody sang by an angelic voice. This song is timeless.
Perfectly said 🫶
Bread is one of my all time favorites.
It's refreshing to see someone listening and appreciating these classics.😂
1975..walking in mall in Orange Park, Fl; I was stopped in my tracks when hearing this song being played in record store. My goodness, ripped my heart up. So beautiful.❤
"Bread"!! "Bread"!! "Bread"!! SWEET SWEET SONGS OF THE 70's!!
His voice is mesmerizing! It would be a great calming song for the baby hell, it’s a great soothing song for anyone! Great reaction!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
This may be one of the best written love songs ever, BP. Then you add David Gates voice and emotion, it will always stand up well for generations to come. I agree with you about the best line of the song being: "If a man could be two places at one time I'd be with you, tomorrow and today.." If you haven't listened to it yet, check out "Guitar Man." By the way, Wings of Pegasus is the name of the band that "Fil" is a member of, in England. Check him out sometime.
"If" is one Bread's greatest. As a fellow Army Brat, you need to checkout David Gates solo Song "Goodbye Girl."
I can't believe I forgot all about "Goodbye Girl". I loved that movie and the song, so TY for bringing it back to my attention. ...Tonight, I plan to watch the movie again!😄
@@rubyslippers8215 One of my favorite "Richard Dreyfuss roles.
I am 74 and Bread was the first concert I could afford to go to. They recorded the album this song was on at that concert. I will never forget. You just wanted to cry. Every song was so beautiful. Any of their songs you want to play are just fine with me. Thank you for this.
I say it often, but I grew up with the best music, and I took it for granted that it would always be this good.
David Gates, so gifted as a Singer and Songwriter!
That's David Gates. Beautiful voice. Beautiful love song. At 72, it still brings tears to my eyes. Bread was underrated in my opinion. They had great songs. Fil is Wings of Pegasus. He is in the UK. He is a musician, sings, plays the guitar, covers songs, and analyzes voices with software. And he is a really nice guy. Well worth the watch. Been following him for some time.
When music was not filtered, was pure with nothing to help you, but that beautiful voice that you have… That’s what the music was back then thank God we can still listen to it
Bread have so many beautiful songs. 🎶🎶👍
David and his wife are still together 66 years❤❤❤❤❤
My husband then boyfriend in 1974 would ride around in his Pontiac listening to this on eight track. Together almost 50 years great memories.
The reason why I was one of the people that requested this song is because my dad used to sing this to me to get me to get me to sleep when I was little...so your comment about your little girl was perfect. ☺️
I haven't heard this is decades and decades. I forgot how beautiful this was.
57 now and this still takes me back to my childhood. Hearing it play through the house. Taking me to a different place.
You can get lost in the lyrics of any Bread song! They just have that ability to cut deep in your soul.
Wings of Pegasus is a great channel, too. His love of music shines through & he is so thoughtful when he reviews voices, pitch, phrasing, etc. Learn a lot from him. He started a movement to end pitch correction in old music & current.
Agreed, Fil really knows his stuff!👏
'Diary' is one of my favs
Bread's music is beautiful snd soothing 🥰
Man, that song literally gives me goose bumps every time. So beautiful.
Ever since I first heard this song in middle school it has always made me cry.
After all these years, I still remember the lyrics. Bread was one of my favorite bands in the 70's.
Played this as our first dance at my wedding. 28 years later were still together....such a good song.
I'm so glad that God allowed me to grow up in that era where music was enjoyed by ALL. THE SINGERS jammed and learned from each other and we got to experience the outcome in our music.
The music wasn't stolen but shared.
Bread was such an incredible group who wrote the sweetest love songs, really miss them.
R.I.P. David❤️🕊.
Thanks B.P.
Hope you listen to some Air Supply.
68, and every time I hear Bread, it still gives me goosebumps
Please react to Bread singing
“Everything I Own” written by David which is about his dad.
Picture it, Aug 1982. I was slouched down on the front seat of our Chrysler Cordoba, trying to get through the long car ride from Fallon to Reno NV.... In labor with my first child. Breads greatest hits played the whole time and got me through the most painful time of my life that far.
Even if I end up with Dementia, I will never forget that special memory.❤
It is a musical time machine - pulled me right back to when I was 10 listening to this in my grandmother's Plymouth Fury. 1975.
This is the music I grew up with. And there was so much incredible music that I’m ashamed that I took it all for granted. Now, I’m in awe of the musicians that poured so much beauty into our lives.
David and bread are the premier epitomy of soft rock . I was a freshman in high school when the started these hits . Here 50 years later I'm still listening to them. Timeless masterpieces. Way to go pegasus's
If you want to come damn close to crying, listen to Aubrey. Hauntingly beautiful.
One of my all time favourite songs by Bread. I was 9 yrs old when this song came out. This song is on my “love song” playlist 💕
the weird thing is his idealism in love is consistent in his lyrics. and his voice-- how can he do that
Love Bread! ❤Everything I Own was the 1st suggestion I ever sent to you & I’m so glad you’re loving them as much as I do! 🤩
David Gates is a Tulsa Oklahoma native, while attending Will Rogers High School he was in a band with a classmate, Claude Russell Bridges aka Leon Russell, ton of great music came from Tulsa in the late 60s and early 70s
It's almost pure poetry.....beautiful sentiments ❤
Bread did another song called “Diary” that will just rip your heart out and stomp on it 😢. That same mournful voice just takes us to a sad sad place. They had some happier songs too. 😁🌸
Bread was one of those jems your fortunate to find. His voice is soothing like a warm hug. Butter. I too was glad I grew up with such diverse music that is timeless.
Such an incredibly beautiful voice! Stunning live performance, just his angelic vocals and guitar. Perfection!
David Gates had a Solo Career after Bread. One of my Favorites by David Gates is "Goodbye Girl" There was a Movie as well. I know you'll love it.
Immediate goosebumps. Love the music from back in the days
If I had had a voice coach/teacher like Wings of Pegasus - I would probably STILL be in the music business!! He does AMAZING insights to songs/artists - showing how it all comes together!~!! Love him & You & Sebs & Rob Squad!!! you folks are all my guilty pleasures!!!
Wings of Pegasus is a Britt and is across the pond. He's a good kid. I've seen a lot of his break downs. That being said, Bread did a TV Special in the land down under that was a beautiful one hour show. You don't have to watch the whole show though, and can pull up one song from it on this format you tube. There is one song that you really should see. It's one were the drummer sings a banger you may have heard by Little Richard called '' Long Tall sally'' It is amazing. Thanks for all you do for everybody. '' long distance fist bump'' from Texas
David Gates has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jo Rita Gates, for over 64 years. The man lived his lyrics. Fil of Wings of Pegasus is great...very informative and positive reactions. You and he would be a fantastic pair! Each of you bring something different to your reactions. I try to follow both of you, depending on what you are reacting to.
BREAD IS AMAZING
Fantastic natural voice.... no alterations!!! What a love song.
I’ve loved this song my whole life. It’s so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes. The lyrics are so sweet and so unique and poetic.
Love BREAD...they are the best.
His voice is like an angel he has such a beautiful voice I grew up listening to bread
He loved her in the beginning , she marks the beginning for him , of them , he’s there alone and still thinking of her , he’s wishing he could be in two places at once both with her . And in the end of times , he wants to be with eternally !
Musical Time Machine is the name of the tv program he’s on, I would think. You are absolutely right about his voice though. Soothing is probably the best one word description for his voice.
The voice of David Gates was one of the most pure tenors the 70's or 80's produced.
Man, you just plugged into the honey of the times....those songs that defined the best of the era, those songs that made you feel real good.
Bread came out when in what was still the top 100 on AM radio in our cars and just before the album oriented rock that Tom Donahue switched us to on FM radio like KSAN in San Francisco. Definitely plug into Bread. They were a great band making beautiful music. And I really enjoy your reactions. Our generation may have dug these songs everyday on our radios, but your generation gets to revisit several decades of music as it has revolved. I'm glad I'm still here to see who m music of my youth still moves people today. From a sixty six year old son-of-a-bitch. use this in a quote if you may.
One of the best voices in the business. David Gates and Karen Carpenter’s voices are like velvet
Their song Diary will throw you for a loop.
My dad used to play Bread on Sundays . I loved him, I loved this music and this makes me think of him. Thanks.
That's so nice to hear! Thanks for your sweet comment!🌷
WOW!!! I haven't heard this song in years but the instant I heard his voice I remembered EVERY word, every note, every pause... Dang, I really must LOVE this song from when it was newly released!!! Ya, I really have loved it forever.. ✨💖✨
One of the most beautiful love songs. This song always melts my heart. The 70s were great.
Still gives me chills….chokes me up and brings me right back to childhood!
Fil, the Wings of Pegasus, has the most joyous face as he listens to the music. Completely different vibe, so don't worry about competition!!
I love this song so much. Bread was a very awesome band. David had a very good voice. Love your reaction!
You are on a roll for great voices and songs the last few days.
Timeless classic.
Thanks for sharing.
Lost Without Your Love, Everything I Own, Diary, Aubry, Sweet Surrender, The Guitar Man... so many great songs to choose from!
I'm here for both my Pegasus guys. What you and he do is completely different: you react and he analyzes.
