What a lovely railway. Really enjoyed this. I always seem to watch your videos when I'm not well but it's probably the only time I stop. A cheerful film. Thankyou.
Thank you, it's nice to know you enjoyed it. I wish I'd taken a photo of the driver's face when I fixed a camera to his locomotive, he must have thought I was mad, but give him credit, he still smiled and said "OK".
This is probably the most beautiful narrow guage line I've seen, such a beautiful forest you go through, with amusement parks, restaurants etc on the side, wish I could go and explore that beauty
Excellent video. Some remarks from a viennese: Krauss delivered three steam locos, the third had been severely bomb damaged in 1945. In 1962 the remaining frame has been repurposed as Diesel loco D2, with similar engine (Steyr WD 213). Steam parts not needed (cylinder blocks, pistons, driving rods, levers) are still in stock. With its destinctive wheelbase (2´C 1´) still a beauty, but seldomly used. Some years ago, there were plans to reconstruct the loco back to steam, alas without tender. The diesels run with used oil from the fritters of "Schweizerhaus" restaurant!
Hello, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video and thanks for the information about the locomotive history, I was able to find some information on the internet, but there were gaps and maybe the odd error. The Wikipedia articles were interesting, especially the one covering the Giant Ferris Wheel which only exists today because it was too expensive to demolish after it was damaged in WW2. The railway makes a point of letting people know that its diesel locomotives run on oil from the restaurants and cafes dotted around the park, it’s good to know that the old oil doesn’t go to waste.
I know how you feel, there is a park close to my home with a railway running round it, trouble is my children have all flown the nest now and I feel a bit silly riding the train on my own, although I occasionally borrow kids from other family members so that I can treat them and myself to a ride around the park 😉.
I think I'm too old now for some of those rides, especially the roller coaster with the waltzer style spinning cars, my lunch would be making a bid for freedom 🥴.
Wonderful railway thru the really beautiful park, Your never to old for the rides at the amusement park, Thanks Tim for another great journey, Will you be coming down for our summer? cheers Bob.🦐🦞🏖☀🍺🍺
Hello Robert, I'm glad you enjoyed riding the Prater Park railway, it was a shame that both steam locomotives were out of action, it would have been the icing on the cake to have had one of them up front. For the moment my travel plans have been curtailed by a combination of the American IRS and TH-cam making claiming to avoid double taxation very difficult, last time it was a simple process, this time they are asking for a tax/residence certificate from the British Tax authorities, I've no idea why as my National Insurance Number and my Unique Tax Reference number both prove I pay tax to the British tax man and I also have to register with the Irish Tax man because Google operates out of Ireland to make use of the low tax agreement it negotiated with the Irish government. A lot of smaller creators will be put off claiming by all the legal jargon, meaning they will either have to pay 24% of their total earning from TH-cam to the American IRS or opt to pay 30% of their earning from American viewers. How many small TH-cam channels can afford to do as Google suggests which is to hire a tax lawyer. My guess is that the IRS knows that a lot of creators won't claim for the various tax agreements between country’s allowing them to pocket between 24% to 30% of their total earnings. Imagine what would happen if every country in the world did the same as the American IRS. Cheers. Tim 😊🍻.
Hi Tim! Hammer good video 👍. I know this sounds from the diesel engine👌. The diesel locomotive has exactly the same engine as my Steyr tractor, type 180, built in 1947. It's a Wd213 and he has 26 HP / 1600 rpm, and 30 HP / 1750 rpm. 2 cylinders and 2661 cubik centimeters. Best motor ever, run without problems. Best regards from the Mühlviertel, Hans 🍻🇦🇹.
Hello Hans, I'm pleased you enjoyed the sound of the Prater Park diesel locomotive. The engine made easy work of the task in hand, the gentle sound of an old fashioned diesel engine is very relaxing, like music to the ears. I bet you miss driving your Steyr tractor and giving onlookers a cheery wave as you drove through the village with a trailer full of old wooden pallets. Cheers. Tim 😊.
Amazing video. I was there when I was a kid and it was amazing. Really love the diesel engines they have there. Do you also visited the other miniature railway "Donauparkbahn"?
Hi, it's nice to know you enjoyed the video, I'm glad it brought back good memories from your childhood visit. Sadly I didn't see the "Donauparkbahn", maybe next time 😊.
The Ferris wheel circumference was held in place by relatively thin rods in tension, like the spokes of a bicycle wheel on a massive scale, as an engineer myself, I found it both fascinating and impressive.
The Viennese 15" railways in the Prater and Donaupark are actually still mainly operated with diesel locomotives from the 1950s. A special one is the D2, which was built from the steam locomotive Da3. In the future, however, electric locomotives or hydrogen locomotives (prototype can be seen at 0:29) can be operated. The steam locomotives Da1 and Da2 are also allowed to do their rounds in the Prater about once a month...
Hello Andrei, I am trying hard to keep making videos, to be able to carry on I need to find a way to be get accepted for the USA/UK tax agreement, last time I had no trouble, this time it is proving difficult to comply with the UK, Ireland and USA tax authorities, apparently 1.8 million creators have been rejected and for some reason Google think that's a reasonable figure. For the moment Google have taken the fun out of making videos and I can't help feeling that new creators might be put off, along with a number of existing creators. I have enough material to complete around 8 videos, then I'm off to India to film the toy trains. If I manage to sort my tax affairs out, I'll publish the Indian videos on TH-cam and if I fail I'll publish them on a pay per view platform. I really enjoy interacting with viewers, they are a great bunch of people and I'd really miss them if I'm forced to publish my videos elsewhere. I really appreciate your support. Cheers. Tim.
I can remember last year or so there was an accident because i think a car drove into it and derailed it... But i cant remember so good... There was a derailment ik that but i cant remember why tho...
Hi, that sounds like an unfortunate incident, there are a number of level crossings. I hope no one was hurt in derailment you mentioned in your comment.
