How to Crochet a Waffle Beanie:
Crochet Hook: G/4.25MM
Yarn: Size 4, Medium Weight Wool (I am working with the Cascade Yarns)
Attach yarn to crochet hook using a Magic Circle (MC).
Row 1: CH 1, place 1 SC then 1 DC until you have 10 total st (5 of each).
Row 2: Working in a continuous loop or spiral pattern, place 1 SC + 1 DC in each st in the row (20 total st).
Row 3: *1 SC in st 1, 1 DC + 1 SC in st 2, 1 DC in st 3, 1 SC + 1 DC in st 4.* Repeat around the row (30 total st).
Row 4: *1 DC in st 1, 1 SC in st 2, 1 DC + 1 SC in st 3.* Repeat around the row (40 total st).
Row 5: *1 SC in st 1, 1 DC in st 2, 1 SC in st 3, 1 DC + 1 SC in st 4, 1 DC in st 5, 1 SC in st 6, 1 DC in st 7, 1 SC + 1 DC in st 8.* Repeat around the row (50 total st).
Row 6: *1 SC in st 1, 1 DC in st 2, 1 SC in st 3, 1 DC in st 4, 1 SC + 1 DC in st 5.* Repeat around the row (60 total st).
Row 7: *1 DC in st 1, 1 SC in st 2, 1 DC in st 3, 1 SC in st 4, 1 DC in st 5, 1 SC + 1 DC in st 6, 1 SC in st 7, 1 DC in st 8, 1 SC in st 9, 1 DC in st 10, 1 SC in st 11, 1 DC + 1 SC in st 12.* Repeat around the row (70 total st).
Row 8: Place 1 DC + 1 SC in the first st, then alternate between DC and SC for the next 26 rows. Stitches should always be the opposite from the previous row.
