How about Power Girl becoming an Atlantean after Crisis On Infinite Earths, Black Canary having her mother’s memories implanted inside her, Wonder Woman just starting out as a hero after Crisis On Infinite Earths, etc.
Things with the second Black Canary is definitely cringy, you've a daughter with all her mother's memories meaning she has all the wrong kinds of memories and feelings about her father. Even for back then it's baffling how they failed to consider those things at the time.

Just like everyone else, you failed to mention that when Sue was wearing that costume, an entity known as Malice was in charge of Sue's body. The costume change was a reflection of that. Yes, it was still an excuse to give Sue a "sexier'" look, but you can't say it goes against Sue's character because Sue wasn't making the decisions. Sue is the mother, Malice is not.
I think, that, Sue changed her costume to make Reed jealous for ignoring her due to his interests in science..
What is a good way to make your spouse jealous is to wear a skimpy outfit, and have people stare at you, and if that didn't make jealous, then I feel sorry for Sue !!!

While I agree he forgot to mention that part, but it doesn't change that her character has changed, they just wrote in a reason for it. In the end, your character does what the writer says it does.

I enjoyed Penance. For a long time, we didn’t know for sure who he was. His powers were different than Speedball’s, and his name was so much better than a euphemism for illicit drugs.
I was hoping he’d stick around a bit longer.
Two words, WONDER GIRL. Try sorting that mess out. Donna Troy has had like six rebooted origins, non of which fit either the pre or post zero hour timeline.
Because DC editorial had to reboot Wonder Woman as a hero who is just starting out after Crisis On Infinite Earths.
I would chalk that one up for "really bad Editorial Staff who didn't read their own comics", it's not really like this top 10 which is changes to existing characters. DC did this a few times IIRC.
Her and Hawkman probably top the list for retcons. Some of which made things worse, and didn’t help.
As a then-teenage comics fan in the '90s who previously had little if any interest in the FF, I have to admit that Sue Storm's makeover worked. There, I said it, alright?

Penance was a good change for Speedball. He was a playable character in Ultimate Alliance 2.
Not even remotely, it was so incredibly bad some writers even mocked the idea about how 'hey I'm now deep!' he was somehow supposedly to be because he went from a happy sort to a masochistic brooding downer.

@@HELLO_KORO except he didn't, Nitro was always a psychotic killer who got off on detonating himself to kill people and thanks to plot armor always gets to come back to murder more people. Heck that entire deal was bad writing all on its own, having the New Warriors engaging in moronic reality-TV style bounty hunting especially Speedball with at least one lawyer parent who would have never done something so stupid as try and capture someone like Nitro in a populated area.
I enjoyed Penance. Besides, at least he wasn't named after the mixing of cocaine and heroin anymore.

My least favorite change, hawkeye wears his mcu outfit, it’s like how you doin cool kids level bad, go back to the outfit, it looks better
Don't forget pretty much 😉😘every change made while the MCU was active between Iron Man and Endgame, most comics characters were RETCONed into unrecognizability
the movies are their own universe, they are allowed to have differences, just like there are differences between the main comic universe and the ultimate comics universe
@@A-Microwave i think they're talking about how they released some comics and did some retcons to others based on the mcu. . i think one of the most popular was making tony stark look more like robert downey jr. . though they often change characters appearance to try and fit with the times.
Prof x could walk after his power was cut off, the D.C comics character triumph who was a waste and bloodmoon or whatever this weak attempt at a new black super hero was who turned out to be martian manhunter in disguise then they breifly made the hero real...then forgot..I can't even recall the name just the dumb red and white costume merging worst aspects of Dr Strange and supermans costumes..

It was Kathy Kane, the first Batwoman, who dated Bruce pre-Crisis and pre-Flashpoint before Kate and Bette Kane were retconned into being Bruce’s cousins post-Flashpoint, even though they weren’t related to Bruce pre-Flashpoint.

If you go back and look one of the common character changes that happened back in the 80's and 90's is: The Leather Jacket!
Wonder Woman got one briefly as did Superboy. The Avengers of the 90's had a whole slew of them. Marvvel in general in the 90's LOVED the Leather Jacket! Guy Gardner was reinvented and GREEN Leather Jacket!(although in Guy's case it really was an improvement).
If your character change/introduction/reintroduction had to be edgy then expect that charcter to have a Leather Jacket!
It became so pathetically obvious what was being attempted by creators that to me whenever I saw a cover with the new and improved Superhero and they were wearing a Leather Jacket! it was a HARD PASS for me at the comic shop.
And Animal Man got a denim jacket. (As an animal rights activist, he was anti-leather.)

I liked Penance. It wasn't about "being edgy". It was about self-hate, guilt, torture, and wanting to apologize; something many of us can relate to. Also, each spike represented each person that was killed so he would always be reminded of what happened. It didn't exist for no reason. I thought it was very interesting.

Yes that was really stupid, that somehow a newborn child somehow wishes he was really a mutant to feel special when it was a long time before he even was old enough to know what a mutant was and many X-men stories set in the future dealt with him being a mutant and clearly scanning as such even when he had no powers at all.

not dumb. just the retcon for the infinity stones from the MCU. in guardians of the galaxy no mere mortal could handle them directly. a few movies later anyone could handle them easily
theory with no evidence: ability to wield stones is measured similar to worthiness für mjolnir, quill post- infinity war would probably be able to handle the power stone better than the end of gotg. thor in thor 1 would be unable to weile a stone, but in endgame could probably handle all 6. etc
That was the power stone that almost killed them. The power stone has infinite energy. Not even Thanos could hold that stone for more than a few seconds without starting to be ripped apart. But to be honest their strength was actually improved in the movie. In the comics pretty much anyone of adequate strength could carry one around without much danger to themselves.
I liked the Superman Blue look. But then most of that affection comes from Grant Morrison making the most of the change during his run on Justice League where he played to the strengths of the change having Clark utilize his powers creatively, like when he wired himself into the moon.

Sure, you could just say "all the reinventions from/since the New52" were terrible--and the vast majority of them are--but that CassINO is by far the worst of the lot.

Pretty sure Penance's outfit also had spikes inside bot just the outside. Part of the whole point of the character (and the name). I didn't dislike Penance at all, I was just a big fan of Speedball
It did. One spike for each of the people killed in the explosion.
Also note there was zero mention that the explosion was considerably bigger and more powerful because of the Tinker being involved. At least, I think it was the Tinker. He was supercharged at the time, and no one knew it until it was too late.
I think penance is actually kinda dope you explained it strange to make it seem bad. He was put into prison after civil war and then shot while testifying before Congress and the he decided to make a new suit with 612 internal spikes to remind him constantly of the 612 people who lost there lives because of his recklessness. He’s driven by guilt and shame and feels he needs to be punished therefore goes by penance
Same stupid lists about the same things with no real reasons why they did some of these things or it was a thing of it's time and just about all of them were doing it.
Like sue replaced her suit due influence of malice and fed on sues frustration with reed.

Fun fact the entire reason sue made that costume was because she wanted romantic time with Reed. Reed Richards of course was completely oblivious. I’m not even kidding.

I recall I point in time when Iron Man's helmet had a nose on it for pretty much no reason.
Well it had a reason, just a dumb one. Apparently some artists had reached the point of drawing Iron Man's helmet as the same size as a human head, which would be impossible since it'd need to be larger so when Stan mentioned 'where's his nose?' to point out the helmet needs to be larger they instead bizarrely started giving him a nose instead. One issue Stark as Iron Man shows up at a sci-fi convention and a congoer actually confronts him about the 'poor suit with the nose' and Stark replies that he was trying to be authentic. Eventually the problem got resolved thankfully.

Dr. Fate, a magic man with the best helmet ever, became kewl Fate, with a knives and a glowing eye like Cable's.
And a bandaged arm restraining a demonic essence.
Currently, they've written my favourite comic book character, Beast, as an apathetic monster who doesn't care about anyone he might harm all for his experiments. That's as far from the character as can be and makes him more like his evil age of apocalypse counterpart
right it's suppose to be his confidence and desire to help as fast as possible that ends up causing trouble. not him being so uncaring and indifferent he's practically a new character.
You missed the context on the Sue Richards one. It's supposed to be ridiculous and inappropriate. She'd absorbed a dark version of herself with worse fashion sense (black leather and spikes) and the outfit she only had for a year was that side asserting dominance. It was dumb, but unlike the rest of the list, morr parody than something to be taken seriously.
I actually liked feral Wolverine a lot. Was so dope they made action figures out of feral Wolverine.. plus it’s part a dope story line from genesis to the return of apocalypse during onslaughts time

No, the whole point of Penance was to eliminate a happy, well-adjusted character because 'oh no that's not all cynical and edgy and deep!' They did the same exact thing to Slapstick.
@@sabreeemneely which as was noted completely undermined and destroyed the entire point of the character just being a mutant human with a demonic appearance. Instead of it being a way to condemn judging him as not human based on his appearance (as Stryker does during the climax of God Loves, Man Kills) it made everyone completely right and completely undermined his point being in the X-men since he wasn't even human anymore.

Say what you want about Invisible Womans 90s costume, but nothing is dumber than Thors 90s costume.
You missed the best part of Speedball/Penance story - he had a cat named Niels, also "super", and after the blast, Penance put him in a iron suit with spikes, and started calling him "P-Cat, the Penitant Puss"! Absolutely the most idiotic thing you can imagine, even Squirrel Girl thought it was stupid.
It wasn't Apocalypse that gave Wolverine back his adamantium! It was The Leader!
That Vibe character looks a bit like Wonder Man.
Here are some of my ideas
1. Making black cat , speed & mystique bi
2. Making alan scott and other characters gay
3 jean grey making ice man gay
4. Turning she hulk and red she hulk into masculin steriod taking body builders.
5. That conveluted plot to make nightcrawler pope.
6. Mephisto undoing spidey wedding.
7. Iron fist giving up his powers
8. Everthing with new 52 Batwoman
9. Making kid flash the murder in heroes in crisis
10. Having catwoman call the wedding off with batman.
Left out the part where Speedball was held responsible for the tragedy of Nitro’s explosion. His family disowned him, he became “The Most Hated Man in America”, the government and even She-Hulk (who knows more than a little bit about carnage happening that you have no control over) pressured him to sign a confession, he lost his powers and was put in prison where the guards and prisoners abused him, and he was shot by an assassin in a scene that tastelessly was a recreation of Ruby shooting Oswald. Heap that much crap on anybody and they’d feel bad about himself and want to hurt himself. Throw in the manipulations and exploitations of Norman Osborn, constant reminders of the people who died, and it’s a miracle he didn’t off himself. The only people who seemed to give him a break were Doc Samson (the psychiatrist) and Nova, who met Penance on a visit from space and was so horrified by what they’d done to his upbeat friend that he left IMMEDIATELY to fly back into space for good.
Ah yes, the eternal nightmare of Chuck Austen. I think the insult to this injury is that a few non-Chuck Austen writers have used Azazel (in the First Class film, Nightcrawler’s last ongoing that brought him back after dying in 2nd coming) and all of them are better than Austen’s.
That time DC decoded to make Batman the ultimate invincible superhero above all laws of reason, physics and common sense.

There likely are hundreds of better examples they could of used…but part of me thinks that’s the point. Pick a few bad ones and skip a few obvious ones to get the comments rolling to improve “engagement”
Honestly Sue's 90s costume felt like something Johnny or She Hulk probably came up with for themselves but at the last minute didn't want to go through with it but since it cost so much to make Sue decided to get the money's worth out of it.

I find it kind of weird how many of these changes seem to boil down to disliking costumes. I was expecting changes more akin to one more day, or hydra Steve.
Wolverine getting bone claws was a stupid retcon, they somehow went completely undetected for decades!
They just couldn't let him have any vulnerability, had to upgrade an already decent character.
As much as I agree it doesn't make sense for Sue to walk around and fight crime in a swimsuit,
I wish they made more alternative costumes to all heroes, even the males.
Some more casual, some more armored, some for just training (like shirts, shorts, tops, etc).
Let's be honest, would the heroes ALWAYS use the same looking costume EVERY SINGLE day of the week?
I recently saw a Samus concept of a top and shorts for training/workout, and I think that really makes sense.
It's the kind of thing I'd expect from the Human Torch, Iron-Man, Batman and many others.
But it seems like they only change costumes when they change either the movie or the book.

How about '90s Batman? After the events of Knightfall, a broken Bruce Wayne handed the mantle of Batman to Jean Paul Valley (aka Azrael) who turned Batman into an armored Batman who brutalized villains.

While I admit Linda Danvers/ Matrix/ Earthbound Angel of Fire Supergirl was convoluted in nature her adventures and powers and abilities in each form were pretty fun at times. Kinda want them to make a comeback if their origin is ever streamlined. Although with Omniverse I guess they're fully cannon again.
