Whelen Tornado Siren Ambiance (ASMR) + Activation Tones | TORNADO WARNING | Columbus Ohio

  • During a state wide tornado watch, I began recording before the sirens went to alert in Franklin County and Dublin (The sirens that are heard in the video). Three tornadoes touched down in Circleville, about 20 miles south from the location I recorded from. Because of that, the sirens were re activated to wail/attack, to warn of imminent danger. The tornado passed with out casualties and the sirens were deactivated across the county. You can find more about this storm here www.weather.go...
Hopefully there will be some storms this summer as well, I really enjoyed recording this.

Reading through the documentation for these sirens and controllers, what the first tone / last tone is is the controller telling the sirens what to do. In this case, 753####1D1 and 753####1DD, the Wail and Cancel functions. the two-three other sets are the Siren's telemetry data, data saying where the siren is for, it's ID, what it's doing, it's battery's voltage, and so on. This also explains why the middle ones are much longer, because there's a lot more data to be sent.
    EX:
the start code, 753####1D1, is broken down like so:
753 - Area code (Sirens in this city or County)
    #### - Siren Code (This one means ALL SIRENS)
    1 - "Authentication bit"
D1 - The Function. This is what says "DO THIS!" (In this case, Wail)
The end bit is Similar, 753####1DD:
    753
    ####
    1
    DD (Cancel)

@@DatamasterCorporation Oh yea, If you want to recreate these tones, (For a mock or something like that) the mark time (Or time that the tones are playing) are 40 milliseconds or 2/50th of a second, and the space time (Or time of silence between each tone) is 20 milliseconds, or 1/50th of a second.
So in this case it would be 7(40msec) space (20msec) 5(40msec) space (20msec) 3(40msec) space (20msec) ect...

Franklin county has only used Wail one time during a tornado warning as far as I can remember, and I think it was a mistake (and I might've been hearing something else). Dublin's system of Whelen 2x05s goes off in Wail for emergencies, or at least tornado warnings. However, I've heard their sirens clearly from my house, and I live about 4 miles away from the nearest Dublin siren.

    • @DatamasterCorporation
      @DatamasterCorporation  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jeremydunn6089 Columbus is pretty stingy about it, I've heard them use wail once. The rest of the time it was just alert for weather events. Dublin has a pretty clear distinction, alert for watches, wail for warnings.

Dublin’s only do wail during tornado warnings and short alert for tests.
