    Every vehicle I have has a battery tender on it... Never a dead battery anymore! My car battery is going on 9 years and has the original battery cranking! I live in Northern half of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
    I have battery tenders on my gas generator; riding lawnmowers; jet skis batteries; boat battery; summertime convertible; motorcycle; and a Benz parked in the winter. Park them: connect the battery; walk away, they'll start when the time comes!

    Of the many things I loved about Alberta, was that dry fluffy snow. At UofC was gob-smacked (used to sloppy Montreal winters) watching the snow being brushed off the sidewalks and roads on campus. But that piercing cold...... rushing from building to building to try to evade it.

    Done the same since since about 1990. In 2020 I upgraded to a UTV with heater, extra lights, and home made wing on one side.. Pushes twice the snow much faster. Did buy a new atv at the same point and it's set up to plow as well, but use it more for pushing wind rows of pine needles in the summer.

    Tracks and a flex plow blade is the way to go if using a quad. Pile high and leave edges smooth so wind blows straight across and doesn’t dump more in the driveway.

    You can cut your time down by re-angling the plow at the end of each run and plowing on the way back. This way you’re plowing on every pass. I can’t tell what setup you have but I have a 2013 Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS with a Warn 60” tapered plow on a front mount. The tapered plow really throws the snow when angled properly.

    Mr. MartyUpNorth seems alright. That's what snow plow looks like. Cubes of snow per minute seems like the main concept of energy vs engineering. Hope I am able to fit my All Terrain snow plow onto my truck. Thinking about using a electric thread to lift & set the blade height.

  • @wannabejeeper
    @wannabejeeper 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Hell of a setup you've got there! Looks like a set of tire chains would probably help a fair bit... not only for pushing, but steering as well. Or, if you want to cut your time down a nice 30-40hp tractor with heated cab and front mounted snowblower would be the hot ticket! ; )

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NS Gearhead properly done, an atv will finish faster than a tractor in less than 1/2 the time. Remember, unless you're pushing 10"+ of heavy wet snow with an atv...on a driveway like his, tou can plow at fairly high speeds (15-18 mph). Tractor with a blower is maybe 2-3 mph at best.

    I have a 400 ft ash fault driveway I had a can am quad we had 13in first year we lived there 3 times in 2014. I couldn't barely get it done. I sold the quad bought a 95 k2500 Silverado with 120000 miles on it. Never had the problem again. It's just easier. Or put a plow on one of your trucks we seen on video there will be a time you wont be able to push snow but with a truck you'll be able to do anything maybe not 48in though.

      yup. we have to be plated and registered, here in B.C. also, yet that doesn't allow us to use them on the roads, figure that one out. we can ride in the bush and on the bush roads and have to, by law, wear a helmet at all times. but, people can zip all over town on their handicap scooters, disregarding all rules of the road and don't have to be plated or wear any safety equipment, and, most all of them are surely "impaired" by meds and poor eyesight, etc. Canada is great, but many of our laws just leave one scratching their head. it's all just cash-grabs.

    Few things you'll (hopefully) learn about plowing with an atv.
    1) ALWAYS run a battery maintainer during the winter. Otherwise you'll always have a dead battery and you'll eventually wind up cooking your stator from trying to charge and running the winch/fan/lights.
    2) see #1

      The truth is that I like doing this. Just like I like mowing my lawn. The older kids have jobs. Sarah has a full time job as a hair stylists and Nick is a bike mechanic.

      timber it’s Polaris’ Glacier plow with the Polaris mounting system. It’s very good. It held up for a decade with no problems. My new 1000 has a Kimpex mounting system and it’s junk. It’s already bent. I also had to bolt it on permanently because their hardware kit was junk. I’ll post a video comparing the two shortly.

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It's a 1968 Flying Dutchman. Much smaller. My boat is only 20' long and weighs a fraction of what an Etchells weighs. Mine can be sailed with just a 2-man crew. Very fast boat.

    First problem I see is you did not check the oil.
    Second, always put the red (positive) cable on first... then the ground.
    Me thinks you need a more tactical method of attack on that snow.
    More efficient approach.
    Thanks for the video though.
    I'm planning on making a PLOW for my quad. Mine is a 250 cc Suzuki two wheel drive.
    Do you think your machine could handle a wider blade ?
    If its got enough power, I think it be a great help.

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Penny. I have now have a 1,000 cc quad with a 66" blade. It can push a ton of snow. I know I can be more efficient plowing my driveway, but I'm not too concerned by that. Cheers.

    • @pennykrueger5644
      @pennykrueger5644 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pddpup7767 as I am the one and only person that services and repairs all of MY equipment, checking the oil is high on my priority list. I've heard people say "well, I never had a problem before so what's the point".
      You'll never know if you have a problem . . . if you DON'T check the oil... until it's too late and your engine is shot to crap in seconds.
      It's always a good habit to connect the positive cable first. If it is not grounded there won't be a discharge or spark. This can fry certain electrical components.
      I am my own mechanic and I have to pay for everything out of pocket, so these things are important... IMHO
      Definitely not an expert.
      Just try hard to do things right.

    • @davalleyguy5020
      @davalleyguy5020 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 things...in alberta some do heat their garages since natural gas is so cheap. 2nd, cold does not affect batteries. It does however make cold engine parts harder to move. My 350 fourtrax has never had a battery charger on it and starts quickly at 0 Fahrenheit. If a battery is failing only then will it let you down like this video
