  • In this video, I demonstrate the process of hanging the Farrow and Ball Peony Wallpaper while also providing guidance on how to paste wallpaper and cut lengths to size as necessary. It's crucial to watch the preceding video where I discuss how to ensure the pattern is matched correctly, emphasizing the importance of not solely relying on the provided instructions, as I have doubts about their suitability for this particular wallpaper.

That was a great watch Phil...the point about the pattern is vital, this would cost a paper hanger a fortune if they cut it like any other half drop paper, I bet some have been caught out, (I'll hold me hands up and say I probably would have been) why do wallpaper designers make life so difficult for us by overcomplicating designs and how they sit on each sheet.👍
I use a cheap wind up kitchen timer for my soaking times...it keeps me alert, more so when it comes to under soaking.

Well done Phil, lovely job well explained. You’re so right about the boards with a metal trim which can snag and even rip your paper.. I picked some up at brewers and wasn’t happy with them brewers contacted the rep to put forward my complaint but said we’ve not had any complaints mmmmh so I’ll line the top with nice bit of 6mm ply. See how that works out.
I was taught same way to paste. Makes sense keeping boards clean plus paper free of paste.

Excellent video, I use an egg timer for soaking time helpful when you have a chatty customer ! I wonder is the half drop scenario that way because the wallpaper is more of a mural than a traditionally matched paper, the fact that each roll had 3 strips and you were instructed to hang in correspondence is 18, 19 then 20 and the half drop refers to the drops in each roll as opposed to the traditional uneven numbers and even numbers matching ?

Great video Phil as always. I do love all your old kit like the ladders and paste table. Love tools with a bit of history to them. Where did you get the paste table from or have you built it yourself? Does it fold away as I noticed the top comes off, not seen that before?

Also mate, I use the Wickes tub paste too but with you mentioned you put it on undiluted it looked like it went on very easily. I normally find it’s extremely thick and difficult to apply with a brush straight from the tub. Was that definitely not diluted and you’d forgot? Cheers mate

It weird. As I think it's altered these last 12months. It doesn't seem as thick as it was.
For lining and WallRock it seems fine. Sometimes I think it needs to be thicker.
I use Brewers Yellow top sometimes and that seems to be how Wickes used to be .. thick.
And needs thinning to get it on.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator aah right! I’ve not used Wickes on past few jobs simply because Wickes wasn’t convenient at the time so I’ll go back and see what it’s like again when I’m next that way 👍🏼

Do you use a starch based paste? I am hanging one of their dark papers this week and was recommended by F&B to use a “decorators wax crayon” to color the edges prior to cutting and hanging but I am in the US and I’m not finding that here. Any ideas?

Hi Phil, Which professional pasting table would you recommend?

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

something thats not got rounded corners or metal strips around the edges.
Check out the paste tables at Brewers.. about £80. I think toolstation do a similar too

How do you go about charging for a feature wall phil? I find a day rate plus materials works for me but i know guys who have started to charge by the square metre with paste included in that.

I'll work out how long I'll be on it, work from our base hourly rate and adjust accordingly depending what's involved.
A basic feature wall is nothing less than £150 +vat
Then there's the time for prep and lining to go on.

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yep same here mate. I tried to work out a sq metre price a couple of years ago after reading a really good little book by Pete Wilkinson, but I just found there were too many nuances in the work. As you say, lining, filling, caulking, different types of paper, number of sockets to go around etc so I went back to day rate , the same way I price every other job. Plus another thing I found was that I work on alot of Victorian and Edwardian properties and seldom new builds so the walls usually need alot more prep before lining. Cheers for the response Phil.
