    The worst is when your failing to meet certain expectations at work, and the boss decides to let it slide (neglect to inform you). You may think everything is going great, when your actually on the fast track to unemployment. These days employers would much rather fire and re-hire, then spend weeks, or even months correcting your performance and giving you the tools you need to grow.

      @@Will-ws6gb good point. In our experience, when managers don't have the skills to speak up openly and respectfully, they lean on 'performance systems' which can be often intimidating and achieve very little. Or just say nothing at all which can be far worse.
