Turbowarp is a great alternative! I really hope vanilla Scratch will add some of those innovations someday, so we don't end up with an audience that's split between platforms.
You can, but if the image is on the same layer as your drawing you risk accidentally moving your image around and messing up your trace. This method locks your reference image down so it can't be moved.
