its just the artist mindset ive been an artist my whole life and every time i make a piece im happy whith it i like it but only notice the imperfections this promotes improvement therefore is good for the artist as every time they try they will improve from the last and even if an artist is the greatest artist in the world they will see their art unfit.

I’ve been doing pixel art for 3 years now (not meaning to promote myself too much, but some of it is posted!), and I’m completely self taught. The biggest tip I can give anyone is to be patient. Art takes time, to make, and to learn. Don’t expect it to be perfect on the first, second, third, or even twenty fifth time. But don’t be discouraged, either.

Really nice video. It is true that an hour a day of practice can make you better at not just pixelart, but everything in general. If you want to make pixel art animation you should also check a bit of the animation theory. Alan becker had some really fancy way of explaining it on his channel.

I learned Pixel art relatively same as learning Digital Art. I've been a digital artist for over a decade as well as a pixel art and let me tell you - No one is suck at art. They only lack practice.
I started to learn digital/pixel art with no ideas so my art look so ugly compared to now thatI learned shading, color scheme, as well as lighting, proportions and color grading, etc.
You just had to practice, practice, practice! Practice makes perfect! And to find your own artstyle

i still believe pixel art drawing is a talent as either you're born to do it or NOT.
Well you immensly reduced my pessimistic look at it since hands down bro i'm impressed, before showing the whole process i didn't believe the thumbnail evolution you pictured. HOWEVERRRRRRRR!!! i highly doubt a person like me with no bone of talent in his hands can produce 'commercial quality' sprites for serious games since they play a huge part in attracting the eyes on it (and not give the noob-indie-game vibe right away).

When talking infront of a camera, I would suggest you to move your upper body as well. Your shoulders and upper arms seem very tense in this video since they aren't moving, although you are using your hands to talk. This makes you seem a little closed off, so I would suggest trying to move your upper body a bit more when talking. Practice makes perfect, you're doing great!

You can use paint. No need for specific paid softwares. A good thing you did tho, which is a great exercise for beginners is to start with small sprites. Making something look as good as possible in a 16x16 or 32x32 square is a great way to learn because you can modify it so easily if you don't like something and it teaches you to use the limited space as best as you can.

    • @WillHessGameDev

Very true! I have gimp which I use to make thumbnails for my vids and I believe it's like an open source photoshop which you can again do the exact same thing with Microsoft paint. However, asperite does let you rotate groups of pixels and their algorithm that the rotations use is pretty good. Paint and gimp aren't made for pixel art but you can do it in them, but asperite is exclusively pixel art giving it some pretty cool tools. There is also a way of getting asperite for free too!

I have some background as a visual artist (paid for art school), and it took me an embarrasingly long time to notice that pixel art is way, _way_ closer to painting than it is to line drawing.
So, it doesn't hurt to read some books on digital and traditional painting to get your pixel art to the next level.

@@WillHessGameDevI have a question. How much did the courses cost?

@@GodotDev1 I know they are usually pretty expensive/ overpriced, but I got them when they were on sale because game dev tv likes to do sales pretty often. I forget exactly but I doubt I paid more than $10 for each
