Unboxing Illumicrate Crescent City Special Editions - HOEAB & HOSAB

- After many months of waiting, Crescent City special editions are finally here, and the first to turn up is the Illumicrate Editions of House of Earth and Blood & House of Sky and Breath. I didn't think we would see any Sarah J Maas editions from Illumicrate and Fairyloot, and they both came out with these at the same time!
The main draw of these editions over the Fairyloot ones are the page overlays, which they have absolutely nailed for House of Earth and Blood, but like the actual book, House of Sky and Breath just pales compared to book 1.
These are my first Illumicrate editions, and it's a shame that they have errors (especially for the price of EIGHTY FOUR POUNDS) but that's on the publisher!

I think this is ICs strongest special edition - biased cuz HOEAB is my fav book ever 🙈 but I ADORED the edges, endpapers, foiling and the OVERLAYS WERE SPOT ON. Loved the art and the scenes they picked. I felt that spoiler warning with my whole chest 😂
I've never followed their non book box editions so I didn't know what to expect! The overlays for book 1 are everything, I need them on a poster!
I felt meh about these editions too, so I got the Fairyloot ones. No real regret. But I wish I could get the page overlays for HOEAB separately, those are amazing!
I think the overlays for HOEAB are the only things I would regret not getting for these! Looking forward to getting the Fairyloot ones now
I ordered the Fairyloot set, which I don't regret. It's probably the last special edition books I'll be getting, for a long time. Shipping cost is insane. I wanted the IC Winternight box but it would have been 80 USD, for only one book.
Yeah I can't see them doing any more books I would get, unless they did PJO. That's so expensive for 1 book, ridiculous!

I talked myself out of buying Fairyloot's editions due to price but regretted it so I ordered Illumicrate's. Seeing Fairyloot's sneak peek of their editions, I was so disappointed I didn't get those instead, but I forgot about the overlays! Agree the naked hardbacks are really nice. Your video made me a lot more excited to receive mine.
They are so much nicer in person so I hope that you feel like you've made a good choice when you get them! If Fairyloot use cheap quality books they have the potential to look tacky, in which case these would be the nicer editions because they just seem expensive
I got the FL ones can’t wait for them to come after seeing everyone getting these ones just makes me want them more !
I think the only thing I like more on these is the sprayed edges but other than that I still think the FL ones looked better 🤞🏻 they live up to the pictures !

OMG, the Fairyloot edition cost me AU$255!! The shipping cost almost the same as the books, so it better be with it.
I don’t know how the price of shipping between the two companies differ so much in price. Illumicrate charged £29 and Fairyloot charged £66 with DHL. I know they have a cheaper shipping option with Hermes at £33, but I don’t know that company. Maybe I’ll use them from now on. I don’t know.

Omg that's so bad that they have such different shipping options! You would think for international shipping they would allow you to use a range of shipping companies so you could chose the cheapest ones. I wish they would open an Australian distribution centre, it's just so much money!

It's the first thing that caught my eye actually, it makes it look so well done! I love when you see things in a different way on screen to when you look at it in person!
I like these because I think the original covers are amazing and I wouldn't change anything about them

i ended up getting the fairyloot edition because, though i love the original cover art, i already own the original covers and decided to switch it up and get something totally different. these look stunning though!!

I didn't buy the Illumicrate editions as I couldn't justify having 2 special edition sets :(
I still prefer the Fairyloot editions but these are nice too! So jealous about the page overlays though.

I got fairyloot but soo regret not getting these!! Especially with the cover change announcement 😭 I opted for fairyloot cause I do LOVE their design and I have paperbacks in the og covers.... im so hoping cc3 paperback matches the existing set 😬😬

Also omg yes I LOVED book 1!! And book 2 is 3 stars AT BEST. I honestly hated that Danika drove the story AGAIN after bryce let go in book 1.... felt like her character back slid. So right now I consider cc1 a standalone 🤣
I do think Fairyloot is looking the best right now but their edges better not be as rough as they look in the teaser!

My editions just came today and I was so excited until I saw that one was missing the yellow ribbon bookmark!! It also had one of the edges of the dust jacket ripped and bent, the sprayed edges damaged… i’ve asked for a replacement, fingers crossed 🙏
Personally for me I got this set and I'm so happy with it, it was an easy choice for me as I've always wanted special editions of CC and page overlays and I loved the digital edges plus it was alot cheaper in terms of shipping to me than fairyloot. In the end it was choosing between a slipcase from FL or page overlays from IC and I preferred the page overlays.🥰
Also PS. I think the endpapers scene on book two might be the one on the ship with Bryce and Hunt in the forest, but it's a guess as I also have no idea where else it could be in the book. 🙈

Hi Ness! The first HOSAB overlay is Tharion & Ithan with Aidas (Prince of the Chasm) on Ithan’s lap. Bryce walks in at that point and tells Ithan “that isn’t a cat!”
You're right! I really don't see Tharion or Ithan like this though!
I didn't get the CC set but I did get Roots of Chaos set which were the same price but don't have the overlays but we're hand signed so I'll be interested to see how they compare for value for money
Overlays can be quite expensive when you look at them online. I wanted the Broken Binding set, gutted I missed out on them!

I think it's justified to be a bit disappointed when books are in perfect condition. It may be the publisher's fault, but when you're paying as much as you are for those SE, you deserve to get perfect books. Prices have gone up, but that should mean quality should too.
It's such a cheap error too!! Defo not Illumicrates fault but for the price you would think people would be quickly checking as they were being packaged up

You mean on the dust jacket? I'm not sure if it has a specific reference to a scene, but I would say if it was them likely. The bookplate, no it's a different scene
I am on the verse because I actually did not like the IC or the FL ones. The overlays look very pretty but I sort of feel that both boxes were trying to be very out there about these but for me they are just too much and not cohesive enough. I have the UK tour, US and waterstones hardbacks, and I still think that apart from sprayed edges they are pretty as is.
I agree, the book is nice enough as it is. So jealous you have the tour editions!

I got this edition for the set and now I am kind of regretting. It was really difficult to choose between IC and Fairyloot Edition. I hope I don’t like the Fairyloot Edition too much when I watch the unboxing
The edges of the fairyloot edition looked rough in their teaser though! For me it will depend on how good the quality is
However the hardcovers are v nice, giving me gatsby vibes from the naked cover
I don't know where they got the art deco vibe from to be honest! Fairyloot have done the same I'm just like who told you to do this????
Keep in mind the price of everything has skyrocketed the last 2 years, at least in the US. A price of a normal book is $30 or £25 and shipping prices are ridiculous. A few years ago these books may not have cost near that much
They've not actually gone up that much in the UK, which has been very lucky! Paperbacks are still £9, and their February book is £15 on waterstones at full price and pen signed by the author. UK shipping has only gone up once since I subscribed in January 2021 so I would expect that will go up in April if Royal Mail increase their prices
I bought only the FL cause I didn’t like the Illumicrate modifications on these 😕

This set is stunning but like you I’m not wowed by it. The reverse dust jackets are ok but not wow. The HoSaB is a bit 🤨 The HoEaB overlays look amazing but HoSaB is a bit lacklustre.
I’m glad I didn’t get these as well. I couldn’t justify two sets plus the original publications as it’s just too much for me.
I’m hoping FL’s blow this set out of the water as they are much better at end papers and choosing the right art/artist. Hopefully the spredges are good too.
Yes fairyloot absolutely kill it on end papers so I'm putting all my faith in them right now! If they are good the overlays will be going in them. For the size of the books I really think we needed more too!
