i keep a wishlist in notion with images in a gallery, and i think it really does help me decide what is worth getting. sometimes i add a pen to that wishlist, but when i see it right next to the ones i'm super interested in, that shows me i'm not all that interested in the one i added. helps keep things in perspective.
I’ll say this, I’m trying to be more mindful about pen purchases this year but so far I’ve not done well. Some heavy hitters came up that I really wanted (Pelikan Ocean Swirl as an example) so your video is a good reminder to help me regroup! I too sort of rebel when I try to set rules for myself so instead I’m telling myself it’s so I can have the cash to spend at the SF Pen Show 😂 on a more serious note I’ve also written down a list of things I don’t love about pens that I’ve sold and that has really helped me weed out some impulse purchases.
I haven't been perfect about my "low-buy," either, but I do feel like I've been more mindful than I was last year. I am a rebel against my own rules, too. Haha! A list of why you sold your pens is a great idea. I should go back through my sold pens and do the same! Good luck saving for the SF Pen Show! You can do it!
I highly-HIGHLY recommend using (at home) Dawn Power Wash followed by Lava brand soap. That combo works to get ink off of my hands every. single. time - even works really well to erase Baystate Blue off my hands.
My hands came out clean - I bought some Amodex for my shirt, but I may have waited too long. I'll be trying it this weekend! Thanks for the recommendation!
As both my husband and I have retired and with costs having increased so on everything, I had to take a step back from purchasing additional fountain pens although I hope to get the new Kaweco Sport when it comes out. My wants for this year will include mostly stationery.

The white Estie is dreamy! I have just bought a Pilot VP and I am wanting to dive into Sailor…… can’t quite decide which one …other than Manyo Nuts which seems difficult to find over here, I an debating between the Dragon Palace or Solar Term Hagi….or any pink one ….. February is a no pen buy month so I will wait until March 🤣🥹
I’m loving the VP WITH Deep Magenta ink in it. You won’t believe this but ‘ no pen buy February ‘ didn’t work.🤪🤪 I found a Dragon’s Palace for a good price from Japan…..and then a Hagi at an even better price locally! Just to say I love them both, especially I think the green one. And yes we are soon approaching NO PEN BUY MARCH ! 🤣🤪🤣
I've had two ink accidents that I remember. One was dropping a near full Noodler's Black on the floor, which then proceeded to shatter. Another is a full (old big size jar) bottle of one of the Private Reserve Blue inks (DC Super Show, I believe) that dropped down the stairs, and at the bottom floor somehow the cap came off the the ink spilled everywhere.
OH MY STARS I can't imagine cleaning up a whole bottle of black or blue ink! I spilled about half a bottle of Noodler's Dragon's Napalm ink on the carpet in my last apartment. I wrote in to the Pen Addict podcast to ask for cleaning tips, and they titled the episode after Brad's response: "You Replace Your Carpet." 😂 I've had other spills, but usually on the desk or in the sink - in the car was tough!
I have two Scribo Feels and love them! I might sell my Spiaggia Rosa, because I'm not sure I need two, but I do find them comfortable and the fine nib is super smooth.
That makes sense that your Pelikan M400 medium writes like a broad, my fine nib writes like a medium 😂 I am trying to do a low but year too but if you took a look at my wishlist you may not think so 😂I have a preorder in for my very first Leonardo, I’m so excited! Oh my gosh!!! The white Estie...YES!!! I saw that too and it was gone with the quickness. That is definitely one I would break my no spend for. I even was thinking about the white Leonardo Furore pen because of how close it looked to the Estie. I believe it was called white salt. Thanks for sharing the wish list. Yes, I think the white Furore is super pretty! I don't get along well with Leonardo grip sections, but otherwise it would be a good substitute! I wish you well with your mindful spending!
Most people get along with them fine, but the grips are straight, and my fingers can tend to slide off towards the nib! However, I’m giving them another chance soon!
@@gingerpeachy oh yeah... I tend to hold my pens real close to the edge and sometimes end up with inky fingers. I've been trying to be more aware of my placements. Hopefully you will enjoy them this time around. They are beautiful pens.
Yes to the Estie, I‘ll keep a look out for that one as well. ;) The EF nib on my Pelikan M800 writes very fine… too fine for my taste actually, but with the right ink it‘s ok. Regarding Scribo… I have the Feel Verde Antico and the La Dotta Campanula. Got the latter one first and just HAD to get the Feel because of the color. But now I like the Campanula more. I got 20% off on both at Appelboom, so it‘s fine. ;) They are getting more and more popular, so they are sure to release more colors. I am trying to be more mindful when it comes to pen purchases this year. I will grant myself 1 pen per month. But since I already bought the February and March pens, I have to wait until April now… ;))))
Thank you for all of that information! I've decided I want to find a way to try out a gold EF nib for the M400 before I buy one. I don't want to buy it and then regret it! As for Scribo, I almost bought the Verde Antico - it's really lovely - but I decided to wait for something that I LOVE. I can relate to the ink accident…I was swatching the ink vent and spilled most of a bottle …thankfully it was the fortunes gold so it came out of the carpet and my clothes 🤦🏻♀️ my current wishlist so far for ‘24 is the Kaweco Sport art in the terrazzo; and I really want to try the Bonecrusher Velma and an Esterbrook Estie…the white is gorgeous but I also really like the honeycomb one also!
The honeycomb Estie is so pretty! It was my very first Estie, and still one of my favorites. I need a finer nib for it - it's a B nib, and I haven't been using B nibs at all lately. I'm glad your ink-cident cleaned up well! It's a double whammy spilling ink, because you both have a mess to clean up AND you lose your ink! Let me know if you try a Bonecrusher Velma! He has some really pretty ones on his website currently!

I don't have a wish list per-se. Outside of that white Esterbrook Estie and the Lilac (I snagged one of those) I'm not really in the market for a particular pen. I DID just pre-order the Leonardo Momento zero Grande in Nana Rosa. I'm hoping it'll match the Rosewood Gillio I have coming in. Otherwise I'll probably end up selling it. I'm honestly, just listing the pens I have whose nibs I'd like to grind down since I'm planning to go to the DC Pen show this year.

It /roader then the fine from Twisbi or Kaweco or whatever… don’t let me begin with sailor or pilot of course. Even broader then f from ferries wheel press….. I couldn’t believe it and sent it to Pelikan to test the nib! And they said that is a regular ef nib. Means, try out before you buy the next one…
You're right - I'd like to try before I buy! But I don't want a super fine EF, like a Japanese - I'd be happy with one that writes like a Japanese M/western F! Someone suggested I have my M nib ground by a nib meister, and that might just be what I end up doing. It's cheaper than buying a new nib! Thanks for your recommendation!
My wishlist also includes the Esterbrook Estie in white, but only if they offer it with chrome trim. I'll probably do some nib swapping and sell my Estie Botanical Garden. My intention this year is to stop buying less expensive pens and save for one or two pricier ones. Top on my list are another Schon Dsgn fountain pen (I already have five), this time with a Monoc nib, and a Santini Italiana of some sort. I will be selling a handful of less used pens as well.
I think I'm kind of with you on buying fewer inexpensive pens and saving for one or two pricier ones! Santini Italiana is a brand I haven't looked at much... I might have to go take a look. I wish you well with your wish list!

The Pelikan pens are all wet writers and broader tips than other pens.
Yes, that's what I've noticed - my M200/205s are pretty true-to-size, but this medium gold nib is equivalent to a broad for sure!
