Thank you for at least preserving the music from a uniquely beautiful time. There are a lot of childhood memories hidden in there. Danke dafür, dass wenigstens die Musik aus einer einmalig schönen Zeit erhalten bleibt. Darin sind jede Menge Jugenderinnerungen verborgen.
Saw them opening for Rush in 1983 or so. Had no expectations but was blown away. They were fantastic and the crowd responded with the enthusiasm they'd reserved for the headliners.
I attended the same tour. I was aware of them but didn't pay much attention. As you mentioned though, when they ended their set with an absolute blistering version of Radar Love, every seat was filled and everyone was on their feet. Of course 30 minutes later Rush came on and blew the roof off the Long beach Arena.
I remember seeing Goldon Earring open for Rush in 1983. I only knew 2 songs from Goldon Earring at the time. This band absolutely blew me away! I'm a drummer and I was 15 at the time thinking that Neil Peart was the greatest! Don't get me wrong, Neil is one of my favs ! And he was outrageous at the show. When I saw Caesar do his solo... man... I was greatly impressed! I was treated to an evening of fantastic drumming that night!!! I'll never forget that show!!
This song has caused so many young guys to end up with speeding tickets! Should be outlawed!!!!!! How can you not go fast when this song cranks up on the radio?
I saw Golden Earring back in 1973-74 on tour with Rush & KISS. The drummer had every imaginable drum and percussion on stage, including timpani or kettle drums. Did a solo for 15 minutes going from one drum to the next with all of the percussions and cymbals et al. I was just floored. Besides Golden earring and Rush doing a better concert than KISS, both bands performed as musicians better than KISS could dream of. Good to see Golden Earring still going today.
Outstanding! I remember seeing them open for Rush in 1983. They were phenominal. Cesars solo was awesome but not as elaborate as this! Very underrated drummer and band!!!!!😎🎶📻🔊🔊🔊
If this song doesn't get you going down the road then I don't know what will. I never heard it live. Only from the album. I sure have been missing something. DAMM!
Great song, EXCELLENT version! That was one of the most unorthodox drum solos I have ever seen, but in a good way! I had never seen anybody execute electronic sounds just hitting on themselves with their hands!!! You've done yourself proud.
i have a very rare live cd of golden earring that i came across about 10 yrs. ago it has all the hits on it - it originally came out in the mid or late 70's i was very lucky to come across it, it is a gem & one i will never ever get rid of or sell... (polydor german import)... it was never released as a cd in the U.S. for those of you who are fans you could probably find it on ebay - maybe..
What Kohn said--I remember seeing this on (I guess) MTV, once. Just once. And it's stuck in my head all these years. That drumkit more than anything else--the orange blocks and the jacket with the cables running out of it.
That was great!! Those are microphone cables attached to his body for those who may not know. I thought it was a bungee cord until I watched it twice and clued in. lol
Nag, nag, nag........who cares who's the best?? You like it or not! Am not a fanatic Golden Earring fan, but this performance is fantastic, let's leave it to that!!
@Szixxx Thank you so much, you really made my day!!!! Also, you are so very right about the school thing-I wanted to mention that but just didn't want to be ugly about the situation. Again, thanks so much for your reply. You have no idea how you made my day!!!!!!!!
Hey, I remember seeing this on MTV back in 84 or 85. I remember the drum solo with the jacket. Sounds like he's got wired up to a Simmons electronic drumkit (probably an SDS-7). NEAT!
Do you have the beginning of this laserdisc with the film clip that expands a bit on the "Twilight Zone" video? I'd love to see that as I haven't seen it in ages.
If you think so, you should look up some clips of Cesar Zuiderwijk (that's the drummer his name) on youtube and rethink this comment. The guy is a god with anything that makes a sound, drums/kitchen materials/boxes, you name it. He'll play it. Very nice video.
this is gonna sound so weird, but my big brother and i used to watch this like once a day when we were little kids it was my dad's tape and we loved it XD this is AMAZING
Ok kids, today we’re going to learn a new word. It’s called SHOWMANSHIP. Say it with me now… SHOW - MAN - SHIP. That’s it!! I knew you could do it! See - and all this time you thought that what you were seeing was called self indulgence.
Damn, I'm looking for the Radar Love video where the drummer was ejected from his stool over the drum set onto the stage at the end of the song. Remember seeing it done on ABC's In Concert in 1973 and saw it performed at a concert I attended in 1974. Let me know if you know where I can watch video. Thanks
What are you talking about the original song? This is the original sheesh. Written by golden earring, performed by golden earring. How much more original do you want to get?
Saw these guys few times back in the day! Always a great live show!
Gezien op de Vierdaagse feesten in 1984 op de Waalkade ,wat een klasseband

Thank you for at least preserving the music from a uniquely beautiful time. There are a lot of childhood memories hidden in there.
Danke dafür, dass wenigstens die Musik aus einer einmalig schönen Zeit erhalten bleibt. Darin sind jede Menge Jugenderinnerungen verborgen.
Imagine being stoned at the show and seeing this!
One of the best drum solos! And certainly the most innovative drum solo!!!
Wow!! I went to this concert in 84 Tingley Coliseum Albuquerque. Best drum solo ever. He did a solo with glowing drum sticks. What a great time!!
Saw them opening for Rush in 1983 or so. Had no expectations but was blown away. They were fantastic and the crowd responded with the enthusiasm they'd reserved for the headliners.
When the Golden Earring toured with the Who in the early seventies, Roger Dalterey once said "You guys are too good to be the opening act."
Oldies and they are still rocking there Butts off on stage.
Bass line in this tune is redaculous! I love it! More bass!!!
I remember seeing Goldon Earring open for Rush in 1983. I only knew 2 songs from Goldon Earring at the time. This band absolutely blew me away! ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SONG FOR A LONG DARK HIGHWAY LATE AT NIGHT DRIVING FLAT OUT BALLS TO THE WALL!!!!
Outstanding! I remember seeing them open for Rush in 1983. They were phenominal. Cesars solo was awesome but not as elaborate as this! Very underrated drummer and band!!!!!😎🎶📻🔊🔊🔊

This is a song that really deserves the titel "good music".
It´s not that kind of bad music so much people listen to today!
11 years late to replying.
Trust me dude, since you commented, music has gotten far worse.
If this song doesn't get you going down the road then I don't know what will.
I never heard it live. Only from the album. I sure have been missing something.

That was pretty amazing, but man, I would love to see the complete song!
Carmine Appice is one of the great drummers also....Amazing GE still puts out this energy in a song. True rockers.
Damn, I'm looking for the Radar Love video where the drummer was ejected from his stool over the drum set onto the stage at the end of the song. I saw this on TV in late 84. What concert is this from? I remember Twilight Zone also was played.
this was finishing playing on the car radio while a cop was writing me my first of many speeding tickets :(
the cop torned my ticket in pieces, once he knew why i drove to fast, hearing this song, i came off with a warning :)
WOW!
This happens to be a LIVE performance at a concert. They ALWAYS do this, my dad told me that.
Back when these guys were selling vinyl all the bands would do this sort of drum solo extravaganza at their concerts, that's why you went.
@derschatten82 LOL. i-75 near Atlanta in the USA in a 70' Plymouth 'cuda for me.
