    Fantastic. Harvey looks so willing and happy doing this because he is getting clear instructions from his pilot.

    I can't go to the two-week riding course right now.
    Korea is telling me not to go out because of the virus.
    Now that I'm watching your video, I can't wait to ride a horse.
    This time, your video has become a lot of help.
    Thank you all the time

    Great tip on schooling the half pass from center line. The turn onto the center line should help establish the bend. I was taught for the half pass to align thumbs - ears - letter (destination) which is pretty much what you're saying here.
    Oh, and the thumbs, BTW, are mine, not the horse's. :)

    Beautiful vid. I think I need a slo mo, slow explanation for me to capture! You are such a beautiful rider!

    This was very helpful! Thanks Amelia! My struggle has been the proper "feel" of half pass. When it feels right to me, it's when haunches are leading. Or then it fades into leg yield..... I have lots of work to do! Lol. Also what helps is adding in the outside seat bone.

    Are you allowed to have the letters on the rail when you do tests?

    What seat bone do u tell students to sit on in the half pass?

  • @JavierBonillaC
    @JavierBonillaC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve often explained to people trying to do the half-pass that if they were doing a haunches in and God came from up Heaven and twisted the arena 45 degrees. You’d find yourself doing a half pass. Very good video Amelia. Greetings.

    I would love to hear the distribution of weight/seat aids to aid horse. I’m a tad crooked and it’s hard to get a half pass left by seat doesn’t know what to do🙃

    My trainer has started to work with on half pass, it's difficult as there are so many parts. I have seen it taught your way out of traver but my trainer puts me in shoulder in first and then asks me to go sideways. Any tips on this approach?

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shoulder-in is a correct preparation for the half pass because it gets the shoulder off of the rail and the bend in the horses' body. Once you have shoulder-in, then think of starting on a diagonal line and riding travers 👍👍🐎

    • @shirleybroady
      @shirleybroady 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need both...... haunches in and shoulder in. My tip from experience: if you have a good trainer, do what she says even if it contradicts what she said before. LOL. I don’t mean to imply that you’re not doing that, but embrace confusion and it will get sorted out. Not easy, I know. Some parts you have to work out for yourself. Thats hard because often our minds makes promises our body can’t keep. 😊

    Just a question (I am only starting canter half pass so may be wrong here) wouldn't starting your half pass from travers/haunches in result in the quarters leading across? I was under the impression that the shoulders are supposed to lead (just by a tiny bit). Thanks for your videos. I found them last night and have watched a few now.

    Hey Amelia, can you do a video on everything about transitions? I find them so hard to do and struggle with timing them well, especially downwards transitions. Upwards transitions are much easier. Walk-halt and trot-walk I can do ok, but I struggle to keep my horse in balance from canter to trot or walk. Please help 🤯 love your videos, they inspire me ❤️

    Is there any real difference between the half pass and a leg yield or is it just terminology?

    • @magdadaek1826
      @magdadaek1826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a real difference

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Huge difference. In half-pass the horse is bending in the body in the direction of travel. Leg-Yield has flexion away from the direction of travel but no bend.

    My students get so confused when I tell them to sit on the seat bone to the inside in half pass because they say that’s what we learned when asking the horse to move away from the inside leg

    But my horse seems to lose the forward!!

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage
      @AmeliaNewcombDressage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We always need a steady rhythm, if you're loosing that through the movement, try incorporating forward and back (longitudial suppleness) within the gaits in your warmups before your lateral work :) Hope that helps!
