    Dude finally. That's the first car I ever drove. It was a 400 Pontiac engine in the one I drove and it was dark green and it was built really good blueprinted and balanced it was bored out and everything I was only like 13 years old, but before I took the wheel he had done 145 miles an hour with the car so it was fast real fast oh, so this was great I'm happy to see this up their nice car I really like it

    I agree Pontiac’s with headers suck to work on. We had a 455 1970 Trans Am with headers and we hated doing starters,plugs and oil filters😂 I usually run Shell Rotella with a bottle of Comp Cams break in lube on flat tappet cams. I also use VP Hot Rod oil with zinc when it is readily available.

      Oddly we actually have an Olds Cutlass in the shop right now that may be suffering from an... incorrect oil issue. Unfortunately a LOT of folks these days don't count on needing to use an old school oil with their old school motor
      LOVE Long tubes on a Pontiac but... man it's a PITA

      I had a 73 Ventura with a 400 punched to 406 with hookers on mine and a Engle solid cam and the headers weren’t a big deal at all ran 12’s with a 4.88 cranking 7k on the top end …loved that engine was on 21 then and realized through shift points gear was too tall and need a trans brake on my th400 but when your funding it on minimum salary you make due with what you have…..also was running 14:1 compression balanced assy revved so smooth fuel of course was an issue as was keeping it cool….

    I would keep the 2500 to 2700 stall. If it's tight, you won't really notice it unless you stab the gas and spike the converter. I ran a 3000 on the street that was hand built. My father borrowed the car and never noticed it.

    • @LucoreAuto
      @LucoreAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same for us! The number really isn't THAT important on this car given it's more of a cruiser and fun car not a race car, but we are certainly curious.
      ANYTHING with a flat tappet camshaft should be using high zinc oils like this, or at MINIMUM a zinc additive when an oil change is done. I believe, and don't hold me to this, your '89 351w is probably a roller camshaft? In that case it's not necessary but wouldn't hurt anything.
