    It's a swamp cooler....those work best in low humidity locations like a desert.
    I saw a house unit at a flea market here in Kentucky years ago, and the guy said it was an " air conditioner"... it's not. Swamp coolers are fairly common out West, but they don't work well here...they add humidity.
    In the '70s as a teenager, I bought a battery powered " desktop air conditioner" still in the box for fifty cents at a yard sale. Older version if what you have. It kinda sorta worked, but it seemed to do better on hot dry days. It would run about three hours on fully charged NiCads...you had to be right in front of it to really notice anything. A regular fan worked better..

    In desert areas when the temperature goes up, the humidity goes down. Conversely, if the humidity goes up the temperature goes down, it's called evaporative cooling.
    The water absorbs the heat from the air coming in and cool air comes out with more humidity making it comfortable. Very common the Southwest desert States like Texas.

    I have thought about them but just think of the moisture it will put in blowing in your shop or house???
