    Heat index is 109 degrees out right now. Just got back home from a work trip and asked the wife if the AC feels like it’s not cooling. She said it felt fine this morning, but I knew something was off. Thermostat was set to 75 but inside temp was 80. This was the first video I came across. I did it exactly as you instructed. Kicked the breakers back on and BAM! Instant cold air coming into the house. Oh what a relief. Great video!

    I can not thank you enough for this video. Today is 109 and yesterday I noticed the ac not blowing cool air and it was squeeling. We tuned it off and hosed down the outside (that was definitely clogged) It got down to 67 this AM and we bumped the thermostat up to 69 as it was a little too cool. It took a good 12 hours for it to cool the house from 79 to 67. You saved me!

      A lot of HVAC maintenance is just keeping everything clean. And if you don't keep everything clean, the system may stop working or will have to work harder so the components will fail. Keep it clean including the blower fans inside the furnaces, the condensation PVC pipes and the flame sensor and just everything.

    Thank you! There are a lot of HVAC companies that do not have the competency to share what you have in your videos. So glad I found your channel! It would do a lot for the HVAC industry if they required their contractors to watch your videos. I had a contractor make a repair and burn my outside unit up. I have a 5 yr old system now and just had a tune-up, now it is running poorly. He probably messed something up. I am afraid to call an HVAC company to look at it. I will trouble shoot following your tips. Thanks!

    often after he watched videos, he tries to tell or ask me or his dad tons stuff. A lot is really beyond me or his dad‘s knowledges. Maybe this boy has some kind of talent . I’m not sure.
    We live in Eustis fl. I was looking maybe engineering class for him. Unfortunately so far I didn’t find any yet. He’s too little for all kinds engineering class I have found on line. I post this hope there’s similar kids and maybe I can get more information from their parents.

    I cleaned my unit, replaced new filters and even replaced the capacitor because the fan wasn't spinning. It worked great for a whole season. Now it doesn't blow cold air. Cleaned again. these seem like good points but definitely turn the power off before removing the fasteners that attach the fan motor and cage to the unit! if it would have kicked on and started spinning before you turned the disconnect switch off it could have done some damage to the unit or someone near it.

    Excellent video as always.
    I have a Rheem unit in an apartment. I changed the 40mfd capacitor today, the compressor seems to be running fine. however couple of strange things I noticed: compressor is blowing cold air out instead of hot air and the the temprature on thermostat is not coming down. Local guy tech guy told us to use to do a hard start using 500% Suppco SPP6. I still have tried that option.
    I changed the filter too.
    Can you please let me know what could I check and why the compressor is blowing cold air out?

  • @ohiopat
    @ohiopat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    I always tell people it saves money on the electric bill (which it does) to try to motivate them to keep it clean. It also makes the compressor last longer since it doesn't run as hot. I hose mine off probably 3 times a season.

      God this seems to be my issue at the moment. I live down in South texas. We’re hitting 101 and our AC is breaking down on us 😢 it’s in the blazing sun all day and sun doesn’t go down till 9pm. It has been making a horrendous LOUD noise. It sounds like someone is doing outside mechanic work. I had to stay up last night to monitor the noise to avoid any neighbors calling the police department for noise complaint. Noise is still on going but now there is no cold air blowing. Can someone please help!! I am also pregnant due any second now so I am not having the best of time in my stuffy house. I do not have easy access in my back yard for a hose like you did in your video to top it off 😢

  • @evsidewinder2
    @evsidewinder2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the video Jay! I have a weird thing going on with our ac unit. 99% it works/sounds fine but sometimes and only after it has been running for hours continuously. Sometimes we hear a thump and then a much louder buzing noise afterwards. It seems still to be working but I typically just shut it off and back on in 30 minutes and it then sounds normal again. It looks like it's coming from the outside unit. And maybe the compressor? I know the blower fan looks fine when this has occurred.

    • @bradfordvandam3472
      @bradfordvandam3472 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alyssakdiaz9290 I'm not an expert but I have a good idea of what it might be. It's probably the AC motor on the condenser if its an outside unit. There are a ton of videos on how to replace a condenser motor and its super easy! Before removing any wires on your condenser make sure to take pictures first so you can remember exactly how to put the wires back. Make sure to shut the power off! If you wait to long to replace this motor your ac will over heat and the condenser will be dead. An A/C motor can cost $300-$700 depending on the size or your unit ton. Replacing everything according to 2023 can be very very expensive. I love this video because it taught me how to clean the condenser which is critical. I recommend spraying the ac condenser with a special condenser cleaning spray. Spray the condenser and let it work for about 5 minutes and then hose down.

    • @WordofAdviceTV

      Yes, the vacuum does very little to suck off anything from the coil. Much of the build up is inside the coil too and the vacuum can't get that. Unless you have an extremely strong vacuum, its a futile effort.

    What's up Jay? Do you know anything about the HVAC system in cars? I have a Jeep with an open grill that allows insects to get caught in the radiator fins. Would it be safe or even effective to spray it from inside out like in this video?

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey man! The coil on cars are pretty much the same thing. You could get most of the stuff off with water, just try not to bend too many of the aluminum fins in the process. (no pressure washer) If you put some soapy water into a spray bottle and spray down the coil that would probably help get more stuff off. Let it soak for 5 minutes before rinsing it off. You could also apply a brush to the fins to scrub some of the more caked on bugs. Again, if the fins are getting flattened left and right, it'd be better to just leave the bug there. 😄

    Hi Jay! Your videos have saved me tons of time and money! I love your explanations! Thank you so much for all you do!! Question: My A/C recently lost power. We had a tech come out and he told us it was a bad control board. He replaced that and we still had no power. I did some research and found out that we actually had a bad transformer. So I switched out the 24v transformer supplying power to the control board. Voila! We got it running again! Unfortunately, now it on works in the “ON” position and not on “AUTO”. Also if I run it in the on position, the blower fan will turn off after a few minutes. I’m hoping the “tech” that came out didn’t mess something up or wire the control board incorrectly. Could my thermostat be the problem? Any ideas?
