Guys don't you remember the episode where Jaune and Pyrrha first meet? The only place that Jaune recognized Pyrrha was from the cover of his favorite cereal box. The hoodie was probably a mascot for the same cereal that Pyrrha was featured on. Almost everyone has gotten a new outfit of some sort but Jaune chose to keep his old hoodie. He probably still wears it because it reminds him of Pyrrha.

Actually,Volume 4 is alot better than previus volumes, expecially because it' s a lot more focused in some things. I like it, and now I finally see, for Rwby, the possibility of becoming a masterpiece.

I never notice Jaune being the tallest in the group.
He wasn't always. He and Ren used to be the same height.
From what I've seen their heights were never even consistent.
For instance: Normally Ruby is just a little shorter than Weiss, however at the dance, even when Ruby had high heels now as well, Weiss was way taller than Ruby in one shot (Weiss had around the same height for her heels as usual). She should've been shorter or the same height.
Because the only model program they used, Poser, isn't the best. Now they use Maya, and its consistent.
according to the height chart, the guy is 6ft so yeah, he's pretty tall
Every male in this anime is tall as fuck. Ren is, to my knowledge, the shortest male and he's 5'7"

Jaune is covered in Phrrya!!!!! The hoodie is from the cereal she was on the box of, and his armor has Phrrya's armor/weapon/crown, and he's wearing her sash!!!! Just fucking kill me now!! He even watches the training video that she made for him on their secret balcony/ hide out!!!!!! He lives and breaths Phrrya because he blames himself for not being there, for not doing his job to guard the door which caused Amber to get killed and the Phrrya didn't become the fall maiden and so she died, mother fuck!! Jaune better be the one who kills Cinder

Pyrrha used her semblance in Vol. 1 to move Jaune's shield, saving him from the Ursa's claws and allowing him to deal the finishing blow. Now she can always be at his side to protect him.

Despite Ruby laughing at Jaune's hoodie being irrelevant to moving the story's plot forward, I'm glad they put it in. I was so worried that Ruby would have changed due to all the shit she went through, but when I saw her laugh, I knew she was still the same rose we all fell in love with
It's also a throwback. Pyrrha was on the cereal boxes when she was a student back home.

Aside from the fact that the Pumpkin Pete hoodie was used as a reminder of Pyrrha, let's examine the monetary value of that hoodie. If we go by the Amazon asking price of $14.69 USD/box (without shipping and handling) of Pumpkin Pete's cereal. Then we take into account that Jaune needed to send in 50 box tops to get it, then his hoodie alone set him back $734.50 USD. I'm not sure about the currency in RWBY and what the value would be compared to USD, but that's a hell of a lot of money for a hoodie.
So down the road they acctualy put this in the manga anthology
each box has a cut out tag to be sent in
and Amazon's price is a stupid comparison as a store bought box is only like £5 at most to give a total of £250
granted thats still alot of money but no where near the crazy number you give
also he ate that cereal over the course of several years (according to the anthology)

I laughed alongside Ruby when I first watched this scene. It felt really good knowing that not everything was still dark and depressing.
