there is something about Margaret's interactions with her daughter, and Abbie wearing the same zip up through out the movie makes me think Abbie died at some point in the movie or before the events of the movie take place. The zip up really stood out to me. Abbie is dressed differently only in the last scene when she is holding the baby that is supposed to be dead. Both Ben and Abbie are a fantasy at that point. Abbie's accident and the way the camera zoomed in on her wound, the way Abbie goes to that one friend of hers(also where she gets hurt). She mentions her friend twice and on the second time Margaret doesnt let her go. Perhaps she is reliving the traumatic events of Abbie's death and is living out a fantasy where Abbie is going off to college. The way Abbie's and Margaret's interactions come across more like memories. The tooth which was very weird. Not sure quite yet what I think of it. The way Margaret screams "my children" grouping Abbie and Ben who died years ago together. Perhaps Abbie's death was the trigger. I also think the room in the inn was hers. At that point she was living two lives, dressing like two different people. Most of what we see is happening in her head, including the hotel scene. At the end she has both her kids there with her, until the realization hits. Thats my take anyways. Curious if anyone else had the same thought about Abbie. Just something about her character did not feel "present" or "alive" to me. Did Abbie die a month or however long before her 18th birthday? Loosing her second child triggered an episode of delusion. The trauma of an abusive relationship with David, and loosing her first child under extremely traumatic circumstances, which were very likely not what she tells us in her monologue. In her mind David is a monster, but also the memory of her baby is always going to be connected to David. Hence, in her delusion David has Ben in his belly. Does she blame herself for Ben's death and perhaps, Abbie's. The scene when she doesnt let Abbie go out. If Abbie did get fatally hurt, maybe in Margarets mind, if she didnt let her out, it wouldnt had happened? Anyways, does it make sense to anybody else?
Geez, you totally summed it up perfectly. I had to watch it twice before realizing she was delusional and having a schizoaffective episode. Anyway thanks for the breakdown, best I’ve read thus far. 🫡👏🏾👏🏾
I haven’t watched this review yet, but I already know I’m gonna appreciate it. I found this channel six days ago and have never binge watched any other review channel a fraction as much as I have this one. My new favorite, for sure. Extremely grateful and happy I came across it.
@Andrew Cottingham Absolutely gonna listen to every last one of those and read Nick’s reviews, too. I’m a total film fiend and have watched a truly embarrassing number of film review/analysis channels, and there’s just nothing else even vaguely like this channel on youtube. The depth of Nick’s film knowledge was the first thing that really stood out and pulled me in, but they’re both so smart and thoughtful and funny and insightful and great.
You will love this channel. Nick and Joseph are honest and fun to watch. I also think Tim Roth is one of the best actors out there today. Always enjoy films he is attached to.
Just watched it. Very haunting movie ( for me). At one point I wondered why I was watching it because I felt sorry for her but glad I finished it. That ending, it’s the ending everyone would want but you know it’s wrong. Tim Roth was truly a evil man.
Joseph's comment about you "have to be prepared to watch this movie" rang so true when I saw the pic of Tim Roth. Looking a bit rough there, buddy ... but I still love you!
I just watched the trailer yesterday, and saw this review pop up this morning!! The trailer caught my interest right away, and now I know I need to see it. Sometimes I like a movie that I don't have fun watching, but it makes me think.
I thought this movie was fantastic on every level. I can't wait to see what this guy does next. This movie is seriously dark, but you don't realize just how pitch black it is until you're thinking about it after.
I don’t normally seek out spoilers but I did on this one because I heard the ending was demented and gruesome (and couldn’t imagine from the trailer). Dang. Appreciate the details. Actually enjoyed listening to y’all on this one. Not sure if I’ll like this film, but gonna give it a try. I’ll see just about anything Rebecca Hall does. Also IFC Films is really bringing unique content in the area of psychological thrillers this year.
Thanks for the review. It was so interesting to hear you all talk about the control topic. You all taking about any topic is fun to listen too. I want to see this for sure
I think this actress, Rebecca Hall is so uniquely beautiful. I love seeing her in film, look forward to seeing more from her and not just for "face" think she is extremely talented.
Just saw this and I loved it. Movies about trauma and mental health are right up my alley, but I was here for Rebecca Hall and she killed it! So much to talk about! Sadly, I feel like barely anyone will see this.
Was resurrection... with Sam Elliot and Ellen becomes a healer .. the end scene is at a dessert gas station? My grandfather's favorite film. This review made me flash on Night Porter ... but sounds so uncomfortable and wow... happy that films like this are being made... but wow
Thanks, Nick, for mentioning the 1980 Ellen Burstyn/Sam Shepherd film. No one ever talks about that one. I LOVE that film. Such beautiful performances.
Me too, that's what it seemed like. He told Margret he'd been watching the daughter and knew she had fallen off the bike, etc. So seemed like he planted it to mess with Margaret.
Omg did we totally miss the elephant in the room? This is classic NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder). If you have ever lived with anyone with this diagnosis, you will completely understand what was going on! It totally is alien to anyone who has not lived through it.
Joseph: It's a *little psycho* drama I guess. LOL! No, kidding! Could it be this "psycho" is *not* Tim Roth's character? Clear points on losing control, stressing "everyone has a breaking point" - liked all your explanations. I liked your podcast #62 To Die For too.
Hey..you think this was a film was liken to "The Tale" starring Laura Dern, about internalized trauma of SA or moles*****n but with a supernatural horror slant?
Just watched this, liked it a lot and will probably be thinking about it for a good while. The writing is strange and ambitious, and Tim Roth is creepy as shit
I'm thinking that this movie should be seen back to back with Men. I'm waiting for a third movie that has the same feel with those two. Or maybe Fresh will do in this category.
I thought it was cool. My take is a severe relapse after she gets pregnant bu her coworker. A complete flashback with all the rites and rituals of the initial experience. Scared herself with the lengths she was willing to go for her children as a result of the trauma ( brainwashing). You could subjectively make this case.
I was guessing the tooth was actually from David. When Margaret first confronted him in the park he smiled and that tooth was missing. I think at that point she realized or imagined it was his and there could be big trouble for Abbie she needed to save her from. He also admitted to being responsible for Abbie‘s accident. Thank you for the clarity on this film.
This film made me appreciate more movies like Darren Aronovsky's Mother and Alex Garland's Men, because it has a totally pedestrian approach to an otherwise fascinating story.
I really got into this movie, so much so that I almost forgot to pick up my kids who were trick-or-treating pretty late at night!!!! That being said, this movie could have been saved by one final shot of Margaret sitting in a room in a hospital gown, holding a doll, and they pan out, and she’s in a psych ward. I really related to the fear of losing your child to them growing up and leaving home. That was probably the trigger that led to Maggie losing it.
This movie sounds like it was a perfect opportunity for mike Myer!s to reprise his role as fat bastard. “Babeh! It’s what’s for dinner” jk but the movie sounds interesting for sure.
She’s an amazing actress but the movie is terrible. I understand it but it still is not a good movie. If she wasn’t the actress, this would be unwatchable.
It's an odd bird...🦤 It's gonna take you somewhere you don't really expect...🛼 Maybe be comfortable where you're sitting...🛋 Have your lil' cold beverage next to you...🍹 😅🤣😂 Great review gents! Thanks for your time and review! 5/5 for your channel and ongoing content!! 😍
For future reference, if you're going to whine that a movie was a waste of time, compare it to a movie that you thought was worthwhile. What movie wasn't a waste of time, in your expert opinion?

Did she really kill David or wad that all in her head .
Have you guys seen Night House
I absolutely love both of you! Thank you so much for reviewing this. I read the script before it was made into a film.
Nick, that look when Joseph was talking about living together!!!
Just watched it. Very haunting movie ( for me). At one point I wondered why I was watching it because I felt sorry for her but glad I finished it. That ending, it’s the ending everyone would want but you know it’s wrong. Tim Roth was truly a evil man.
Just watched this movie last. Great review guys! You nailed it!
What's all in her head? Was Tim Roth real? Did she really kill him? I couldn't reconcile the ending
I love this channel and am so thankful for you two spoiling these films 🎥 and giving such an honest review. I appreciate it so much.
Joseph's comment about you "have to be prepared to watch this movie" rang so true when I saw the pic of Tim Roth. Looking a bit rough there, buddy ... but I still love you!
Love your take on this. ❤ P.S. You two are me & my husband! We're the UK version. 😅
I just watched the trailer yesterday, and saw this review pop up this morning!!
The trailer caught my interest right away, and now I know I need to see it.
Sometimes I like a movie that I don't have fun watching, but it makes me think.
y'all i get so excited seeing your videos. i know i'm getting a decent review, insight into the film, and some laughs. thanks!
I thought this movie was fantastic on every level. I can't wait to see what this guy does next. This movie is seriously dark, but you don't realize just how pitch black it is until you're thinking about it after.

17:54 OMG,😂 Nick's face....😏🤫
Yes!! 😂😂😂
Trilogy of Terror. My sisters and I called it the YiYi doll! lol we were kids. Thank you for the review.
I was so scared of that stupid little doll as a kid!! Omg I was terrified he would cut my foot with his little knife.
@@pamelalansbury94 Me too, but I loved it at the same time!
Lol we called it the he-he doll.
@@BookMaven9 😄
All of the films you reviewing are so inspiring to me and opened up my mind on making my own script :)
I enjoy myself some Rebecca Hall. She is always good even in a crappy movie. This will be a flick that I check out.
Great review 🎥 I’ll be checking this one out
I think this actress, Rebecca Hall is so uniquely beautiful. I love seeing her in film, look forward to seeing more from her and not just for "face" think she is extremely talented.

If I had a dollar for everytime nick referenced the Virginia Wolfe movie, LMAO I’m gonna have to watch it
Was resurrection... with Sam Elliot and Ellen becomes a healer .. the end scene is at a dessert gas station? My grandfather's favorite film. This review made me flash on Night Porter ... but sounds so uncomfortable and wow... happy that films like this are being made... but wow
Rebecca Hall is always fantastic as is Roth. Great review I'll definitely check this one out.
Thanks, Nick, for mentioning the 1980 Ellen Burstyn/Sam Shepherd film. No one ever talks about that one. I LOVE that film. Such beautiful performances.
This doesn’t sound like Secretary, Nick!!!😂💙
I watched it and soon realized I wasted about 2 hours of my life that I’ll never get back
I thought the tooth in her daughter’s wallet had something to do with his missing tooth …??
Me too, that's what it seemed like. He told Margret he'd been watching the daughter and knew she had fallen off the bike, etc. So seemed like he planted it to mess with Margaret.

@17:57 The look HAHA!
Hey..you think this was a film was liken to "The Tale" starring Laura Dern, about internalized trauma of SA or moles*****n but with a supernatural horror slant?
Can't wait to watch it!!!
Goddamn the spoilers in this review make this film sound incredibly insane. Lol.
Facials Nick 😁
I'll watch purely for RH. I just hope it's not too body horrorish
What’s the name of the song that plays at the beginning of this video?
Bruh said "epitoome" 😂
Just watched this, liked it a lot and will probably be thinking about it for a good while. The writing is strange and ambitious, and Tim Roth is creepy as shit
I'm thinking that this movie should be seen back to back with Men. I'm waiting for a third movie that has the same feel with those two. Or maybe Fresh will do in this category.
This movie is so much better than Men
I thought it was cool. My take is a severe relapse after she gets pregnant bu her coworker. A complete flashback with all the rites and rituals of the initial experience. Scared herself with the lengths she was willing to go for her children as a result of the trauma ( brainwashing). You could subjectively make this case.
There is one or two scenes of her standing behind a framed drawing. Is that the one she was talking about?
I was guessing the tooth was actually from David. When Margaret first confronted him in the park he smiled and that tooth was missing. I think at that point she realized or imagined it was his and there could be big trouble for Abbie she needed to save her from. He also admitted to being responsible for Abbie‘s accident. I loved watching this analysis. So much insight into the movie and human behavior.
I haven't loved a movie as much as this one for a while. Thanks for the deep dive.
Eats her baby… WHAT
Am I the only one thinking all of this was in her head, ALL of it, other than her coworker she told the story too
This film made me appreciate more movies like Darren Aronovsky's Mother and Alex Garland's Men, because it has a totally pedestrian approach to an otherwise fascinating story.
I just finished this film, I felt the SAME THING and all I could think about was MEN! RESURRECTION was 🔥 though!
I love that his demise was the result of him selling her on a narrative and then losing control of that narrative. He fucked around and found out.
Gaslighting the movie
Do you guys have a fan or air conditioning running in the background? Well, Cali must be _hawt_ right now.
Yes, the AC turned on while we were recording.
Great acting but the movie was shit.
This movie made no sense and was fake deep with no real ending. I’m surprised you all liked it.
It's an odd bird...🦤
It's gonna take you somewhere you don't really expect...🛼
Maybe be comfortable where you're sitting...🛋
Have your lil' cold beverage next to you...🍹
😅🤣😂
Great review gents! Thanks for your time and review! 5/5 for your channel and ongoing content!! 😍
Thus movie was totally messed up, unbelieveable, what a waste of my time.
For future reference, if you're going to whine that a movie was a waste of time, compare it to a movie that you thought was worthwhile. What movie wasn't a waste of time, in your expert opinion?
This movie is garbage 🗑
wack ahh movie
🫂 for Joseph, if he needs em
Great video! 🌞
I mean that's what it's like to live with someone.... right? 🤷🏿👨🦲 18:00 🫨🤨😑🫣
