I had something like that too, in my randomized Emerald Nuzlocke. I had Crobat and Sandslash out against Sealeo and Slugma in a double battle. I saw the ice type Sealeo right away and thought it would be bad for Crobat, so I swapped out for Ampharos. Then, immediately forgetting what I just did, I had Sandslash use Earthquake.
The ironic part of it, of course, was that it OHKO'd the Slugma and Sealeo along with my poor Ampharos, so if I had kept Crobat in I wouldn't have had the problem in the first place.

Had something like that happen to me, too. Accidently had my Empoleon Surf my poor Gligar in a double battle in Lake Verity. What's sadder is the fact that I mistakenly thought that Gligar evolved with the Razor Claw, as opposed to the Razor FANG, which is why I had it instead of Gliscor. Would it have changed anything? Probably not, but still.

I don’t normally comment on stuff, but I wanted to let you know I’ve been watching you since you had less than 5k subscribers. I always appreciated your humor, even in the earlier videos where you weren’t as energetic as you are now. I love the way you approach nuzlockes, with the silly challenge runs and the unique strategies you do to overcome stuff because of the limitations of your challenge runs. I think it is EXTREMELY cool of you that you have always posted your losses, mistakes, and blunders because no matter how good you are at something, you’re bound to fuck up sometimes. It has always rubbed me the wrong way when people only post when they succeed to try to give the illusion to their audience they’re perfect at what they do. You are a gem of the Pokémon community. You are my favorite nuzlocker I have ever seen, and I think you are also one of the best (not saying that to gas you up, I genuinely mean it). Keep it up Dr. HG

In Pokémon White 2 I was doing a standard nuzlocke and everything was going great. I had a full team of fully evolved Pokémon that worked like a well oiled machine, with a particular favourite being Mary the Leavanny, whose high base stats had saved the team from deaths multiple times earlier on in the run.
Like an overconfident fool I had added the stipulation that I had to battle every trainer on every route (which was what I did in normal play throughs) without looking up the teams.
On route 14 there is a triple battle that includes a Gligar on the opponent’s right of the field, and due to the way my party was organized, Mary was on my right of the field. With my opponent’s other Pokémon being no immediate threat to Mary, I locked in my moves and prepared for an interesting fight.
I was unaware that flying type attacks can hit anywhere on the field in a triple battle, and before I realized what was happening, Gligar used acrobatics to knock out Mary in a single attack. The rest of the battle didn’t go perfectly either, so I was rather upset after it concluded. Thus in my righteous anger the next choice I made was to battle another ace trainer that proceeded to tear apart the remainder of my team, reducing my team from a well oiled battling machine to 1-2 remaining members.
I did end up finishing the nuzlocke, defeating Iris with a memorable Mamoswine and Starmie duo, but the mechanical logic with which I put together the teams I used for the remainder of the Nuzlocke could never replace the love that I had putting together the original team.
I felt dead inside for the rest of the playthrough, probably not helps by using a Banette that was basically only capable of firing off will-o-wisps before having to be swapped out in every single battle (though said Will-o-wisps were helpful in dealing with Iris’ Haxorus, so I’ll give it props for that).

Pokemon Shield, Nuzlocke but could only use each Pokeball variant once. I was playing in German for funsies. “The opposing player is about to send out Mogelbaum. Will you switch?”. Hmm, I don’t know what Mogelbaum is, but I do know that a Baum is a tree, so it’s probably Grass-type. Let me send in my incredibly lucky female Salandit.
In comes a Sudowoodo, ready to annihilate me with a Rock move. Turns out, “Mogeln” means “cheat” in German. Sudowoodo is a fake tree, and its name alone tricked me into thinking it was an actual tree. That was so funny.
(Thankfully I made it out alive by landing a Will-o-wisp and switching, but only barely!)

I will never forget the time in SS when I battled the two beauties on Route 37. Used Quilava and Geodude thinking they'd not hit either so hard, but the first Clefable decided it wanted to be MEAN to me and rolled an Energy Ball with its Metronome. Jaw drops as Geodude goes down, before I send in Zubat. She was doing well helping to take out the first pair of pink beasts, and almost the second ones too. But the Stars just aligned against me that day and the second Clefable rolled a SHOCK WAVE with Metronome! Worst part is THAT'S NOT WHAT KILLED ZUBAT, She lived with like 5 hp! But I didn't even get time to think about if I should heal her or switch her out before the second Wigglytuff reminded me that she hadn't attacked yet by sending a Pound straight to Zubat's face and killing her too! We won, but I had to take a second because I was in awe at how shit my luck was. Funniest thing is that while trying to train up my pokemon for Morty's gym afterwards, I ran into a SHINY STANTLER! I guess it was the games way of saying "Damn, sorry 'bout that! Take this to make up for it!"

My worst Nuzlocke death happened in a Colosseum Nuzlocke where I was letting myself catch every Pokemon. I was trying to catch a Sneasal with a lead Hariyama. I had a Reflect up and some defense drops from Screech. Then the freaking Sneasal crit me, which ignored the Reflect but still considered the Screech defense drops and killer me from very full health.
To me this death is especially memorable because 1) I had literally commented to a friend about this exact interaction earlier in the play-through, and 2) the only reason I even bothered to catch Sneasal is because I wanted the item it was holding. Turns out it didn’t even have said item. So I lost Hariyama for nothing

My worst Nuzlocke death was back in about 2011ish? The records have been lost to time, since this was on the Nuzlocke Forums back when they were on Zetaboards, before that site imploded.
I was doing a Valentine's Colorlocke of Randomized Emerald, and had a Seel as my starter and a Magby as my only other Pokémon at the time. I went to route 102, and my first encounter was...a shiny Weezing. I was in Skype chat at the time and people in chat were begging me to save a state. I responded with "There's no way it has Selfdestruct, it's fine!"
It was not fine. Lost the Weezing and my starter, and ran out of Pokéballs.

I've never actually completed a nuzlocke because I make a dumb mistake decide "it shouldn't count" and then do it again, and again, and again. Closest I came was Pokemon Violet which I lost because Nurse Joy told me to go to Kabu when Iono should've been my next stop. In my defense, I play without a database pulled up, even if the game is new to me. Definitely explains why I lose them so often though.

I lost one of my best pokémon, Hel the Drapion, in the Ghetsis fight of White 2. Her ability Battle Armor was cancelled by Cofagrigus' Mummy, and then she got crit by the opposite sniper Drapion's Earthquake from full health and through X defends. It was a soul link, so it also killed my friend's Flygon.
What makes this death even worse, is that I knew it could happen and said so out loud in the vocal chat. "oh, I can get crit now. But I'm already set up, let's stick to the plan". I was so focused on losing battle armor, that I forgot that Drapion can also have sniper. A regular crit without sniper wouldn't have killed

My top three in no particular order:
    1. My first ever nuzlocke, on Fire Red, my Beedrill (Waspinator) ran clean through everyone in Sabrina’s gym including all of her Pokémon but Alakazam. I grew to love him so much and he became one of my favorites to this day. I got so cocky with him I clicked Twineedle…only for Zam to outspeed and kill with Psychic. Death by hubris, of a beloved friend.
    2. On my Emerald leg of a genlocke, I left my Poliwhirl (Swarley) in against a trainers Manectric, which was already stupid enough, but it was on a rainy route and the Manectric knew THUNDER.
    3. Not a boneheaded moment, but a cunning strategy that went tits up at the last moment. In a Heart Gold run of pure Normal types, I crafted a masterful, foolproof strategy against Lance that would allow me to sweep him with a PERSIAN who has maxed out SpA Baton Passed to him. I swept through everyone until his last Mon, Aerodactyl. It outspeed and hit with Rock Slide, which both crit AND flinched. It meant Persian couldn’t kill it now. If Aero crit OR flinched I’d have been okay. Instead I had to pivot around and lost both my Clefable AND Granbull before my Kangaskhan finished it off.

Since the floor is open, one of my dumbest Nuzlocke deaths happened recently. RIP, Solvalou. :(
The challenge: Beat Pokemon Y using only Pokemon (and moves) eligible for Sky Battles. I still haven't finished this run because I dread Wulfric's gym under these conditions.
Before you meet Yveltal, you have to fight four Flare Admins, and one of them had a Mightyena and a Houndoom. I sent Solvalou, my FLYGON (Power-Up Punch, Crunch, Rock Slide, and Dragon Tail), to fight this guy. She beat the Mightyena with two Power-Up Punches, but when Houndoom came out, I made the biggest mistake possible: I commanded Dragon Tail.
If you don't know, Dragon Tail forces the target to switch if it hits, so Game Freak granted this move NEGATIVE PRIORITY, so Solvalou would move last. I forgot about that aspect, not thinking about what Houndoom could do to me.
...which was Foul Play. ...when my Flygon built up +2 Attack. Full to empty in like one second.
In addition to forgetting about Dragon Tail's negative priority, the reason I chose that move was because I wanted something more accurate on the off-chance Rock Slide missed. Except Rock Slide and Dragon Tail HAVE THE SAME ACCURACY! (90) There was no good reason to use Dragon Tail, and now I consider that move cursed.
Maybe I could've avoided this if I just taught Solvalou Return over either Dragon Tail or Crunch.
And before anyone questions this: I'm also playing without moves which are banned from Sky Battles. So, no Bulldoze or Earth Power for Solvalou, unfortunately. (Mud-Slap is apparently fine, though.)

Losing my Scizor in Victory Road during a Platinum Hardcore run. I got trapped by a trainer's Magnezone with Magnet Pull and only had Bullet Punch and X-Scissor for attacking moves, so was forced to watch the very first Scizor I had ever used in over 20 years of playing Pokemon die before my eyes.
The kicker? I actually had Rock Smash on Scizor prior to Victory Road, but had removed it to make room for the incoming Iron Head on level up. If I had Rock Smash, I would have killed that Magnezone. Truly the stupidest death I ever had.
Close second is losing my Lanturn to Wallace's Gyarados in Emerald because I missed the text that said rain was done, clicked Thunder instead of Thunderbolt (which would have been enough), it missed, and Gyarados hit back with an EQ. Almost lost my whole run in that one moment.

My worst nuzlocke death was actually *three* nuzlocke deaths: running into the double battle at the end of Mount Lanakila in USUM. I'd seen your nuzlockes from beginning to end as a guide for my own USUM nuzlocke, and yet not only did I completely forget that double battles can be skipped by only having one Pokémon in your party, but I actually let Primarina, Alolan Golem, Tsareena and Magnezone in that battle - barely made it out alive but in the end I managed to beat those two trainers and the entire nuzlocke.
The worst part is that Primarina's death was a 50/50 after another: the opposing Vikavolt was facing down my Krookodile and Primarina and had a kill on both, so I switched Krookodile out predicting Bug Buzz... just for it to hit my Primarina with Zap Cannon.

Forgery the Eelecktross died at the hands of a ledian. I swapped him in, got bit with silver wind and went “huh that did more damage than I thought. Eh it’s fine” and then proceeded to click thunderwave, intending to hit thunderbolt. Ledian then used a second silver wind, knocking poor forgery down to the yellow, a silver wind that got an Omni-boost. Now I had an entire healthy party in the back, but my dumbass after seeing that Ledian, even when paralyzed, outsped me and had just got an Omni boost, decided to stay in thinking I would outsped it and hit it with thunderbolt. What makes it worse is that this was mere minutes after losing my starter.

Sounding off: Lost my Nidoking in one turn to Rival 5's Jolteon in my first Nuzlocke (Yellow version from memory only) RIGHT AFTER it took out Kadabra with Pin Missile. Right before it nearly murdered Snorlax with a crit Double Kick.
I will never again forget these two things about Gen 1: crits run off of base Speed, and Bug+Poison are mutually super effective to each other.

The death of Shedinja on Pokemon Emerald against Wattson.
To be absolutely fair, I don't like to play with the open sheet of all trainers and all of their pokemon moveset, but I believe I have no excuse since I already beat Pokemon Emerald. I placed Shedinja against the first Voltorb like "huh, this little guy is invincible, free win!" thinking about the Magneton, Electrike and Manectric moveset, without realizing that Voltorb has Rollout. That day I quitted the Nuzlocke entirely. That's it.

Radish the Mega Venusaur and Spike the Nidoking became MVPs on my team since my starter Wizzo the Braixen died to Korrina in Geosenge. Radish and Spike were absolute monsters, but they were both killed by a trainers Medicham with Zen Headbutt *right before the elite four*
    I. Was. Crushed.

My biggest blunder was trying to beat Emerald with only Electric types. I was merrily beating seven bells out of Wallace with my Magneton and then he counters with Gyarados.
"And now Wallace has gone completely hatstands. He's just asking for it, not only is that a Water type, it's also a Flying type and that means Electricity...oh he's got Earthquake. And I have now shut up, as I am dead."
To this day that is why whenever I use a Gyarados (which doesn't happen as much as you might think) I always teach it Earthquake.

My most embarrassing deaths? I was Nuzlocking Black 2, and I’ll be the first to admit it, I was playing terribly. I lost most of my team right before the 8th gym, and in my frustration, I kept getting reckless and losing the Pokémon I brought in from the box as replacements while training them up. Eventually, there came a point where I had no one left in the box, and no further encounters I could get. I decided to train my pitiful remains of a team at the stadiums in Nimbasa City, and that was my downfall, because I’d forgotten that the trainers in the stadiums level up as you progress through the game. I lost my entire run to a pair of cheerleaders.

Easily my worst Nuzlocke death was a Furfrou I had in Ultra Moon. Admittedly I probably shouldn't have kept her on the team for as long as I did - by the fourth island she was falling pretty far behind in the stats departement, but gods damnit she'd single handedly carried me through the first two islands and I wanted to make her Champion. I had TWO Ghosts types and TWO Flying types with Intimidate on the team primarily for the purpose of keeping her safe from Fighting types. And I just... kept her in. In a double battle. Against two Fighting types. And she got double Hi Jump Kicked.
Needless to say I put the game down for a good week before picking the run back up.

My most embarrassing death: In a certain romhack, there are repeatable battles for riskfree EXP or EV grinding in Mossdeep. I put my game on autopilot, went to grab some water, and before I could make it back my fighter had learned Memento by levelup and used it against the lvl 3 opponent... (Ironically, the only move those trainers use is also Memento!)
(Also I just realised this is literally the first time I ever comment on a Flygon video, so: you always manage to make something entertaining out of a run even if it seems like it would be a slog to actually play through it - keep up the good work!)

I lost my Gyarados, the entire key to taking down Cynthia in a plain Platinum HC run. I set up 2 D dances on spiritomb, took it out and then tried to take out the togekiss, it was supposed to be an OHKO. It survived. Gyarados got OHKOed by a shock wave.
What happened was when I cooked the fight I figured out the IVs I'd need to one shot Togekiss. I used vitamins to boost his stats (so I didn't have to grind for hours on low level mons) and noticed I couldn't use enough to get the stat as high as possible. I'd rarely used a lot of vitamins in any game so I didn't realize you had a limit on how many you could use of one kind on one mon. Then I decided not to recalc things or simply go grind on wild mons. Instead I just assumed I'd gone over the needed # of IVs in calcing and ran the fight.
I managed to get the W but that sucked and made me panic so bad.

Just wanted to say I love your videos and they've inspired me to try nuzlockes of my own :)
Here's a sneak peak into my first nuzlocke...
I was doing a nuzlocke of Scarlet, and I didn't want my vivillon to die to Brassius' Sudowoodo. I assumed that it would go for rock throw, completely ignoring the ai's preference for speed control, so I sacrificed my Spidops to break sturdy.
When I switched Spidops in, Sudowoodo went for... Trailblaze. A move that:
    a) would have doner next to no damage to my vivillon
    b) would not have allowed Sudowoodo to outspeed the next turn
The worst part is, my Vivillon probably could have survived a rock throw given that it was tera bug...
This death is so embarrassing, especially because I wasn't really thinking during that fight, I just assumed that was my only way forward with a team realy weak to rock types. But it was my first ever nuzlocke, so there's at least a semblance of an excuse.

I went into the fight with what I thought was the brilliant plan of just using Thief to steal Gardevoir’s Mega Stone only to finally remember that that can’t possibly work immediately after pressing the button to do it. It failed, and Gardevoir Mega Evolved and OHKOed Greninja before he even knew what hit him.

This video was so funny, I'm glad we can revisit the past and learn from it while having a bit of fun.
One of my worst nuzlocke deaths ever happened while playing a randomized run of Emerald. It was one of my first times doing a nuzlocke and I picked Geodude as my starter. I fought Wally right as soon as I got to Mauville and he sent out a luvdisc. I thought to myself "wow, luvdisc is so awful, I'll just beat it with geodude" and instantly ate my words when it instantly one-shot me with water gun because I was a cocky idiot. Now I know not to underestimate the power of super-effective moves, especially ones that target your weaker defense...
Anyway going to recommend a challenge like I usually do, I'd like you to try Pokemon Firered or Leafgreen but your Pokemon always have 0 EVS and IVS and all enemy trainers have max 31 IVS and 252 EVS in every stat, past the the normal EV limit. FR and LG are generally easy games so lets see if the worst possible stats stand a chance against the best possible!
Alternatively, Pokemon FR/LG but all trainer (and maybe even wild) Pokemon have +1 in every stat, kind of like a Totem Omniboost from Sun and Moon.

I was so confident my moley boy could OHKO with rock slide, and you what- he nearly did, but just fell short and quickly got one shot himself. What hurt the most was that death could have been prevented in two ways; It was the last turn of centi's Dynamax so i could've protected and not bother with the increased health, or- I dunno- equipped my drilbur with the HARD STONE I HAD FOR THE FIGHT BEFOREHAND!
...Anyway, I also lost my greedent on my way to spikemuth against a team yell GaLinoone. Confusion turned to despair as I realized why my fat squirrel was faster; Counter.

My worst death was a normal type only run of Y. Since the game is relatively easy, when I got a Smeargle and realized I had good tools for shenanigans, I decided to be a joker upon the gyms and proceeded to use it to set up sweep Korrina, Ramos, Olympia and Wulfric. All was going well, and I had a cheeky plan for Diantha. I just needed a move that could take out her Hawlucha and a few other things reliably. Lucky Chants, Dragon Dances, I'm feeling clever. Her much-harried Hawlucha goes down, Goodra comes out.
So, that was how I learned Avalanche is negative priority. I thought it worked like Payback.
Still beat Diantha, though. RIP, Pup the Smeargle, you were a trooper.

The one and only nuzlocke I've done was in Pokemon Colosseum. I don't remember it super clearly, but it was in the rematch against Cipher Admin Venus. She had Milotic and (I think) Bellossom, I had Forretress and (I think) Umbreon, both our final mons (for those who don't know, every battle in Colosseum is a Double Battle).
My gambit was to have Forretress take Surfs from Milotic and then one-shot it with Bide, then Bellossom can go down easily since it was at low health and couldn't do much damage. Forretress survived three Surfs, bypassing Attract to boot, but on the turn it would have released Bide, it was just too lovey-dovey to move. Both them and Umbreon fall, ending the run.
Haven't done another nuzlocke since then just because I don't prefer the play-style, but it gave me some noteworthy memories

The first cyrus fight rolls around and it beats sneasel, but bad freeze rng leaves it at like 30 hp. Still more than enough for his murkrow in the back, plus my only other super effective move on murkrow is from rotom, who would not appreciate a faint attack or whatever dark move it has. So I send in the probopass, it tanks wing attack and only takes like 4 damage. I'm super safe here, I can survive at least 3 crits... and then his level 34 murkrow uses night shade on my now 26hp probopass and my jaw just hits the floor

My very first completed Nuzlocke was Diamond, I was prepping before the Elite Four and the entire team was based around Cynthia. Infernape, Crobat, Gastrodon, Tentacruel, Gyarados, and Weavile. I had everything planned out perfectly, the hardest was being Weavile, since it was my only option to take out the garchomp, and the most reliable way to do that, was praying for a OHKO with max atk and speed ivs using Ice Shard with a Never Melt Ice (even on a low roll its still be at least 99%). I went into the E4 losing my Gyarados whichw as fine, and make it to Cynthia. I sweep most of her team fairly simply, and last comes out Garchomp. I had Weavile in ready for the one shot... and Garchomp lives.. in the yellow. Down goes Weavile. Infernape gone to Earthquake, and Crobat gone to Dragon Rush... Gastrodon and Tentacruel are both less than half their hp. I was ready to give up. I send out Tentacruel as Garchomp uses brick break when any other move could have been used, and Tentacruel finished the fight. Credits roll and im back at home, i check my team. My Weavile wasnt holding the Never Melt Ice, it was holding the Dark Plate. That ONE mistake almost cost me the entire run.

I’m surprised the Jolteon from the HGSS Gift Only run didn’t make it in. Dying to Sonic Boom feels like it would be worse than dying to Dragon Rage, since it does less damage.
Anyway, my worst death (out of the two Nuzlockes I’ve done so far) was the gift Dratini (evolved to Dragonair) in HeartGold. I’d made it to Kanto with only 3 deaths, and the level cap was high enough that I could use my Dragonite, so I was training it up (on cartridge, so no rare candies) on Victory Road (because HG has a wide range of high level wild Pokémon to train on). A wild Donphan didn’t die to a hit that I thought would kill it, and then I didn’t outspeed to run away, so my Dragonair died. I could’ve switched out, I probably could’ve just killed with Extreme Speed, but I was just not paying attention to that battle, so that was stupid of me

Probably my worst was losing Blood Moon during the battle with Drayton in InDisk. By the time it happened, I was in full attrition mode and sacrificing multiple Lv.70-75 Pokemon in every fight in order to create openings for my Lv.90 main teammates to land the killing blows. One of the ones I threw away in that regard was Blood Moon, whom I shot full of vitamins before the fight but ultimately still fell to Archaludon.
If I'd actually taken the time to grind it, it probably would've lived, and would've been an invaluable teammate for the Terapagos battle that ripped a hole in my team just a few hours later.
