The aspect of this film that really resonated with me was the idea of going back to a place you identified as "home" only to feel as if what you thought was home no longer feels that way. It makes me very sad to feel that way sometimes, but life is all about change and learning to accept and adapt.
The older I get, the more I understand garden state, I saw it in the early 2000s, it didn't resonate as much as it did in my twentys now, the nomadic feeling in your twentys, aimless and unsure, this movie gives me a sense of purpose within that
When I had an hour commute to and from work I'd put the Garden State sound track on a lot and just zone. One of the best movie soundtracks imo. Iconic.
I cried....my life is slowly changing in rearrangement too...it's horrible....i watched inside out last night again...i miss my parents and my siblings....our family is apart again and I feel like I've enabled this for too long now
Its was my FAVORITE at the time. I could recite the movie scene by scene. I was a abused and a drug addict. This was just me and gave me kinda hope. This and Ordinary People are the best if your a sad rock boy (smashing pumpkins reference)

I'm disappointed that I didn't watch this movie sooner. But even better I watched it when I'm 26 like he is in the film. It was the perfect movie to watch for me at this point in time in my life.

@Christopher Davidson Yes, I saw both. Last Kiss was a adaptation from Italy 🇮🇹 & bought by Hollywood (or maybe directly bought by Zach Braff?!, I don’t like to say it but the English/USA - Version was disappointing compared to the Original. =/ We'll see hopefully soon a next project from him! ✌🏼
I know, that’s good writing. But no, it’s not autobiographical at all. He went to great lengths at the time to stress that it was pure fiction, that he had a great relationship with both his parents - (and no personal experience from severe depression or heavy medication). They are both psychiatrists (therapists?) though, so he took some inspiration from their expertise.
This movie and this song literally changed my life. Deconstruct ego. You are powerful beyond imagining. You are Love. The Time is Now. Society is not your friend. Shut the fucking TV off. Go within. Lose yourself to find yourself. There's beauty in the breakdown.

But its like, extra validating when it's someone so well respected, like Terence. ☺ Its also really interesting to be drawn back to a comment i made so long ago on a song that was so important to me, that's got such an impassioned message in it.. ..... This summarizes my relationship with my mother. Which also explains my deep love for this film.
I remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. This song coming on was the icing on the cake
Me too. One of those movies I can't stop watching if it happens to come on...it helps that I have a huge crush on Natalie Portman.
