  • Modern heart surgery explained simply and clearly: The mitral valve is one of four heart valves. If it is either too narrow (stenosis) or leaking (regurgitation), it may be necessary to repair the diseased heart valve. In this video, Prof Dr Farhad Bakhtiary (Director of Cardiac Surgery at Bonn University Hospital) explains step by step how such a reconstruction is carried out in a minimally invasive way and without opening the sternum. Instead of open heart surgery, a small incision of around four centimetres between two ribs is sufficient for this so-called MIC-MKR.
