  • Modern heart surgery explained simply and clearly: The aortic valve is one of four heart valves. If it is either too narrow (stenosis) or leaking (regurgitation), it may be necessary to replace the diseased heart valve with an aortic valve prosthesis. In this video, Prof Dr Farhad Bakhtiary (Director of Cardiac Surgery at Bonn University Hospital) explains step by step how such an implantation is performed in a minimally invasive procedure without opening the sternum. Instead of an open heart operation, a small incision of around four centimetres between two ribs is sufficient for the so-called MIC-AKE.
