To give you guys an idea of just how many people *died* in this episode:
Matt Mercer, who DMs the game, says that Emon's population at this time was around 365,000 people... 75-80 *thousand* people died to the onslaught of the dragons. It was just as chaotic in the campaign this show is based on.
The name Chroma Conclave comes from the fact that each dragon is a different color. A dragons color in D&D decides what it breathes. Red = Fire. Black = Acid. Green = Poison. Blue = Lightning. White = Ice.
Then you have the weird ones like the Yellow Dragons who breath salt, The Purple Dragons who breath Plasma, and the orange dragons who breath sodium…yeah, the explosive element
In dnd chromatic dragons are one with colors in their name. They are the bad dragon of dnd.
Contrary to the metallic dragon that have a metal in their names, that are good dragons.

Damn, Adorkable rolled a nat 20 on perception. Yes, the green poison dragon was missing. Her name is Raishan.
They're the Chroma Conclave because they're *Chromatic* dragons (as opposed to metallic, in regards to scale type and color)
The Blue one was Brimscythe, the Iron Storm (Lightning) (from season 1)
The White one is Vorugal, the Frigid Doom (Cold)
The Green one is Raishan, the Diseased Deciever (Poison)
The Black one is Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer (Acid)
and the Red one is Thordak, the Cinder King (Fire)
Red dragons grow the strongest in d&d when in regards to Chromatic Dragons, thus Thordak is King.
I wonder why Brimscythe was so much weaker than the other ones... they weren't able to find an ancient blue dragon, so they went with what they had? LOL.
@@emmanuel1337 Brimscythe is young compared to the others. He's in middle of the growing up age before becoming an ancient like others. What Vox machina fought in ss1 was basically the intern of the group.
@@huyle-ob8rg Yeah, I get that he wasn't even an adult, but my point is that there could still be an ancient blue dragon in the Chroma Conclave and they could've made Brim into an underling that answered to them in hopes of getting up there. Is there some sort of rule where they can only have one of each color? And if so, did they just never found an ancient one and thus had to make due with Brimscythe? There are unanswered quesions here that I personally would like to be cleared up just to enrich the worldbuilding, but it is what it is...
@@emmanuel1337 If you don't mind speculation, I think they specifically chose him as a young adult. Blue dragons are notoriously crafty in d&d. They like to enslave and dominate specifically. So I think an ancient blue would've caused issues with Thordak's absolute rule in this circumstance, like moving to dethrone him and backstabbing the others for power. Pure speculation though.
@@jackfrost7543 in a lot of the fiction of DnD, Blues' also have a streak of honor, more so than other chromatics. I could see that getting real on the nerves of the others, if he had the weight to throw around.
In D&D, there are 15 breeds of dragons. These breeds are sorted into three groups: Metallic, Gem, and Chromatic. Each group generally falls into the same morality, with metallic being good, gem being neutral, and chromatic being evil. The five breeds of chromatic dragons are blue, which breathes lightning; white, ice; green, poison; black, who not only spew acid, but are also considered the most evil (so good call, catching that the one who flew off last at the end is the one most likely to be plotting some Starscream shit); and red, who breathes fire and are considered the most powerful of the dragon breeds.
Also, whether or not killing Brymscythe in season 1 accelerated their plans is currently unclear, but the Chroma Conclave was going to do this eventually. Brymscythe destroying Emon’s army like he did was definitely the opening stages of this attack.
Huh, I never heard of Gem dragons.
In some supplemental materials, I did however come across a few more unique ones, from Mithril, to Star/Space and Void dragons, to Paper and Beer dragons(drakes?), and countless lesser "drakes" in between.
@@johnyshadow Gem dragons are a fairly new addition to the 5e thanks to the Fizban.
Technically Thordak was planning to body Brinscythe anyway when he got to Emon because Brim was planning to keep out for himself.
@@NothingKingKN Gem Dragons were introduced in 3rd edition and were very popular for a time. A good number of the most powerful canonical dragons are gem dragons. Fizbans reintroduced them and streamlined a few of the even older dragons that date back to the AD&D days.

Vox Machina is Back ! along with the Chroma Conclave which includes:
-- Thordak a Red Dragon voiced by Lance Reddick
-- Raishan a Green Dragon voiced by Cree Summer
-- Umbrasyl a Black Dragon voiced by Matthew Mercer (who also voiced the others in the Critical Role D&D campaign)
-- Vorugal a White Dragon voiced by Liam O'Brien
-- Brimscythe a Blue Dragon voiced by David Tennant
I freaking KNEW I recognized Raishan's voice!
She seems to really be the go-to for voicing women of color, especially when that color is green.
I do find it funny that the reason Liam ended up voicing Vorugal is because the cast would often record scratch/filler voice-overs before they get actual actors, but Liam just did such a good job that the kept it

Critical Role just signed a huge multi-year deal with Amazon and just announced The Mighty Nein(critical role's second campaign and my personal favorite) is also getting an animated series! Titmouse(the studio who is doing legend of vox machina) is cited as an Execitive Producer so they're most likely going to be handling that series as well! Same players, but different characters in the same world of Exandria!!!
It was such a surprise, i thought we will have to wait for Vox Machina to end before we might hear something about the 2nd Campaign. Vox Machina is cool, but the Mighty Nein is my favorite by far, really hyped about it!
@@rsick266 i like'm for different things. There's a LOT more magic and theory of things and lore and history in the second campaign, but it's very weak on dragons. Which is something I always rate every fiction i consume: Does it have dragons, and how cool are they?
This was definitely one of my favorite dragon scenes that I have ever watched. Their power made as impressive as it should be.
Great reaction guys. The power difference between these dragons and the blue is evident. In season one the blue dragon fell for Scanlan's illusion, but the ice dragon saw past it with ease.
It is a ability they have called Truesight, they can see thru illusions.

the reason for the name "Chroma Conclave" is due to the group of dragons that makes up the group being Chromatic dragons, based on the colours of their scales
Red/Fire, Black/Acid, Green/Poison, White/Ice and Blue/Lightning, these are typically evil dragons, there's another group of dragons in the world called Metallic which are named after metals, Gold, Bronze, Copper, Silver, that are typically good by nature and many get somewhat involved in mortal society.
Campaigns usually have multiple adventures if they are long term. Vox Machina was a long campaign Critical Role did. The ending of Season one foreshadowed this season.
The first dragon they fought was a young adult dragon, these are ancient dragons. And they are far more stronger then the first. Kind of like a wolf too a hippocampus.

Obviously they would air The Mighty Nein after Vox Machina, otherwise it would be too much work to make both series at the same time.
They could also alternate between VM and MN.
@@jled787 I agree. I think it’s gonna be after Vox but not for the reasons you listed. That’s kinda ridiculous to think studios only work on one project at a time, same for the VAs and writers. It’s gonna air after VM ends cuz Vox is gonna be about 5 seasons. If production on MN is the same as VM it’s gonna be about 3ish years before we get that. That said, I think there is a chance that we get the last season of VM and the first season of MN in the same year.

I’ve seen a lot of people ask why the dragons demand people’s servitude but they wipe out the city anyway. You gotta realize they don’t need the whole city to survive, they don’t even need half the city to survive. Literally all they need is a tiny handful of survivors who are so terrified of them that they’ll pick through the wreckage and bring them every scrap of treasure.

Yeah. D&D dragons are on a whole different level. To be fair, they aren't quite THIS powerful.... Usually.
But they are extremely powerful and they combine that overwhelming power with a 1,500+ year lifespan, insatiable greed and ambition, Incredible magical abilities, and god level intellect. They make plans that take centuries to come to fruition and shape the course of history to suit their whims.

Fun fact, most of the dragons that breath or control other elements like ice, poison, and lightning come from Norse and Celtic mythology and the stories that they come from are just as old if not older than the stories of fire breathing dragons which to be fair are the most common type and appear in way more myths so it's easy to think the others were made up way later for games, shows, and movies.
There are 10 main kinds of dragon in D&D:
The Good - Aligned Metallic Dragons:
Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper and Brass.
And the Evil - Aligned Chromatic Dragons:
White, Red, Green, Blue and Black.
Each has a defferent Breath Weapon and covets a different type of treasure.
Since none of them are shooting lighting, I'm guessing the Blue they killed last season was the runt of this pack.
There's also the gem dragons, which represent the neutral alignment, but they aren't as prevalent as the other 2 categories

Chromatic = relating to, or produced by color
Conclave (not clave) = A gathering of a group or association
Named after the fact that they are an alliance of Chromatic dragons. The chromatic dragons in D&D are the "evil" red, blue, green, black, and white dragons.
On the opposite side of the spectrum are the "good" metallic dragons of gold, silver, copper, bronze, and brass.
Yo they just announced the sequel series has gone into production (The Mighty Nein), so they might do two more seasons of Vox Machina and then they'll launch into the second campaign.

Chroma Comclave comes from Chromatic Dragons. In D&D the 2 most common distinctions between Dragons are Chromatic vs Metallic. Chromatic are evil and Metallic are good (generally speaking). There are also Gem Dragons, but they aren't used too often.
Regardless, all Ancient Dragons are the pinnacle of power for their species and have Truesight which allows them to see through invisibility and illusions.

Chroma Conclave, Chroma because they are chromatic dragons (different colors) unlike metallic dragons (which are good), Conclave is a term that comes from Latin and means "locked with a key" and refers to the meeting of bishops who elect the Pope , who are locked in a room until they reach a verdict.
Real? These are Dungeons and Dragons version of Dragons and are based on our folklore. These are the real dragons of Fantasy along with Smaug. Highly intelligent, Old (thousands of years old), spell casting, really tough to hurt, each color dragon had a different breath weapon these four are Green-Poison, Red-Fire, White-Ice, and Black-Acid. The blue that was killed in the 1st season episode 2 was a Blue-Lightning. He was an Adult dragon. These four are all ancient dragons. With dragons the older you get the more powerful they are. These are hyper intelligent egomaniacal beings.
Green dragons in lore are known schemers and manipulators. They aren't as strong as red dragons but they are good at creating traps and springing surprise attacks. If you plan on an agreement with one, ensure you have a plan for when it will betray you.

These aren't ordinary dragons. In dnd they are referred to as elder dragons. These are dragons who are intelligent n can use magic. Not only that but they are immune to most minor magical attacks. It takes a high class artifact or magical strength n physical endurance to defeat one.

There is no way they will turn on the fire dragon unless all the 3 others are on board since he is by default bigger AKA older and more powerful 2x over than any 1 of them

Do find it funny that Gilmore had a Dragonlance (from the campaign setting of the same name) in his shop as a reference during season one, but then the crew realized that thing needs to go or it ruins this entire story arc.

FYI- For us true fantasy fans. True Dragons have 2 legs, 2 Arms, 2 wings. If you look at Game of Thrones dragons they don’t have 2 arms and they seem to have animal intelligence. So we call Game of Thrones dragons Wyverns.
