Wacken Open Air Reaction: 10 Things I wish I knew

Today we jump into the mosh pit! This summer I went to Wacken Open Air, the biggest and most famous heavy metal music festival! In this video we will go over ten things that, as a first timer, helped me have the best festival experience possible! Heavy metal is just as meaningful to me as travel, so a trip to the Wacken "Holy Land" was full of new experiences. This is a list of things that I would either do next time or do again. This is by no means a comprehensive list to all the "Must do's" of going to Wacken Open Air. This list includes answers to questions about Wacken like "Do I need to bring a tent?" "What food do you eat at Wacken?" "How many stages?" "Where is the best place to buy band and Wacken merch?" and "How do I keep my valuables safe?". ALll very important things when you live in a huge party of 85,000 crazy metalheads for 4 days!

2022 was my first time at Wacken, and I had an AMAZING time!! I'm going again this year, and I can't wait.

I have been to Wacken in '09, 10, 11... 19 ... [Corona break] ... So we see us 23 again!

It's super fun! It's super big too. Legitimately, Everyone is super nice too. Take a mask if it's dry and mud boots if it's wet! And mosh for me ;)
Big respect for everyone who is traveling to Wacken with just Bags on you.
I´m traveling to Wacken for about 12 Years and over the years we Improved our Equipment a lot.
We have to drive with min. two Cars to get our Stuff with us. Through our accumulated experience of the Years, we´re equipped for every Weather, Wacken: Rain or Shine.
And yet every year we find something that we miss and take with us next time.
I can't even imagine what it's like to only be equipped with the bare essentials there.
So my highest respect for everyone who takes on this and being able to experience Wacken for themselves. IT IS WORTH IT!
And for everyone who comes to wacken this year, take waterproof equipment with you. It's getting wet and seems to be another edition of "Wacken Mudfighters".
You're the person to make friends with! That's so cool. Very jealous! Idk what I would have done if it was rainy and muddy... I woulda been VASTLY illprepared! Next time I go, I'll see if I can find your camp ;)
I've been to wacken 7 times first time 2007 ...last time in 2015....you forgot one thing .... when it rains ...the mud can be over a foot deep .. Wellington rubber boots is a must .. also the toilets and showers... the showers have a queue of about 1 hour long .. the toilets are hit and miss ..some clean some disgusting...
Yea, I DEFINITELY got lucky with missing the rain and mud. I actually had a pretty quick experience with the shower lines but I am sure that changes greatly depending on location and time of day

Of course, it was a fun one to make! Glad you enjoyed it. I will take the dust over the other Wacken extreme. Some years it rains the whole time and they have a TON of mud! Haha

Next time do it like i do, Arrive on Sunday Night/Monday morning :D we do it every year, The latest time we arrived was 2016 monday around 12 midday. 3.5 hours of Traffic Jam and one of the worst campgrounds from the Walking Distance. :D Til 2018 i always was on Campground C, this was where the Giant plaza is now.
That would be fun! The whole week of chaos! Haha
Unfortunately for those travelling from overseas it might be a bit hard to spend the WHOLE week/trip there. But the campground vibes are so fun! I definitely could have hung around all week. Need to upgrade my camper up though... Haha
@@ChrisCreatesTheWorld yeah i can understand it is difficult from those who travel from Overseas. But it can be possible, my mate from New Zealand who do it every 2 years stays a whole week there, when he comes on Monday we already have our camp set up and then we can party together. Also this years Lineup is pretty great i say, although i miss Cannibal Corpse :D
@@Robbbbinator True true! I just know most people I talk to from the US have a hard time taking that much time off work, and would like to do more than just the festival. But Hanging at the campsite is NEVER full! Haha. The line up is soooooo good! The real Covid revenge haha.
@@ChrisCreatesTheWorld oh we mostly hang out on the campground even though the bands are playing :D Mostly we are constantly drinking there. But i wanna see soo many bands :D

The organization was terrible this year.
But still an excellent festival with an excellent atmosphere.

This was my first time, so I don't have much to compare it to other than other festivals. I DO think I got lucky and was able to side step most the difficulties... But I definitely saw some of the reasons people were complaining. It sounds like they changed a lot after the pandemic. Hopefully they learn from last year's complaints.

@@ChrisCreatesTheWorld so far i have tickets for Metalfest in Czech, Sweden Rock and Graspop, Summer Breeze and soon get ticket for Tons of Rock in Oslo and still thinking to do also Wacken and almost for sure Master of Rock in Czech. and you?
@@themetalheadsway wow! Sounds like quite the list! Definitely jealous. Unfortunately the future is uncertain for me. So for now, I don't have any. Graspop is the top of my wishlist this year though haha.
