One time a lady called me with the same bullshit about my computer and how she's calling from Microsoft, I told her "Microsoft doesn't call people" She said "Ok, hold one second" And she hung up, Again it was an Indian person. Another time man called with the same crap and I told him that I was happy that he called me again so that Interpol can properly trace where he's calling from so they know who to arrest. I never heard from him again. When you call them on their bullshit they quickly fall back.

      It's different, I was 11 and I got a legit blue screen that said your computer had a virus with a voice which for that time I was home alone made it rlly scary. I couldn't click off of it. So restarted it my computer and it was fine. Luckily I never called the number. I wasn't doing anything bad on the computer I was doing research for a project for school.

    So you filled up your 5:21 minutes with blather without telling people what to do when one of those pop-ups occur. Thanks for NOTHING! SO I WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO: IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SWITCH, not the computer shut down, that is too slow. Shutting down from the POWER SWITCH breaks your internet connection immediately and prevents the virus from actually downloading. Then restart your computer in safe mode, hopefully it will NOT have actually infected your computer. From SAFE MODE: Run any antivirus program you have, or Malwarebytes, or Adaware, or CCLeaner just to be certain your computer is not infected. And as always, don't fall for these scams.

    Christ, I hate network news show features. They waste so much time telling you so little information. Things they could have told you: The pop-up (usually) locks your browser, and disables your ability to close or switch from the browser tab where it occurs. They also could explain how it is this takes over your browser page seemingly at random when you're navigating to a page that is not the source of the problem -- ie, where does this come from? They could explain that Microsoft and Apple NEVER communicate with their customers in this fashion. They could at least hint at the role played by anti-virus and anti-malware programs to protect you.
    When it happens to me (Windows), I go to the task manager, and start killing processes associated with the browser, one-by-one, until the infected tab is closed. Then I don't have to go through a reboot.

    • @lithiumwyvern_
      @lithiumwyvern_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WTF, do you use Chrome that you need to close multiple processes? Firefox master race. We need to only close one process to close everything.

    • @acario100
      @acario100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The guy is exaggerating. You never have to go as far as what he did. Hell, with chrome, the browser doesn't even permanently lock.

    We should make sure kids are educated on internet scammers right when we know they have started using the internet. I remember when I was a kid, kids were taught about cyberbullying, and about how to stay safe on the internet, but I don't remember ever being taught about internet scammers.
    If I had been taught about internet scammers, not only would I have known how to avoid them, but I would have wanted to educate others, so they would know about this stuff too.

    No offense to the girl at the start, but who just gives your login information or password to a person who you don’t even have proof is actually working for Microsoft/Apple. My Lenvo laptop had the exact same message. I’m not gonna lie it caught me off guard, but I didn’t immediately call the number the pop up told me to call. I went to my files and looked for any malicious files and I deleted the sketchy ones. I reseted my laptop and the pop ups stopped. I even took a step further and used my northern security to check my laptop and clean out any viruses. It’s not that hard to tell a virus over a real message. But I do understand if they’re old and don’t really understand how viruses work. But other than that there shouldn’t be any other reason you can fall for this trick.

    Dude thank you so much I fell for one of these I clicked on a website I don’t know what it was and it made my heart beat at 300mph, it said 2 damaging viruses had been found in my phone and it looked really legit so I started panicking (I have an iPhone XS Max so the Bluetooth symbol doesn’t show up) so I was being really scared so I’m end into a voice message my dad sent me and it started lagging out and thought it wasn’t lying but then when I played it after 3 times the screen didn’t go black (because sometimes if I try playing a video on WhatsApp or a voice message it will lag out and turn my screen black for a second).

    If you fall for this you deserve to be scammed. Basic internet knowledge. I think in schools kids should be taught about this stuff in depth. Its better to be paranoid about everything on the internet than be too lenient. People underestimate the power of having internet access. A few keystrokes and you can land yourself in the shitter. I learnt that a lot of stuff is barely legit. If any of this stuff pops up for you, a word of advice is to do some troubleshooting, try closing the page, then go on to ALT+F4, move on to CTRL+ALT+DELETE to access your task manager, crash your web browser through that, if none of this works which is very unlikely just turn off your computer.

    The only way to know if there is an issue with a computer is by running a security type scanner software locally on the computer, or if the user sees some events on their computer that is not normal behaviour. No web site can determine if your computer has a virus or a malicious software from visiting it.
    The only way a virus or malicious software can get in to your computer is if you open a malicious link on a web page that installs a software in to your computer, or if you download and install a software that has malicious coding in it, or if you open an email attachment that is malicious.

Or No. Work around it with something like "I am the person who uses the device" and the reason you dont say "yes" is because they can record ur voice and then call ur bank and when u tell bank u wanna transfer money and you will have a recording. So when they ask: yOu sure? They can use the record and make it your voice saying "Yes" also i know this cuz this exact thing happend to my mom.. But she avoided it like i said to

    • @lithiumwyvern_

      Ryan Toomey Due to how Unix-likes and, more specifically, OS X works, Macs get barely any viruses... in the literal sense of the term (malicious code that attaches to executables and spreads, like good old CIH). However, they do get a lot of malware - just not as much as Windows does, only because they're far less popular. Trojans, worms, spyware/adware? All of that is there. And OS X is not low on the current big malware genre, ransomware. Even a well-known BitTorrent client for OS X, Transmission, got hijacked and combined with the KeRanger ransomware once!

    • @jonothan9073

      +JustGlach Also, the main reason why Linux users tend to get less malware is because Linux users are tech-savvier on average and know better than to run random binaries or add random private repositories from the Internet. Also, they don't run around logged in as root, unlike what the average Windows setup looks like. One simple way to secure a Windows PC is to make a separate password-protected admin account and log in through a non-admin account, so launching elevated programs works like su. However, Linux is the prime target for server-focused malware, as it runs the vast majority of the world's web servers.

    Hello, Jim Sadly I fell for this scam and gave them a credit card. My red flags didn't go off until late. I immediately called Microsoft and they told me to shut down my computer because they had control. I also called the credit card company and canceled the card before any transaction cleared. Today I received a call from them stating they are going to suit me for not owning up to the contract. Any advice? Help

      Mac users. A Windows user doesn't fall for it. A Linux user has no way on Earth of being affected negatively. A prepared user of either brings out the VM and VoIP, then gets scambaity.
